Love the shapes & the finishes, the candleholders look great. Also love the shape of that big one & I'm thinking it would be an awesome solar fountain, with a similar finish to the one you used on the candleholders.
I think I would have done the white paint differently. I would have brushed it on ( not so watered down) then using a ball of cling wrap, pounced it on the white paint to remove some of it as well as give it a funky texture. I like the idea of stacking these clay pots- water trays to create a candle holder. I will definitely try making these but I will cover mine with joint compound ( not as clumpy as yours) then layer neutral shades of paints over, using soil or coffee grounds for interest. I like an older more ancient look. Thanks so much for giving me the idea. 👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼☺️☺️☺️☺️ I will also make thin rope using paper clay and a mould for the areas where the different pots glue up. I don’t like looking at those area so a pretty paper clay rope design will cover them quite nicely.
These looked great. Having done similar myself (it’s all trial and error isn’t it?), I would def recommend investing in those one use rubber gloves, and literally get your hands on the pots when you are using a textured product. Ditch the paint brushes! I’ve done both and the gloves work much better as you have more control. And sponge brushes can give a great aged effect IMO. By the way, loved your video with the expanding foam - the mantle piece filled with moss was stunning 👏🏻. I might have to try it myself 😊🇬🇧
Thanks so much for the tips! I think I’ll definitely have to try the rubber glove idea, I can imagine it works much better. I’m glad I did the mantelpiece one, it’s an interesting concept because you could make it to any size or shape, and create something that perfectly suits an unconventional space (in my case a VERY narrow mantle!!)
@@phoebedoeseverything Well thank you too Phoebe for sharing the expanding foam ideas - I would never have thought to do that. I’m even thinking of rubbing a light layer of some ready mixed pollyfilla over the dried expanded foam to give a concrete feel to whatever I make. Love doing DIY’s like this don’t you - the ideas are endless! 😊🇬🇧
Yes it definitely still is cool, I’m just so frustrated I didn’t get to see the rust effect 😅 Mum has filled it with sand and mosquito coils, she likes it the way it is!
They turned out great. I think with a bit more patience, they would've look amazing lol im thinking these would be great for plants as well, especially the big one! Prayers and love to your Dad🙏
You could use coffee and coffee grounds in the same way you used the tea. I really like how these turned out. Best wishes for your dad for his treatment.
Oh I never thought of that but it makes sense! If you’ve seen in my other videos I drink a lot of coffee, (I made two stools using coffee pods) so love an idea of how to put some of the coffee grounds to use! Dad has started treatment and so far is doing really well 🙏🏽💕✨
@@phoebedoeseverything Actually your video was just suggested to me, so that was the first one of yours I’ve seen. I’m subscribing, too. I hope your dad does well all through his treatment. It’s a miracle that he has that perfect match.
They turned out AMAZING! Shame about the big pot but I still like it 😏 We can always count on good ol’ Bunnings to come up trumps with materials! I loved the comment “What’s happening here…in less than 30 words” 😂 Wishing Dad well with his treatment. New subscriber here, just binge watching your videos now 😉💐
I loved the candlesticks after the first application in the custom colour you and your sister mixed. The next applications of add ons made them too messy for me. I think the "copper" pot looks great, especially since you seem to never follow the instructions LOL!!!
I often struggle to know when to stop 😅 I like to make my own rules that’s for sure. I am determined to re try the copper pot again but seal the terracotta first, I think it will make a big difference
Eu acredito em milagres vi seu canL hoje pela primeira vez não percam a fé pois ela move curar incríveis desejo a seu pai muita saúda e pronta recuperação aqui de Balneário Camboriu SC Brasil 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
Omg 😳 I don’t think I did. I think that could be the reason!!!! I feel a bit stupid now but I’m grateful for you tip. I’m going to try it again when I’m back there 🙏🏽
I don't know if you have access to Dixie Bell paint products...but they have a two part product that does work. Patina paint in Iron and Patina Spray in green to create the rust.
You could've made them with paper mache. Would've been way cheaper that way. Give the main structure with paper mache and then apply a thin coat of plaster over it. It would be way easier and cheaper and you can give whatever shape you want🥰
I seen this video the other day and it would not leave my brain. So I went to Jo-Ann fabric, because it was on my way home. I found some terracotta pots and I put them together. And I'm rewatching this video because I am just so in to doing it. Love your content.TY
How cute are your videos and 1st off I'm really sorry about your daddy I'll pray! I rust alot of things up and the terracotta is not the best surface to use it on..metal plastic turns out ahhhhmmaazziingg and I'm so in love with your candleholders! Fantastic! I'm def a new subbie!!❤❤❤❤
I'm so sorry for your father, I really think you should NOT talk about this disease, not all of us are willing to listen to something like that "we all know that diseases are shit" but in my case I chose to see your project to disconnect from the harsh reality,.. and I find myself with a class on how difficult it is to find cells to cure cancer. Of course I didn't see the rest of your project! a little sensitivity is needed for the rest of the people, not all of us are willing to face this. thanks
I think you are absolutely right! I think the terracotta soaked too much paint in and it wasn’t able to do the reaction properly. I am going to try it again eventually, I really do want to see what the rust effect looks like!!!
@@phoebedoeseverything that’s the beauty of the creative process. In an effort to do something else, we accidentally create something stunning that wasn’t at all what we imagined ❤️ I really enjoy your channel! Praying your dad has good results with his treatment.
@@Holli_Sassafras you are absolutely right, and I'm always surprised with how much I love my creations regardless of what I was originally aiming for! And thank you for your prayers, dad is in remission ❤
Prayers are lifted up and Heard for your father, the crafted idems look great,I am inspired to do this project.Nice work.A fountain and pots glued together would make a marvelous fountain or herb display.
Made my day with this idea, watching this in the morning, so I am planning to go today shopping and try this idea .Thank you❤ they are looking great , I subscribed also😊
I love those candleholders!!! If the big one doesn't turn like you want, why not do to it like you did to these candleholders. It's such an awesome look and everything I see that looks similar in the stores is very expensive!! Great job ladies!!!❤
Great project. I've recently used Dulux Rust Effects on a timber door and as I was worried about getting good coverage, I probably used more of the first step product than I was supposed to - as you said, extra info is thin on the ground. My door was sealed with a white painted on primer and I was worried that the white would show through the black first step. It's the black first step that has the metal filings added into it but they're not visible to the naked eye. It's only when you paint on the second step product that the metal filings are activated to start rusting. Umm, I thought I noticed you spraying your urn when you were applying the first step of the product but I think you only do this when applying the second step of the product. You wouldn't think it should make too much of a difference but just keep your first product wetter for longer. Not sealing your terracotta may have had an effect on the end finish but you think that would be just by absorbing a lot of the first step product and maybe needing extra coats. Did you wait 12 hrs and apply a 2nd coat of step 1 product? if so, Did you then wait another 12 hrs before applying the step 2 product and spraying with water? My door has rusted nicely but being outside is continuing to rust and I've had to seal it as I was worried the rust effect would not stop developing and it would eventually rust itself away LOL. I've sealed it with 2 coats of Intergrain exterior and it's slowed it down but still continues to rust a bit. I love the Rust effects but shame it's so costly. Apparently, they have developed a specific sealer to go with this product but I was in the country and could only get the Intergrain.
I waited well over 12 hours to do the next coat. I can’t believe how little instruction there is on this product, but I do really want to try it again at some point. I might as well considering I’ve still got so much product left 😅
