Good content just add my two cents, on bare pipe I always use two squares, one on the olet and one on the pipe. Leave a slight gap and the top to allow for the heat to draw the fitting way faster and consistent, then use a level to double check your two hole and level the fitting. In addition to a wedge it’s nice to keep a couple of 8-10” long pieces of pipe (1/2”, 3/4”, 1” diameter) with threads on one side and square cut on the other to thread in the olet and use a bit of leverage to help keep tacks from popping when only using a wedge. You can also use the square cut end of those pieces in weldolets the same size to help fit them. I also like to use a center finder to make punch marks for layout of the fitting and for reference later. Nothing wrong with what he taught though multiple ways to fit up the same fitting, good video

Question for ya, how did he build his 3/32 spacing tool out of rod? Like did he tack it together? Or do you know of somewhere that sells spacing tools. Because rather then always finding rod is like to keep a quick tool on me or in my tool setup at all times. Thanks for letting me know ahead of time to anyone.

Y’all take it easy on the guy. When I left HP he was still a helper and that was about 7 months ago. The fact he could grind the pipe without getting into it shows he’s come a long way. Lol. Demo piece or not, should do it as if it’s going into production tho. Pick up bad habits it leads to your work habits.

I don't got a center finder so for small enough pipes I use a square and a level. Just butt the square handle against the side of the pipe while the scale part is on top of the pipe. Make sure the square is level with the world and make a mark on the radius of the pipe.
@georgeellington870
@georgeellington870 5 лет назад
To your fitter, quick little tip, use your center finder, get a compass set it to the I.D. of your thread-o-let, run your compass to mark your pipe. Good job using the punch. Also use a threaded nipple and use a "torpedo level." Leave the nipple in so the welder can check his level during and post weld. Keep on learning young man. Oh, also, never pull tape from top of a raised face flange unless you take in consideration for the face of the flange, that slip on looked like a 150# so it's 1/16".
@Randall_Marsh
@Randall_Marsh 3 года назад
need to check the first pair of tacks after making the the second pair of tacks. The level isn’t exactly where you left it when you come back to it and you can correct by welding the high side of the fit up first.

How do you know that weldolet is perfectly in the centre. A centre finder or level off the side and measure in the radius is needed? Also when measuring out the foot use a square off the pipe to get an accurate measurement. Neat job but try show all this for people who have come to learn. @PROFESSOR674
@PROFESSOR674 5 лет назад
Eyeball the dimension? It doesn't have to be perfect because it's not a production piece? Thank God. How did he center his hole? And punching the outline of your hole is a waste of time, especially when you're reference line is a marker 1/2" thick. Preheating the hole on pipe that thin is unnecessary. That "c" curve on the sock-o-let is called a saddle. The "90 square" is a 2ft. framing square. And hi-lo is an industry term for internal misalignment. How can people looking for good information really benefit from this? Good initiative, bad judgment. Next time get a real pipe fitter, not someone who's been a "fitter" for no more than a year and decide to put him on your channel cuz he's your friend.
