This song is like a timeless teenage anthem. I’m middle aged, and when I listen to it I’m transported back to the late 80’s when I was a teen. I’m so grateful we didn’t have social media back then, but still we were constantly bombarded by messages from the media (TV, movies, teen magazines) that we weren’t good enough. I wanted to be pretty and perfect like the teen models in Seventeen magazine. Now those chicks are on Instagram. The good news is, you end up growing out of it and loving yourself for who you are. Because everyone has their own beauty. ❤

this is such a great song - my teenage daughter put me onto it. I'm 53, some life advice for any young women out there feeling miserable: 1) stop or at least reduce social media 2) exercise daily - your body will automatically release endorphines and you WILL FEEL BETTER (even if you don't want to) 3) finish your shower every morning with 30 seconds cold water - again your body will automatically release endorphines and you WILL FEEL BETTER (even if you don't want to) Do those 3 things and you will feel better about everything - nothing you see in social media will make you happy
Third one is true! Also I feel like doing something you hate motivates you to also finish up with everything else because you already did one task, right? Pretty helpful when it comes to studying imo. My parents are deeply against cold showers in the winter though.

This isn't just an anthem for teens, it's more of an anthem for after you graduate and you watch everyone get their shit together or party away at college and you don't know who you are or where you're going, you just learn to accept not taking the typical paths and growing on your own, even if you're not in college, or engaged or have kids, or a house, or a brand new car. We all have our own paths and the ones who don't take the usual route always end up the farthest bc of less traffic and your will and drive. Just bc you dont look or do what everyone else did after you graduated, doesn't mean you're any less or they're any better. You got plenty time to find yourself in this scary world. I don't enjoy "pop songs" ever so often, but I find Olivia's songs very interesting at most of time, especially because the lyrics are very honest, showing her thoughts and emotions without any polishing.
