I'm a Black man from New York and I feel your music especially Rich Man... I salute your truth brother. We as Americans need to come together, stop the race card and set this country right! We the ppl are the backbone of this great nation!
@@jacobsawley98I'm assuming you don't know how music videos are made. They're not recorded on site of the music video. They record in a studio for the best audio quality and then sync with the audio for the music video. Pretty much everyone who has made a music video ever had done this, it's not like lip syncing on stage.
As a 68 year old man who grew up listening to country with my dad. I just want to say THANK YOU. It's feels good listening to music that was written to touch the soul .
There are literally thousands of guys doing this....... just because the internet jammed one idiot in your face doesn't make him different.... grow the fuck up
speaking from knowing the music industry..... they only want money. NONE OF THEM HAVE PURE INTENTIONS. I dont care how much they preach that theyre on our side or olivers. give him a contract and let him keep ALL THE PROCEEDS. Then youll know whos real
@jasonalzuto1794 nah he asked kindly, give it a listen, it's not bad at all. When you have a passion for something and a dream you want to be heard. Oliver is getting his, we here listening to it and here is another man chasing his dream, not hard to click and give it a listen my guy. Think if it were you. Hope you have a great day
SW VA representing!! Listen to this kind of music and it really sings to your soul. SW VA is laid back and super friendly. Just to let people know, we don't take no WOKE here!
Being born and raised in Virginia, I salute you. God Bless. I no longer reside there, but it will always be home. (Always preserve. It's only right.)@@carolhandy3664
Oliver Anthony heats up the blood of redemption boiling in the veins of Americans everywhere today! Thank God we can still be heard. Thank you Oliver Anthony! ❤🇺🇸😘
@@andymontgomery9330 Thank you! I am a writer and I tell you Mr. Anthony’s song and soul resonated deeply with me this morning and obviously many others.
I can’t believe this guy has just been singing songs in the forest with his dog going unnoticed by the world for so long. Dude has a world class voice and sings with a lot of soul.
I grew up in Powhatan Virginia, and my mom always had a crowd over picking and making some amazing music when I was growing up!! My mom played /picked the hell on a 4 string banjo! I'd play mandolin and would sing she'll be coming around the mountains when she comes! 🎶 with the whoever would come over to jam with my mom! I know the slices of heaven that Virginia is. I feel like Oliver is my neighbor and like-minded friend! ❤️and I'm so proud of him. I know God will keep him humble and protected! 🙏❤ There is a whole lot of soil in country Virginia for sure! 😊
@EL-em3mn I was referring to the first mention in the song at 0:41. And yeah, there are other songs about Virgina, of course, I’m just fond of the line.
I believe his style is Appalachian , that being said it's all the same in our hearts . It's the sound of the struggle of everyday people , & from the soul . Something everyone can understand regardless of the music you prefer or the color of your skin or nationality . I pray to Jesus he doesn't take him home too soon like he did with Stevie ray .
@@davidwashburn5848 He has said before, that he can't take credit for that sound. Though, I also feel the Appalachian style to his music. I've listened to many of his songs. Appalachian, at least the Virginia Appalachian area, is not too far from him, but he is not from there. Obviously, the Appalachian area varies greatly because it goes much further North and South of Virginia. I hear the folky, Appalachian, and original type country....where it really all started in America, in his music for sure. Simple, from the heart, authentic, and a bit twangy. Not that 'Western' or honky tonk southwest sound. He's great. Hits the soul for sure!
Just as my friend says, today songs are about drugs, cash and (usually casual) sex. xD He IS a fan of rap and hip hop but it can be heard in the pop genre as well. It permeates the whole industry. Sadly an industry, long gone are the days when music was an art. You can take movie or game music as a work of art, but all the pop, rock and other genres are mass-produced garbage nowadays. Independent music is salvageable, but when someone's contracted to a production studio more often than not it's SHIT.
