Can you tell me why a homeowner can't buy full size sheets of the type of plastic or fiberglass they use in shower stalls of the ones the use to surround your bathtub. They make some nice panels that you would have to cut to size yourself. I'm not talking about these kits, just the Heavy sheet that you can cut to size. Like the kind for Bath Fitters. No one want to sell these from plumbing stores. Great vive on the tubing cutters. Thanks.

I used to take cutter wheels and put a 2" long bolt that fit snug through the center hole, then tighten a nut down on it and then put the threaded end of the bolt into a drill, turn the drill on and take a small, flat ceramic sharpening stick such as one that goes into an engine cylinder hone or a brake cylinder hone etc, and gently hold it against the spinning cutter wheel at the right angle.. This is much easier, faster and won't leave flat spots or wobbles on the cutter from the constant turning by hand... If you want an extremely polished edge on the cutter just wrap a piece of fine grit emery cloth around a dowel or even a pencil and use that to polish up your cutter wheel but with a ceramic stone I've never had any drag problems.. I've never tried it with cutter wheels but I've sharpened mower blades razor sharp with old corning ware plates! Same with pocket knives, any porcelain dinner ware will put an amazing edge on a tool in a pinch... (Just another bit of interesting info for you!) If you read this post, I've been subscribed for a long time and just love your channel young lady! Keep up the good work!

Here in the UK, a home owner can spend just £6.49 for a multi material, adjustable pipe cutter that will last them for many years. A full time plumber would wear it out in weeks but it is absolutely fine for occassional use.

Many years ago I worked for the largest Tool & Die company in the US... The cutters for Rigid, General and several more tools, tap & die sets drill sets, Reamers and on and on were ALL made by this company and as a general rule MOST used the exact same steel that was tempered the exact same way for the different quality parts... But the most expensive determination of the cost of a tool was the brand name!

As a Dirt Cheap or Free Option for Stropping you can try... Balsa Wood, Folded Newspaper/Newsprint or Up-Cycled Seat Belt or Similar Nylon Strapping. All can be used in exactly the same fashion. I've spent many years Restoring, Honing & Stropping Straight Razors for Wet Shaving and have used alternate materials when Leather Strops were just too expensive or unavailable. Love this Channel and all the hard work, passion and dedication you give to your Community!! 😎👍

Cool idea, however one must always use a different piece of leather for different grit of abrasives since you can never get rid of the grit that has embedded itself. One can always go to a coarser grit this way but the opposite is not the case.
@seejanedrill
@seejanedrill Месяц назад

@cangooner
@cangooner Месяц назад
Quick strop tip from a straight razor maker, user, and restorer: You can keep your compounds separate by adding a second piece of leather on the other side of the wood to which it is mounted. That way you have a strop just for coarse compound, one for finer compound, etc. For additional grits, just make a second/third/whatever strop. Saves having to clean between grits, and will prevent persistent grit from the coarse compound being mixed in with the fine. On an unrelated note: for straight razors if you strop regularly and keep the razor honed properly, you won't need any compound on the strop at all. Just rub it occasionally with the palm of your hand. The oils in your skin will help keep it supple.

Hey! Easy on the old comment, I resemble that, and I knew the trick. A couple of things. When you're using a small item, you can use both compounds apply it half and half divided down the center line. I do this when I'm working on small blades like pocket knives. I also give the cutting wheel a shot of lithium grease when I put it back. But I do that with most of my friction loaded tools.

Sometimes when they start cutting spirals, check the wheel screw. They will wear in the spot where the cutting pressure hits the wheel and will begin to groove the wheel screw where it’s no longer square to the pipe.

Great tip as always. It's never ocurred to me to 'sharpen' the wheel when you start getting spiral cuts - but now I've seen it, I'm thinking of putting a bolt through the wheel, popping it in a cordless drill and spinning it to get it razor shaving shrp! (pointless nerdism). I'd also offer a tiny drop of oil on the spindle to keep it spinning nicely - seeings as you have it dismantled, can't do any harm! Thank you for this.

Nice tip as alwasy! well, how do you think about using a hand drill to sharp the blade? the blade's hole seems to fit M4~5 bolt, and using a set of bolt with a nut could make the blade attached to a hand drill. in this way, you could rotate the blade on a sharp stone more evenly. this wouldn't work for it?

At 2:39 after she changed the wheel the new cut STILL had marks on it... I noticed when she installed the new cutting wheel it FELL into the cutter instead of being a snug fit. The Cutter retainer sides or the retainer screw may be worn out, I'm willing to bet the cutter retainer sides are wore out allowing the cutter to shimmy sideways a little as the Pipe cutter itself is not hardened and the wheels & bearings and screw are. The other possibility is the rollers have gunk built up on them and are forcing the pipe to wobble OR she is really cranking down on that cutter tension screw to hard... Wonder if Rigid makes spacers for cutter wheels or if you have to throw that over priced pipe cutter away! Or perhaps she can make a spacer set for it out of an old feeler gauge...

Anyone who buys a Rigid tubing cutter deserves what he gets! They are not one iota any better than the "General" brand name Tubing cutters and the cutting wheels are manufactured by the same company... And last I knew the only difference between cutters was the size determined by your tubing cutter size! If you have a 2" cutter then any wheel for a 2" cutter should work. Of course I could be wrong, they could have become anal since the last time I bought cutter wheels and made them all different for different brands.... Oh and the last I knew "General" brand pipe cutters had a replacement cutter wheel screwed right into the knob on the tension screw of the pipe cutter. I've had a General pipe cutter for probably 30 years now and used it to make hundred if not thousands of cuts and it still cuts great. And it has the replacement cutting wheel in the Knob... I don't think I paid even $10 for that cutter around 30 years ago....
