@@dmac3183yeah, unless you can grow your own. We grew up out in a small town of 58 citizens, had a one acre garden and fed a family of 9 out of it. The only thing we bought from the store was salt, sugar, coffee, spices, and flour. Traded with our neighbors for meat, milk, and cheese. Even dirt poor, we survived on what we made ourselves. More Americans should do this, we would be a lot healthier.

The welfare lyrics was a example of a metaphor for people who are lazy that are able to work but choose not to, and stay on the government funds, when there are people that actually need it. It is not against people who fall on hard times and need it temporarily, nor people that have a disability, nor those that are mentally ill, nor elderly people that can't take care of themselves anymore.

No, that's not what he is saying. He is pointing out that there are two kinds of victims/deaths: thoes that are dying by starvation and thoes that are dying by eating themselves to death because of depression caused by how the gov. keeps kicking them down (or e.g. alcohol "Drag back home and drown my troubles away" as he said at the beginning). So even though you mange to have little more than thoes in the street, you still end up dead. "Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat / And the obese milkin' welfare. Way back in the ‘80’s, my best friend’s husband who was a carpenter, got in a car accident & wasn’t able to work for awhile, due from recovering from his injuries. They had three kids & she was working part-time at the kindergarten down the street. She went to apply for food stamps, & the government said that they didn’t qualify. That was a shocker to me. When this man was able to work, they took money from his pay check to give to ppl who were able to work (taking care of children that wasn’t his nor knew). But when they were in need, & just needed a little temporary help, the government slammed the door in their face. Now, that’s a bitch!

You have to think about the line about 5 foot three and 300 pounds along with the line right before it where he says there’s people in the streets with nothing to eat. Then on the other hand you have people laying on welfare sitting at the house eating bonbons all day as the taxpayers pay for it. Then they become sick from eating bad food which puts them in the medical system for the rest of their lives which the taxpayers also pay for. It’s not so much a hit on the people as it is the system being so flawed.

I totally agree. It is also the choices that an individual makes when going to the grocery store. Groceries should be affordable on all levels since it is a necessity. Don't tell people that they must eat healthy but all of the healthy choices are too expensive to purchase. A family of four can barely make it off of assistance with two parents working and doing the right thing to provide for their family.

If you're 300 pounds, it's not an issue of "you not having enough to eat right", YOU EAT TO MUCH. So that line in the song is correct! Even I as a swede can see that what's the problem with many americans. If they stop shoving sugar (and fructose etc) in their mouths, the weight will drop off! They need to eat LCHF (low carb high fat)/Paleo, instead of that carb/sugar-based things they choose.

There are always outliers, with genetic exceptions but you're wrong, the absolute vast majority get a steady blood sugar-level, as well as weight loss by eating what I mentioned. And yes they "need" that to become healthier, not die early and also to reduce the cost on the society! I grew up in section 8 housing. Y'all know as well as I do they sell for .50¢ on the dollar. EBT cards don't feed the needy. Churches and Food banks do that.

He was saying that it doesn’t matter what your situation is, welfare and taxes should not pay for junk food. If anything, it should incentivize buying healthier food.

I see what your saying about $900 and paying bills. He means tax dollars should not be paying people to over eat and other people, like Vets, are hungry and in streets. Yeah not saying medical conditions or a people who really need etc. Well that's what I got from it anyway.

I agree about the food business. They want you to eat right. But food that is good for you is high. The people in Government can afford to pay more for food.
