Sublime performance of (Brenda Russell's) 'Get Here' by Oleta Adams with Courtney Pine on soprano sax from 1991 BBC Later programme. Incredibly, this was the first time that they had ever performed together!
This is the first time I've commented on a video, but this piece is exceptional and I simply cannot restrain myself. The song is great and what Ms. Adams does with it is extraordinary to say the least. Often when I listen to it, I can visualize myself sharing that carpet ride she sings of. We all get something from the music we listen to, and when I hear this song in particular, and others by Ms. Adams as well, I just sit back with a smile on my face and a dream in my heart. Great song, great music, great performance. Here I go, speechless again.
this was amazing for me to see, the bass player is my father, Andy Brown, He died of cancer about 10yrs ago, it was so cool to see him God i miss him and his amazing bass playing
Sweet Jesus! What a voice, a woman and a performance! I simply adore this song. It seems, though, that Courtney was almost an after thought. He should have come in earlier and supported her voice. Hmm. A good performance anyway. You can see all the musicians enjoying being there and contributing. That's nice.
Again and again I come to play this song if the CD isn't sitting and ready to play here at home. This is one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard! This is EVERYTHING you could want a song to be. Talk about an artist feeling every note of a song....just watch her face. She is flawless!
Jim, thanks for posting this. Courtney was fantastic on sax. Was that Oleta on piano? That was her voice but I've never seen her with short hair. She's still beautiful.
4:15 on the dime, does anyone else here a double octave on that note? Such a rich, clear voice. Reminds me of Heather Hedley (sp?) but the original!! She would've made an amazing Aida on Broadway!
I recall when she played at Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in Denver I worked artist hospitality that summer.. Everyone adored her. She is very petite and gorgeous, remarkably sweet and bright, and just a joy.
I love this, but I am getting some kind of back ground "hiss" in the audio, does anyone know if this is the the recording or a problem with my computer? (I don't seem to be getting it on other recordings.)
mano a mano They have no clue what they are looking for, so in their vortex of confusion, they ding others. This is a great rendition of this great R&B classic.
The (now) 58 Losers who chose to Dislike this song, have now gone deaf because they were Metal heads to begin with. How sad they couldn't appreciate a Classic voice and great Sax.
Absolutely Stunning performance of a wonderful, heart-warming song. I've sung this myself on a few continents... hope I did it a wee bit of justice. Where is Oleta? Bring her back!
The video and song is dedicated to Sam Stowell......in California.....I dont care how you get here, just get here if you can........my love, my life, my husband........just get here.......
Thank You Steve Harvey, My Special Love ❤️, came to me by listening 👂 by saying this song when you went to be with your Special (Marjorie), mine came to my hospital 🏥 most wonderful Special Surprise, we first met in 2022, now in 2023, show up for Rehibiltation room #213, Brandon ( travel 🧭🏥⛑ nurse), said to me that he been trying to be on my floor to be with me❣️ Brandon definitely got here for me, my very Sweet/Special/who is my friend and LOVE 💕, once against all odds, Brandon did “Get Here” anyway to ME (patient) Deborah 🥂Any way to be with each other 🙏❣️🌬💋👄💗📲
I'm on my husband's account...lol. I heard this song many years ago and found it again here on You Tube. I loved the music video, but that is nothing compared to her powerful voice. I feel better off for having listened to her sing. It's like a little secret that I keep from those who probably haven't.
My wife was a singer piano player When I would go to see her, she would play this song for me. Sadly, she passed away, and I don't have a recording of her doing it, but the memories are flooding back. How I felt when she sang it to me I was the most special person in the world during those moments! And I will always love her ❤️
This song remind me of my husband, Vernon Grant. When we met, he was living in Arizona, and I will see him at least twice in a month when I got up in the morning I would play this song. He passed away in 2015 and that song is still dear to me.
At first I though 'wow she is great but the dude is just tooting a few notes and not doing much..' after the four minute mark my jaw fell open in amazement...stunning performance by them both thx for posting
I adore her.....listened to her cd's for four years straight back in the day. I wish the sax player would not have played that first note during the beautiful phrase she was singing. He should have saved it all for after the vocal verses. Musicians have to learn to accommodate the vocalist and not compete. Great vocal from an outstanding vocalist....love her.
One of the best songs around, and her voice releases all of those inhibitions kept away. This is quite inspirational and the carpentry of every vocal and instrument is sublime! I love it! Loving the bass, didn't really realize how powerful it sounds! Song of the day!!
THIS SONG IS TRULY AMAZING I HAD CHILLS RUNNING THROUGH MY BODY AS I LISTENED THAT'S HOW U KNOW THE SONG IS THE SHIT I HADN'T HEARD IT N A WHILE & THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ON OLETA ADAMS ARE PRICELESS
I could not, and did not, listen to this for 21 years: from 1991 to 2012. Now, some 10 years after that, only the artistry remains. Oh, BTW, for the longest time I thought the lyrics were "like an ERRAND man". Silly me. 🙂
Oletas incredible vocals accompanied by the sax and bass is heavenly 😍 The bass player is incredible he's really driving the song he doesn't miss a lick
Courtney was completely wasted here. He gets a couple of notes and a lick then is relegated to fill, yet he sets the standard for all who think to follow. Oleta is her usual polished professional, she of the velvet voice.
This is Music! What good is the latest technology...headphones... glitter...and false illusions... if what is coming out of the mouths of these so called "artists" of today is nothing but mumbles that are not soothing to the ear...offend women.... others...and in short... cannot come anywhere close to this woman's gift. I've seen a lot of performers... she is gifted. Playing the piano...while singing and hitting those notes. Lets see you do it!
This song is very sophisticated ❤️ it speaks to me on a philosophical level and an emotional level. She captures the yearning in all our hearts for drama and peace we find in true love 💕 one of my all-time favorites!
The best singer of the last 20 years, yet strangely underrated. She didn't seem to push her career as much as she could have or the people behind her didn't.
I first discovered Courtney Pine in 1997-he did a KILLER "Donna Lee" on soprano...I never knew he played with Oleta....and speaking of Oleta....This was "our song" in 1992-93...I miss you Terra Jean.Always and Forever.
I wish some of the Black Minority people where I work at would listen to Oleta. Rap music against anything Women, Mothers or the White race is crap! Oleta would be welcome in my neighborhood anytime!
For some reason I always thought Oleta was much older than she is. I never was able to put a face to the voice mainly because I've never searched out her solo work much except for this great song of hers. Is there another jazz vocalist that is named Adams by chance? May be I'm thinking of someone else. *shrugs*
