Hey guys! We will explain exactly what EPM is in our next “Oliver Video” until then you can go check out this video of our stallion, Bob. Who, unfortunately contracted EPM from a local feed store (that got shut down for contaminated livestock feed) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x9PB5xAQZKI.html
Yes, I watched Bob and his EPM story. JR was correct about all the vermin around that feed, where you picked Oliver up from. Didn’t Bob catch it from possum’s ❓🤔💜 Good to see Oliver is on the right road to recovery. I was shocked about his red cell being down & close to needing a blood transfusion 😪🐨🐨🦘
It's not quite so common a condition in Canada...no possums most places! But it's definitely a concern for horses shipping for breeding and showing and ending up here. Lucky they've been studying EPM and have treatments for it. Marquis(?) is available now for use in this country thank goodness! Again, good luck for the best result with little Oliver! Feed that boy!
Good, I just looked it up and was thinking that he could have picked this up from the unhealthy envrioment he was living in? This makes me sad for all of the other horses that were on the farm with Oliver. I don't know anything about EPM though. God Bless you good folks for helping this georgous baby and to all who have contributed to his care. I hope he can make a full recovery. He seems like such a loving boy. Just a shame how some people treat animals.
I was impressed with your Vet. I don’t think my husband has seen me cry so much, as what I have since our Oliver came along. He’s receiving absolutely best care possible and love 💕. I don’t think he would have lasted another day. If you had not gone & picked him up when you did. God is on our side. It really got to me when the Vet stated Oliver had been starved 😢😢JR & The Rosa Family Thank you . 🙏🙏💜💜🐨🐨🐨🦘🦘🦘
That was also too much for me to cope with. I just can't believe people are able to starve a poor helpless animal. I am over the moon that he is now getting the right life he deserves ❤
Same here..when JR asked if the epm was the cause of his anaemia and the vet said no..pure starvation..I just broke into little pieces..and he is in pain and feeling so darn crappy but ge is still such a gentle fellow..when let off in the field he just kept walking to JR..he knows he saved his life..they have that bond already ..from day 1..I hope and pray they've caught this disease early enough to get him better..think of the possibilities of JR together with Oliver..he adores his human saviour.. he trusts him so much..poor bugger must feel so bad but his temperament is still 100% cool dude ..🇬🇧🐑✝️🙏🐎👍👏👏🇺🇸
I sm new to horsemanship and i am stumped and cannot understand why anyone would starve a beautiful and valuable horse like Clydesdale Oliver . Why was he so neglected ?
Veterinarians are heros in my eyes. They have higher than average suicide rates and I can understand why. Be kind to your vet and appreciate that they give so much and often get asked for FREE or reduced rate services. They often do volunteer spay and neuter in addition to being busy busy busy. They see alot of death and sad humans. We have a shortage of veterinarians in California and I can understand why. It is often a thankless job, although not in Olivers case!! Thank Goodness! Get well Oliver xo
Funny you said veterinarian have a high suicide rate. One of my stable vets did commit suicide. I was shocked for he was always telling jokes and seemed happy.
How dare a seller make you pay over $5000 for a horse in such poor condition. You are a Godly man to help this poor animal. I hope you can communicate with officials who can take action to help the other horses in their custody who are suffering. I love Clydesdales too and hope he can become the horse he was born to be.
I am so thankful that Oliver has been brought to a home where kind people will take care of him how he deserves, for however long you can. My heart breaks for horses that people don't take care of. I wish I could help every last horse on this planet that needs help. Thank you for being so kind and generous. This world needs more people like you.
You literally saved Olivers life. He was watching that other horse die in his pen in Texas. I really think he knows how lucky he is to be there with you all at HH! He never has to know what starvation and neglect feels like again. Thank you all so much for keeping us posted. As soon as I saw this update, I nearly dropped my laptop trying so fast to play it! Bless you and yours...
That baby was neglected and abused. I think all of us would love to see the original owner brought up on charges, because his condition could easily have been mitigated if she’d bothered to give him the kind of care and treatment he needed, before things got this bad. Thank you, JR and the rest of your family, for helping Oliver, and for giving him a new chance at life. I cannot wait to see him improve over the coming weeks and months, and regain the health he was cheated out of so early in his life.
What a sin to let any horse get into this shape! Thank goodness you guys caught sight of him at that auction. Fingers still crossed that with your dedicated care , and medical support, Oliver will survive to enjoy a full life!
Oliver is such a sweet boy. I'm so happy he is in good hands. He's so loving and affectionate and knows he's being loved and cared for. EPM scares me. I'm so happy to know there is a treatment for EPM especially when caught early.
@@daemonember I'll check out that video. The more we know about EPM and how it is passed on to horses is important. How to prevent it and recognize it early if it does infect a horse is so important. Opossums aren't my favorite critters to see around my barn and pasture.
