It's because this was in the early 2000's when he was in much better general health. It's a shame that most interviews that seem to get around are the later ones where his memory is failing or almost gone and is being interviewed by people that are apparently terrified of him and ask him rigid questions awkwardly. Therefore, a lot of people seem to hate him based on those clips. I've never met the man, and obviously he was always a gruff son of a bitch with no time for bullshit, but I like him. Yes, I've heard the things others have said about him.
Ole Anderson was one of my favorite wrestlers. When I was young he scared the crap out of me because he was so mean but I still wanted him to win. Thanks for all the good times, Ole.

Ole is from the old school of professional wrestling where you had to be a actual tough guy to belong to the elite club of professional wrestlers. These days it's just roid-head pretty boys who can't cut a damn promo or create believable heat if their lives depended on it.
Say what you want about Ole, but he was so damned believable. Even when I knew wrestling was “entertainment”, His promos were the best and he is truly a legend and one of the best!!!

He was a tough wrestler who lived his gimmick, I think he obviously made you believe he was really like that in real life. He was just another man no worse or better!
