Hi John what's the recovery like after this procedure? is there much damage caused to the tendon? I've been having issues the past 10 years from weight training I'm eager to get spur removed but would like some advice. Thanks Al

Hi Al, I'm in a similar situation. mine actually fractured, and I'm waiting for it to heal. However, excision seems a better option. Have you learned anything more regarding damage to the tendon from this procedure? Good luck, stay safe!

@@TK-cl1jm I've been scare mongered abit in the past by the surgeon I think they try avoid it due to cost on NHS or it may have complications, he said my arm would never be the same after detaching the tendon, my friends had his both his done, they removed a spur and bursa on one and the tennis elbow surgery on the other. I'm not 100% if the had to fully detach the tendon on his , he says they did but I'm not convinced as recovery was quicker than Ive seen . Hopefully it is the case. It looked a mess at first but it healed pretty well though he's reinjured it fighting and it's swollen again 8 weeks from the op.

@@AL-wo2iz Thanks for that. It looks like some do this with an arthroscopic procedure, which would not leave so much potentially painful scar tissue at the elbow. To my knowledge, removal of an olecranon osteophyte does NOT require detaching the tendon, as this spur is not a point of attachment for the tendon. It's basically an extra piece of bone that offers no real structural strength to your elbow. I'm in a splint for another week while they wait for it to heal, but I am seeking a second opinion after that from an orthopedic surgeon who does this sort of thing. Your situation may well be different from mine, but I think you are being misled if someone told you the tendon needs to be detached. I'll check back in next Monday or so, if you are interested in what I find out. Happy Easter!

@@TK-cl1jm thanks Todd, I had an appointment around 2 weeks ago with a surgeon, I've been waiting for 6 months for this but it got cancelled a few days before due to the corona virus. Thanks for the info and definitely interested in how you get on mate cheers, mine are bone spurs on the tricep extention there's lots of scar tissue all round I think but Ive got tennis elbow on right Arm now which is causing problems I've not been in contact with the hospital for a number of years now so im revisiting the issue.

Why remove the spur? Also, does removal have any drawbacks?
