Kevin Emailed about his Olives in Humid Thailand.
How to care for Olives.
Most important, try to emulate the conditions we know they thrive in.
They thrive in the Mediterranean and South Africa where they enjoy, heat, light, dry air, really good drainage, parched infertile earth, dry spells between rain, wind for pollination, summer seasons which are separated by cold seasons.
They do not enjoy, humid still air, being too tightly pruned, low light, constant cool, overwatering, highly fertile soil.
For fruit they need to go through a cold spell I explain more in this video: • How to get OLIVES on y...
Do prune to light light and ventilation into the plant but remember that for fruit it needs some of last years branches so prune selectively, An open vase shape encourages fruiting.

It might sound hard to believe but folks in Thailand have been importing huge olive trees for a few years. We mostly use them for landscaping work since their trunks are massive and beautiful. It’s hard to expect them to even flower as our average temperature is 28C, and it could get up to 40+C during summer. The most favorite variety here is Hojiblanca, from Spain, because it has silver-ish leafs, which is hard to find on our native plants. I bought 2 huge olives from the importer as well, can’t resist its beauty. The rainy season and humidity here can be problematic here as you mention, I need to take extra care like adding trichoderma every week just to help olives fight with fungus and root rot. I found out that the bigger trunk is more resistant to extreme humidity here, they even like it judging from new growths at the top of the tree. Love your channel as you often bring tips&tricks on how to care for olive trees, keep it up mate. Cheers.

Just to let you know went to b&m today, they have fairly large olive trees for £100. Obviously not as big as the 3 you've just bought but a reasonable size

Hi Mark I live pretty local to you, Warrington.I have, or should say had, a lovely olive tree we bought for several £100 and it’s looking grip. We don’t water it, it’s in a raised bed, so shouldn’t be water logged. We have had enough rain to keep it wet. I’m desperate to ensure it doesn’t die he wondered if you can offer any advice?

The trunks are huge on your newly purchased olive trees. How old do you estimate they are?

Hi. Mark, sorry to bother you but my Olive tree is still in the black plastic pot that it came in. Ive noticed that the pot is spitting. What pot would you suggest and also its starting to shed afew leaves. Is this ok or not. I have kept it ventilated and do feed it with Olive feed. Thankyou 🫒🫒🫒

Over and under watering will trigger leaf loss.. purchase a moisture meter £10ish and worth every penny. I’d also buy a slightly larger pot than you have and place it in there, terracotta is best…