@@jules8299 opossum have a job to do also, they eat their weight in ticks, they eat poisonous snakes, ect. Just try envisioning all the opossum on 200 acre farm. You have to learn to keep an eye on your animals. Oliver's problem no body cared!
I never thought or let a horse take my heart as much as Oliver has. Thank you for being there for this horse and possibly more to come. God Bless your family and Oliver.
For an anemic horse, even though you can see he has low energy, he's still alert -- bright eyes and perks up his ears a lot -- and he likes his humans. Go, Oliver, Go!
We all knew he was mistreated and abused, but to hear the vet clearly say "It is that way because he was starved" makes me both want to hug him forever and cry at the same time. You all are changing lives up there, just as much as this kind soul will change yours. Bless you all.
Oliver doesn't know it yet, but he is a star. Can't wait to see his coat shine & his health & strength improve. Thank goodness for 2nd chances and great people!
As bad as his condition is, it's a wonder Oliver didn't have an infection of any kind (not counting the EPM and parasite load, of course). What a relief that he doesn't seem to have any organ damage! That poor baby has suffered so much in his short life, all from sheer neglect. His former owner should not be allowed to have any animals at all. Oliver is such a sweet horse, and clearly he loves and trusts you folks already. He doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. When he feels better (God willing!), his personality is just going to bloom. Again I am so thankful that you good folks have him now. You are exactly who he needs! After your experience with Bob, you even know how to deal with his EPM. God bless you!
I believe things happen for a reason & JR was meant to be at that Auction that day to Save Oliver. I some news for JR. Oliver will never let JR out of his sight. I see them developing a bond that will never be broken 💜💜💜🐨🦘
So many people are so happy that you got him, and I know we all believe you will help him recover completely. Thank you. It's amazing how much one can feel for an animal one sees only on video. He is so obviously a sweetheart! Love to Oliver. And please, keep those videos coming!
I believe Oliver will make a full recovery too. His blood count results were shocking and that together with being starved...no wonder he has been stumberling. Oliver is a fighter...and hes in the very best place for him ....thank Goodness otherwise he would never have survived this long! A good year from now...he will be as solid as a rock and we all wont recognise him!........Bless him x
What a shame poor Oliver was treated so poorly before. Is this just the way the horse trade is? That breeder/seller in Texas should be shut down for neglecting animals like this. If I remember right, while watching your other video where you picked him up, another horse was dead and one other down. Outrageous! Glad he is safe now with you, but this is disturbing.
His poor feet needs help, getting support the pain he must be in. He’s gonna be so much Happier. Thank You for giving this FURBABY a 2 nd chance❤️❤️🐎🐎❤️🕊️✨🕊️✨🕊️✨
Had y'all NOT gone back to rescue Oliver from the death trap stockade my gut tells me the obvious trajectory of death was upon him. No wonder he is so submissive. Prayers for a full recovery. God bless your family as Neurology issues are not for the light at heart. It can be grueling work for the afflicted to overcome. Here is a prayer for complete recovery and Oliver is in the 30 percentile. Busy days so far so please relax for awhile. And let the meds do its work. We should be furious that the owner refused your bid for him. Sounds like if they did not get what they want the decision to let a horse die, instead, is pride filled greed and could be charged as neglect.
He has this calm, content look in his eye that says "I know I'm in good hands here and they're going to help me to feel better. So glad these good people have taken me in."
What are the chances that the former owner already knew that Oliver had EPM before the sale? 😡And why would anyone starve this precious baby? 🐎He's got the best family in the world now!! Because of you, Oliver has an excellent chance of becoming 100% healthy and overcoming the EPM & anemia. 🙋🏼♀️💕
I really like the way Oliver interacts with JR and the rest of the family. I noticed he nudged JR at the vets. Clearly he really likes you and your family.❤
I have been waiting all day for this to drop. I am NOT a horse person but I somehow came across the first video of Oliver and was amazed at the compassion you showed for the saddest horse in the lot. You don't need to be a horse person to feel for this big guy. While the news was not great....it could have been a lot worse so we are happy about that. Please keep us up to date on Oliver and how he is doing.
That lady you bought him from his laughing all the way to the bank. But at least he saved him from a terrible life. Hopefully he'll recover enough to have a good quality of life.
Sweet baby must be confused, in a good way, aka in heaven, with all the loving attention, gentle kindness, and NOTHING BAD anymore. They love you Oliver, THEY and US, REALLY , REALLY LOVE YOU! #SweetheartHorse 💘
It hurts to see animals being mistreated in any way. I'm thankful that you have him now. In spite of the test results, I can see an improvement in him already. He's not standing there with his head hung and not moving. His ears are up and he's looking around. Clearly, his appetite has improved and I love how he tries to follow you. I guarantee his spirit is healing. Blessings to you and your family.
