VICE News reporter, Jason Leopold, sits down with Academy Award winning director Oliver Stone, a man who never shies away from political controversy.
In his most recent film 'Snowden', Stone tells the story of the polarizing NSA employee who leaked classified documents to the public. Edward Snowden is viewed as a hero by some and as a traitor by others; Stone says he hopes to provide the information viewers need to make their own decision.

he's an American Patriot. I don't even think I would have refuted my beautiful paying job and benefits in order to uphold the constitution. It's common knowledge that the American Constitution means much less now then it did 30-40 years ago to most people.

Its sad to see people throw away their rights and hand more power to the state under the notion that somehow, socialism will be better. Yeah, let's totally give more tax money and power to the state. What ever could go wrong?

I like that oliver stone doesn't try and talk about subjects that are outside his knowledge base. Most people from hollywood think they're arbiters of wisdom just because they are famous.

doesn't try and talk about subjects that are outside his knowledge???? Oliver Stone says that Brazil suffered a coup. He clearly has no idea what he's talking about.
@renatonunes1533
@renatonunes1533 7 лет назад
415Underdog Dude, I'm Brazilian and I can say that there was no coup. The problem here is always the same: the left wing does not accept constitutional democracy. The impeachment occurred as provided in the constitution, and in no time passed over it. Dilma has committed a crime of responsibility. This is proven. This was proved by members of the court of accounts of the union that she named herself. The impeachment was countersigned by absolute majority in the supreme court. Of the 11 ministers of the supreme court, 8 were nominated by Dilma and Lula. The US may have put pressure on it and I do not doubt it. But a coup is to remove a legally elected governor by illegal means. And one who does not know the difference between a constitutional impeachment and a coup d'état can not debate the matter. And another thing, where was Oliver Stone when Fernando Collor was ousted from the same position in 1992? Was Fernando Collor an enemy of the United States? The president who opened the import and export market in Brazil?

I don't think people realize. He gave up much more than that. It wasn't just the comfortable life, but he was facing most probably (as he put it) life in prison, torture and perhaps death. This puts the sacrifice on a higher life. The man is incredibly brave. He was facing giving up his life, full stop.

Some suggestions of questions to this gentleman: - Mr. Stone, why do you say Dilma Rousseff suffered a coup if the impeachment was legal and followed all the rules laid down in the constitution? - Mr. Stone, do you know that in Venezuela opponents of the government are being arrested on false charges? - Mr. Stone, do you know that in Venezuela there are food shortages and several basic items? - Mr. Stone, why do you continue to support the Venezuelan government even though it is a dictatorship?
