That was wonderful. You make it look EASY, lol... your playing is very clean and succinct... every note, clearly heard. I came across your videos after typing "octave mandolin lessons" into the search bar... I bought a mandolin a few years ago, along with a few books of "TAB", but never quite devoted the necessary time into even understanding "TAB"... and, next thing you know... my mandolin began collecting dust, a victim of life's "busyness"... Recently though, I pulled it out, just to contemplate getting started with it in earnest (finally). Sadly though, one of the things that I noticed right away... is that my fingers actually don't fit inside the frets, and I am unable to even finger a single note "cleanly", without muting at least one of the adjacent strings. So I've had the thought that, perhaps it would be easier for me to begin with an octave mandolin, simply because the fretboard is a bit "roomier". I'm planning to purchase an octave mandolin (possibly this weekend) and hopefully, the extra space on the fretboard will make enough of a difference so that I will stick with it, and actually learn to play this time around. I've written songs (the lyrics) for most of my life, with the accompanying music remaining "locked" inside my head, with no Avenue for expression, due to the fact that I never learned to play any instrument. It frustrates me deeply that I have remained unable to share the music inside of me, for as long as I have... and once you pass a half of a century on this earth, you can't help but wonder how much time you really have left, lol... so I feel that it is high time for me to finally put in the real effort, to learn to play, so that I can express/share what is locked away inside of me. These (and many other) videos are an inspiration to "get to it", and "stick with it". Hopefully, within a year or two, I might actually be able to play a bit... but I have no idea how long it may take before I'm ready to start making any recordings of my own... but that is the goal. Thanks for uploading your videos... it helps to inspire those of us who find it a struggle, simply to get started. Don't stop... Cheers

Bob in the West Dear Bob! Thank you for your comment and your history! I really appreciate it! And it help me too, because sometimes I think why am I doing it to the emptiness? What will I get from it? 23 likes and 300 views?)) it’s fanny and silly. I just love the music. You should start by searching the sound, which vibrates from the instrument and communicates with you. I mean the separate notes. Don’t try to play fast, play like a meditation and listen to the sound. When you will play “from sound” and not “from fingers” you can play whatever you want soon.

@@OlgaEgorova_Mandolin ... Oh no... never question "why you do it... " There are over 7 billion of us in the world... there is no "emptiness"... just many people who need inspiration from "someone". And, as you say, you just "love the music"... and that will always be reason enough for "doing it". I love the music too (many types of music), and I hope that one day I can manage enough coherent, harmonious sounds in a row to call it "music", so that I can "do it" too... but so far, I don't even know any scales, lol. But I will also try your recommendation... to just sit and pluck a note at a time... and listen, trying to just "feel it" . Maybe that can work better for me than the "standard/traditional" ways of learning an instrument... (?) What has always prevented me from learning in the past is: not spending enough time with any instrument... Perhaps, if I just keep spending time with it (even if we are not making music together at first) maybe after "enough" time, the "noise" that we (my instrument and I) make can slowly transform into music? BTW... I went out and purchased my Goldtone octave mandolin... now I have no excuses for not spending time with it, lol. No matter what (you may think) others "think of" what you do... know that I appreciate you. I need all the inspiration I can find, to push myself beyond that barrier. Thank you...

@@OlgaEgorova_Mandolin ... I just rewatched "crazy Russian bluegrass", and then watched your newest video... Watching and listening to someone play (so easily), makes my eyes watery... I'm not certain if that is "me feeling the music"... Or if it is simply "my jealousy", lol. But, either way... I enjoy it each time.