@@johnlebzelter4208 EVER BEEN CALLED OUT ON FRAUD ? LISTEN TO TYLER CHILDERS Kentucky born artist on charts for years ... this guy Oliver Anthony should get called out ! Seems like I heard his entire song before with diffrent lyrics .....and it ain't him singing brother lol
When I was a young girl, I visited my grandpa's hometown of Blackwater, Virginia. Virginia is always singing to me since that day. And y'all don't know the beauty of Virginia unless you've been in the Appalachian mountains.
Oliver is a "classic car barn find" for some of us. There are truly gifted singers out there that haven't been found by the masses. Glad he was given the limelight he deserves.
Because the masses don't want to think or truly feel anything. They want to be numb, so mainstream music gives them 2 inch deep songs and a catchy, meaningless chorus.
Also South African in Oxford England. Keep it raw buddy! I can feel the raw honest truth in your songs. Whatever you do don’t sell your self to the devil.
A million views in 3 days. Just shows how badly we need real music with a message these days. Thank you for your artistic contribution to a crumbling society. Makes the pain a little more bearable.
Remain yourself and don’t let them corrupt you brother. Your music is what most of us feel inside but can’t express it. Thanks for telling all our stories.
Oliver has his own RU-vid channel named Oliver Anthony. Everyone should go and blow his channel up with some love. What an amazing gift to be able to reach everyday Americans using musical talent like his. Not all musicians have this gift that he has. Truly remarkable.
This is what making culture looks like! And he did it on his own, without a record label creating work for him and boosting him on all the radio stations. God bless him! ❤🙏
I don't think he did it all on his own. People don't buy digital music anymore and he's number 1 one on iTunes. A common technique used for plants. Not to mention the overwhelming support for right wing media.
@@thomascolbert2687 It isn't jealousy brother. Its just simply not possibly not possible to achieve that kind of reverb naturally. That being said, the musicianship Oliver has is still incredible regardless if these videos are live or not.
Don’t ever get in the way of a country man with a dream. I was born in Kentucky and raised in Virginia. I’m a proud coal miner/baptist preacher’s daughter ❤❤
Watched my daddy work, sweat and bleed for the man for 50 years now I’m 22 years deep. I played this and cried. My the Lord bless you all the days of your life!
As good as rich men north of Richmond is, it’s not even his best. I’m so glad I have been introduced to this man’s music. When I say I like country music, this is what I mean
Though being European this hits me hard. I know it were guys like this who liberated my parents in Holland. That healthy, courageous, inventive, righteous vein running through the USA, once being its main river. I'm grateful for people like that.
Thank you for commenting. Many of us in the USA feel this way but remain silent for fear of being conservative or racist. It's the lefts way of keeping us down.
@@mrh4900 Hey South Carolina, thanks for your great grand dad. Until the day they died in the 1990s, my parents and whole family have been grateful and adored Americans. It was almost as if American = tall, handsome, strong, courageous, righteous, inventive, clever, humble and all other qualities under the sun. They would definitely have wanted to know everything about your great grand dad.
Dear Stranger , i love how you've made a impact with so many folks alike. I personally love this song the most. I am Proud 12th Generation Virginian and this track just feels good ! Much Love and Respect, Brother! Stay True and Always stay with the Light!
This man's voice and words give me goosebumps. I can smell the chicken and salmon patties cookin in great granny's kitchen after church and hear my mom call us all in to eat while my cousins and uncles laugh and pick music on the porch. It's memories of the good 'ol days that Oliver brings back. 😊🌾🌻

So glad to hear Ole Virginny being sung about again ❤️ were a beautiful commonwealth captured by the damn feds. we’re down in the colonial farmland out by Hampton Roads ❤️

I like me some slow, simmered stew!!! The BEST stuff comes from waiting! You can smell it & think about tasting it... but nothing compares to having to wait, until that moment of piping hot stew touching your tastebuds causing your entire body to savor the moment! Yes. I will love a good simmer waiting for Oliver's next song!
