AJ lost his spirit after his loss to Ruiz. He was the bigger man in this match, yet he tried to outbox a more skillful boxer. I can only imagine this loss will sink AJ’s confidence further.

@@screaminpman undoubtedly. In the 2nd Ruiz fight, he looked hesitant after his stoppage loss in the 1st. But this was an incredible performance by Usyk. Full credit to him.

@kiidout Obliterate is the right word. AJ simply couldn’t cope with Usyk’s skills. I mean, he did well to survive twelve rounds, but there’s no doubt that he knew he had lost.

@@thrace336 In fairness, I wasn’t. I was just being -- what I thought at the time -- realistic about Usyk’s disadvantages against someone with the size and power of Joshua. As it turns out, Usyk’s technical prowess meant Joshua never really landed a clean shot all fight, and the movement bamboozled him to the point of exhaustion and an almost TKO stoppage at the very end (saved by the early bell, I reckon). It was a class, class performance by the Ukrainian. AJ was never able to bring his height, weight, and reach advantages to the fore in order to nullify Usyk’s technical skills advantage (mainly because he isn’t as technically accomplished a boxer as his opponent, let alone another genuine heavyweight such as Tyson Fury, and got his fight strategy all wrong). Usyk would make minced meat of Wilder for much the same reason; against Fury, I think the latter wins.

@@feliscorax Hmmm…it’s a tricky one against Wilder….Sure, Usyk can box wilder’s ears off to a wide UD or stoppage….but Wilder’s got a legit one-punch knockout power and if he lands flush on Usyk, could score an immediate KO….so yeah, Usyk’s victory is not a given in that one.

@@michaelbassey1993 By that same token, no result against Wilder is a given because he only needs to land once. That said, the best chin in the business is the one that doesn’t get hit, which is why Wilder has thus far struggled against the elusiveness of Fury. Usyk is even more elusive again, so to be honest with you, I think Wilder would have no hope against him because the American quite simply lacks the technical boxing skills to keep up with him. I mean, by comparison to Wilder, AJ is no slouch in that regard -- he is technically accomplished, albeit, a wee bit robotic -- and look at how the Ukrainian managed to embarrass him in the ring with his movement, feints, and footwork. Plus, I honestly think being a smaller target with a superior ability to judge range and distance makes Usyk even harder to tag for someone like Wilder: it is one thing to thump a fat lump like Ruiz (in AJ’s case) or Fury (in Wilder’s), as there’s so much target area to aim for, and another thing entirely against someone as nimble and sly in the ring as this guy is.
