You're right. Moving the around Inkscape canvas and Olive timeline use the same mouse command, and a lot of the standard keyboard shortcuts are same too.
Aloha Ryndon, Thanks so much for this series. I have never used a video editing program before and you have made it soooo easy that anyone with half a brain should be able to use this program without any problem. It's really great that you put these out here for free. Also, I appreciate you showing us all of the shortcuts. :)
This editing software is great for beginners if we master this software for around 1 year we will not have so many problems in premiere Pro rather than just heading on to it as a beginner this olive software is epic!
Man this is life changing, I literally just uploaded a video for my dress designs because videos seem to get more views on pinterest! Seriously , I fell suddenly very ill two years ago which led to divorce because I could not cope and now I need to get back on my feet again and you are helping me. So thank you soo much!

@TJ FREE Love the video. Although this may be minor when using the Razor tool, when cutting, click/cut ON THE REDLINE OF THE MEDIA CLIP, NOT the redline in the timeline!!! (learned that the hard way)! Thx again for the excellent content.
Hey there! this series has been so helpful so far, I've only been playing around with the software for a few hours now and I'm already starting to feel more comfortable trying new things! I've got a question- is there a way to merge multiple clips together? for example, if you have two individual clips with a cut between them, can you just eliminate the cut and merge the clips into one continuous clip? I hope that made sense
One of the reasons I chose Olive was because of your tutorials. I'd like to thank you very much for the way you present the ideas. When people say something is intuitive or user friendly, it often isn't and you are an exception. It is very appreciated. Things do pop up, like questions or surprises that are not covered in your videos. Is there any way to ask questions directly? 2 current examples: I can't seem to see the video in either of the top two screens. They are just black. I checked the reddit advice but it didn't help. I started to investigate on my own and hit the view option because I couldn't find settings or Preview Section in the top menu bar. Now I have lost the screens. It's probably easy to get them back, but I don't know how. I will try to watch all your videos in hope of finding a solution there. It would be handy for an accessible place to ask questions to arise and if you can direct me there, it would be also as appreciated as your very fine tutorials.

How do i insert a clip into the time-line? Not at the beginning or the end but somewhere in the middle. Of course, I can cut, select and move and insert, but it seems there should be a quicker way.
TJ: Great video. Learning a lot. Quick question: Can you join two clips into one - permanently? I think this is known as stitching. I know you can select two clips at once and move them in unison, but I am talking about joining them together such that two clips now become one. Thanks in advance for your response
Your video tutorial was nice. Very nice explanation. Downloaded olive software and installed in my PC. but video was not playing properly. playing in dead slow. in setting it is 100 percent. can u help me. Tell me any other alternative free video editing software.
Very good explanation, thanks! What is the difference between Cut(razor tool, C) and split (Edit/Split, S)? I tried both and they do the same, as far as I can tell.
Thanks, good question! I think the razor tool will cut wherever you left click in the track regardless of where the playhead is. The split function will cut or create a split only at the current location of the playhead.
Correct: that's it, thank you! I prefer the split as usually I wanne split where the playhead is, it is faster than selecting the razor and then clicking on the red line. (but the S shortcut doesnt' work on my pc, I'll have to check the kbd settings in Olive,its set correctly for S, but perhaps a double setting or a bug)
@@ugge101 I just checked on mine, s is mapped to snapping for me. Split is mapped to control + k. I think these are default settings for the version that I am using.
Great video and the Olive Playlist is tremendously helpful, thanks!.. I've a question about selecting and moving multiple clips: is there a way to quickly select all clips TO THE RIGHT of a selected clip without having to zoom out, hold shift and manually select each clip to the right on the timeline?.. As you know, holding "Shift" allows for highlighting multiple clips and separately pressing the "End" hotkey moves the play-head to the end of the timeline. Logic would tell me that selecting a clip in the middle, holding down shift and press "End" would highlight the clip itself AND all clips to the right of the selected clip; however, Olive does not work this way and I'm wondering if there's another method to do what I've described. Thanks in advance!
I edited a 2h video and when it was done exporting it didnt close on its own and i couldnt play the video. I closed it after 30min and reopened the project and before all my imports there is a red cross and they dont show in the video. How can I fix this.

Thank you for the tutorial, TJ. Question, I cut out 45 seconds of a longer minute video but the full video still plays. I cut, dragged one piece to the other and 'snapped' it to the other, but it is still playing full length as though no cut happened. What am I missing? Thank you in advance for your help!
Olive is already a better choice than iMovie. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes more powerful than Kdenlive in the future. Kdenlive has so many powerful features and capabilities, but its not as user friendly and intuitive as Olive. Working with text in Olive is so much easier than Kdenlive, for example, but Kdenlive gives much more control over text. I think Olive is a good choice for most average users, even as it is right now in Aplha.
For whatever reason when I try to play my video not only does it not show the video and I only hear the sound, but also it freezes the whole tab. do you know how to fix this?
Hi Holly. Good question. Right click on either track and select 'Link/Unlink'. Now to can select just the audio track and more and/or delete it. Hope that helps!
I'm watching your tutorial, I finished an edit, now how do i upload the file to youtube? Ii tried the saved file from olive but that didn't work, I pressed export to a folder and now it's rendering it until five hours! is there another way to just edit and save the finished product and upload it?
Good question. A good video format for uploading to RU-vid is .MP4. Depending on the video and the edits and the speed of your computer, it can take a long time to render. I usually do File > Export and make sure the format is 'MPEG-4 Video' and then set the Quality (CRF) to 18. Something like 36 will go faster but be lower quality, and lower numbers, like 1 or 0 will take longer and be higher quality.
@@TJFREE Hey Man, thank you so much for this tutorial it helped out a lot, but I have been facing a problem recently that I cannot export the file. Whenever it reaches 22% it stops. Anyway to solve this problem? Or should I just wait for it?

HollowSoul yeah I did. And that was to switch editing I use. This tutorial master ain’t nothin but no help I tried to message him repeatedly and never helped me. I went on RU-vid and downloaded a fake/ free version of premier pro and it’s works perfectly smooth. I hope this helped if it did be sure to check my channel out and subscribe!
Yes, drag the video to the timeline, Right Click > Link / Unlink. Now the audio and video tracks behave independent of each other, can each be moved, deleted, etc...
SeeBot_ Scythe I don’t think you can, I’m having the same problem, the closest you can get to fixing that is muting the audio track that goes along with your gameplay and putting different audio over it. Or if you want it to be silent just mute it.

Im sorry this literally doesn't explain how to trim.Instead of telling how to cut out a segment, you merely tell us about shortcuts. But never explain the true process. Then you say to just hit the space bar which doesn't work... OR you say select it... but don't show us how to select... I have literally wasted HOURS trying to make sense of your videos. Watched them over and over .... You are calm, and you APPEAR to be making sense. But all the while you are not actually SHOWING what to do!
That's just plain rude. He is putting these out for free. At a minimum you should thank him. If you can't follow along with his simple tutorials, you should just go somewhere else.