Poor boy. His previous owner should be fined and banned from owning any living thing. If you hadn’t bought him he’d probably be dead in a couple of weeks. It makes me so angry that she has all these other horses that are no doubt currently suffering. At least Oliver will now get the care and attention every animal deserves.
Oliver, this lovable, special, strong being. As sick as he is he has survived all these Ordeals, Auctions, the trips there and his homecoming over many many hours in the van, I am speechless at so much strength. Maybe he knew he was going into the best hands and that it was his last chance. You can already see that his look is more alive and his trust in people, after all he had to experience, is incredible.
I forgot what a sick little boy he was. Today he is so handsome and healthy, a real tribute to the care, love and support of his new family on the farm and on the internet. We love you Oliver!!
I still can't believe that the previous owner let him get that bad and still had the nerve to ask for that much money. Thanks for saving him from that irresponsible owner and a life of misery.
It makes me so angry that simply feeding him properly could have saved him from so much unnecessary pain and suffering🤬 So glad you brought him home to live the life he deserves❤️
Embarrassingly I had to look up EPM in horses but I'm grateful it doesn't sound fatal... I've been so scared Oliver had something beyond help. While his health isn't great right now, it's expected under the conditions he was in. Thank God that is now in his past and he can only get better from now on ❤️❤️❤️
I am glad that Oliver is in such good hands! And coincidentally, I was just diagnosed with very low B12 and put on a supplement to get my level in normal range. I can attest that makes you feel really run down and tired, and my extremities were tingly from lack of oxygen in the blood. I bet that Oliver will start feeling better with his B complex injections, just like I already feel a lot better!
Yup! Had the same situation. All of the symptoms you've stated, plus I also think it somehow affected my skin. Started eating LOTS of meat and have been feeling better ever since. I used to eat mostly pasta and seafood .... for years! Still working on the skin issues though.
It's so good seeing Oliver out of the squalor and into loving hands. Poor boy. I'm sure the fact that he's young is a big plus. Thank you for saving him!
I hope the cruel people you got him from are prosecuted. Their lack of care and greed are disgraceful. Humans at their worst! Oliver is a sweetie, I hope he gets better soon.
Sorry about the bad news, but I'm thinking he is going to be in that 30%. So much love and many ❤prayers for Oliver will be a constant. God bless you all for your dedication to this very special 🐎 horse.
I wish we could save all the horses from that ugly place, I wish they were all there with you and the vet - in experienced and caring hands. Look at Oliver's eyes following you and the glancing over at the camera person and looking at the young lady who was petting his nose - he has the most gentle look - I'm just horrified that he was ever with people that weren't you and how he might have been treated previously.
Omgoodness!!!💔💔😭 I believe in Prayer!! It just makes me soo stinking Mad!!! It doesn't do any good, being mad, but I am! God Bless you, Oliver! You WILL RECOVER! ❤🐎❤️
It makes me sick thinking about all those other horses... you just know the others are suffering from EPM. You called it right away when you saw how the horses were being watered. That previous owner was nothing but a puppy mill for horses. Onwards and upwards, dear Oliver!!
Oh my heart, Oliver is such a sweetheart. How absolutely wonderful that you found him and ultimately brought him home. Thank you for rescuing this darling boy...I’m so looking forward to following his healing journey! God bless EVERYONE involved in the love, healing and restoration of this precious horse. ❤🙏
So sad to hear the news about Oliver but I know you’re going to do your best to help him grow to be a strong & healthy boy. He has the sweetest personality even though he isn’t feeling his best. Can’t wait to see his personality open up as he starts to feel better. ❤️🙏🐎
I made it as far as 12:20 and just couldn't stop bawling. I'm sitting here saying to myself, "it's not even your horse", yet I can't stop the tears streaming down my face. Bless you, and your family for rescuing this beautiful soul.
EPM is bad news, but some horses can, with the right medication and vet care, do very well. Skydog Sanctuary in Oregon, has a very sweet gray mare named Dakoda, who came to them with painful urine scald caused by EPM neurological issues. She was treated with the appropriate meds, and became able to urinate normally. She is a sweet, calm, and gentle horse who helps a blind horse who is in with her. They are great friends. Two other great horses, Lily and Rosa (Rosa is also blind) are in with them. Beautiful Lily had a severe autoimmune disease that almost killed her, but she looks terrific now and is doing well. Probably some of you horse lovers on this channel are already familiar with Skydog. If not, you might want to look them up. Anyway, I hope that Oliver does as well as Dakoda with the EPM treatments!!!!!!
Oliver WILL be in those 30%✨. He didn't want to get in the stock till the vet gently patted his rump. He just needed more reassurance 🥰🐎. Thank you so much for what you are doing for him. Cheers from South America Uruguay 🇺🇾