Stirring up the soul of this 71-year-old used to be folk singer. I was the coffee house variety in rural Arkansas. Keep it up my friend as you got it where it counts, in your soul.
I don't think anybody but the bots, crooks, commies n the fascists are hating on this! True Americans feel what he's singing and it's beautifully bringing us all together as one, something these evil demons are always trying so,so hard to tear apart! ❤️🤍💙
This song is beautifully poignant. I have very fond memories of living in VA. You’re lucky if you still live there and fortunate if you’ve at least visited. It’s absolutely beautiful. I’m glad he wrote this song because it touches even a non native who has a deep love for this gem of a state❤
I absolutely Love this man!! As a 47 year old Floridian, I identify with this Completely! My family came from West Virginia and this music brings out emotions I cannot explain.
His message is spot on! I grew up in northeastern rust belt Ohio and the few songs I've heard have hit me like a hard gut punch. I actually live in the DC metro area now but I'm a private sector schmuck, one of the few who has a job not tied to the federal govt in any way, shape, or form. For those who don't live here, let me tell you, it's not just the politicians who are clueless - it's also everyone in this area with a gov't job, either working for the feds or as contractors. They have no idea how the rest of the country works. Oliver Anthony's songs are just the start of the wake-up call that DC needs.
This man’s an old soul from the Appalachian mountains down the railroads with the miners. I love it. This is real folk country music from Appalachia🌺💕🌸
@@kadefreeman4928he didn’t say “instead” he said “not just”. Meaning he wishes they cared about *all* children and not just the ones on Epstein Island and the like.
As a Virginian, I have memories of myself & my husband riding in his truck in the country going to the little white shack we’d camp out in by the river. We chose the countryside as our home. This hits my heart hard!
if you are honest you will look into how and why the modern conservative movement was created. For starters look up the Powell Memorandum, Origins of the Overclass, The Big Myth by Naomi Oreskes and Birchers. Instead you criticize the Left who is all about getting things done for average Americans and not the wealthy elite conservative overclass.
Oliver has got to have the most authentic writing, voice and emotion that I have seen in music in over a decade. I can't wait for the day that I'm able to see this man play in person, you're doin great bud.
Damn, brother… you put me right back in the ozarks with this one. I was driving down a dirt road I haven’t seen in ten years with my father, who’s been gone for five years. The good LORD has blessed you with a rare talent. Thank you for sharing it. 🌸🌺III🌺🌸
Pure backgrounds that makes you really appreciate his art it comes from a pure place he’s singing from . Rich men of Richmond and his others bring me to tears..
Thanks for this brother. Amazing, REAL country music and absolute star and a voice for the voiceless . Support this man folks, let’s get his music heard.
I'd say he's more folk than country- but I don't know jack about music genres but I do know I love folk and bluegrass- but can't have an intelligent discussion about either- I just love it when I hear it. Hey Oliver- there's a big Bluegrass festival on Manteo Island in OBX- 3 days staring October 19th- I'm going and would love to see you there and I'm sure the producers would as well.
I want a stereo that I can crank this up until my eardrums bleed. Thank god for folks like you, Oliver. Singing about what we almost all feel like. Beautiful. I’m a forever supporter from now on.
Got this country boy tearing up. This is authenticity my soul needed. And I thought real country was dead. Hank Williams would tap his boots listening to that
Beautifully captures the ethos of rural VA. Reminds me of pulling tobacco with my brothers, Dad, and Papa. Made me tear up. Can never leave VA because she really will sing to you.
Couldn't agree more, after living my first 20 years on the Gulf Coast I moved to Lynchburg, VA and after living there 5 years and getting married we moved to beautiful city Palmyra/Charlottesville. 5 years there and 2 baby boys later, we decided to move back to the coast but.. we hear Virginia calling us back home. When I die, I want to be in Virginia.
