And we want to know your TOP 3!
i knew olivia was good when she dropped drivers license but with this album she proved to everyone that she's here to fucking stay for a long time. this album is one of the best debuts just like when we all fall asleep by billie. my favorites are brutal, 1 step forward 3 steps back, deja vu, good 4 u, happier and hope ur ok
someone said (and i agree) that "hope ur ok" wasn't about the break up anymore, it was about her friends (could be real people but it also could be a lot of people summarized into two) and how she recognizes that some people are having a harder time than her and she hopes they're okay the last verse could be directed to her ex, but i honestly think it's directed to all of us
I think this album is about sour relationships in general. Breakups, social media, family, etc. Also, I think hope ur okay is about her childhood friends having abusive and non-accepting parents because they pay more attention to their religion instead of their own child, hence the bible line.
i think that she is talking about a couple of her fans and supporting them in a song with out saying there name because she knows that people are going through things worse than what she is going threw and she is over joshua now and wont care about what he thinks anymore because she wrote a whole album about him
To see how many people are not talking about "favorite crime" and "hope ur ok" is sad, because imo their messages are so beautiful and powerful; I feel like people haven't truly listened yet.
ugh yes!!! i think every song on the album is genius but favorite crime is by far the best one imo... the story and the lyrics r so beautiful n the most heartbreaking to me
why doesn’t anyone talk about how favorite crime is a about how olivia (16-17 at the time) was in a relationship with a 19-20 year old so she literally calls him out by saying “i hope i was your favorite crime” 😭
@@avie_isnt she was under the age of consent when(if) they dated and he was an adult, so if they’d done anything it would have been illegal technically. I don’t think that’s what’s she’s getting at in the song though.
you're the kind of people that give all types of music a chance before saying its not necessarily your favourite!!!!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!! we need more of you!!!!
this might be a lot but this was a perfect debut album. I think she encompassed so many of her sour feelings we can all relate to, whether we are 17 or 26 or even 35. I just feel like most of these are relatable. I think that last song was a great closer for the album but descriptive of who she is. this was a chapter of her life and now the book is closed, I love it so much. my top three songs are: brutal, happier, and favorite crime!!!
i think favorite crime is like- a realization of how happy you were in the moment of a certain relationship, and understanding that it’s over and just looking back at it as a fond memory. and i think that’s why hope ur ok is after it and is the last track. it’s a sign of her completely moving on, and understanding that there are worse things in life and more things (good and bad) to come.
I love that you guys pay attention to the lyrics and melody of the songs, you analyze them very well. Great job!👏🏽 "I hope you're happy, but don't be happier" You: 👁👄👁
the fact that shes only 18 and wrote all these songs herself with maybe one co writer on a couple is just amazing like this girl is talented and is going places
Album was fire start to finish. But favorite crime, traitor, enough for you, and happier. But literally obsessed with all of them top to bottom. 1-11 she smashed it. And your reaction was amazing. I love how you guys dissect it and just really get into it.
This reaction was dope. You actually reacted and dissected the lyrics. Its cool when you can watch someone else listen to it and you notice or hear something that you wouldn't have noticed on your own
i can see jealousy jealousy in like a coming of age movie where the protagonist is disconnected from everyone and seeing people live their lives. the bridge would be so cool in like a driving scene or someone throwing shit around and breaking stuff
also when she says “i knew from the start that’s exactly how you’d leave” in enough for you it could also connect to deja vu hence to her knowing how his next relationship will end
In my personal opinion, I don't think Olivia knew Joshua was queer. Something tells me she thought he was straight also, I don't think Hope Ur Okay is about him either but rather her past friends.
yeah i agree when i listened to it i just thought it was a coincidence, i love the song so much though, i really like how she through in that powerful message on the end of the album
@@valarirussak11 in enough for you she says ‘cause someday I’ll be everything to somebody else, and THEYLL think that I’m so exciting’. she could’ve said ‘he’, but she chose ‘they’. and she’s very purposeful with her lyrics.
In Brutal, the lyrics, "Where's my F Teenage Dream?". I-, my mind, "YOU MADE ME FEEL LIKE I'M LIVING A TEENAGE DREAM!" - Teenage Dream by Queen Katy Perry. 💖
i really like this video cause guys are listening so well, paying attention to a lot of details in song structure, lyrics and so on, respect that a lot, thank you for your honest opinions and reactions~
i think this is how the story goes: brutal: this is like overview of all the emotions that will be shown throughout the album and the unexpectedness of the album itself. it’s written about her struggles as a teenager in the media and how she grew up in the spotlight as a Disney kid. traitor: this is when the story starts, Olivia finds herself broken hearted after her ex moves on fast to another girl. she describes this breakup as a betrayal on the guys end. as he didn’t cheat but moved on to another girl and fell in love so quickly. This is the initial heartbreak of the album. driver’s license: this is now Olivia’s reminiscing period, she talks about the things they talked about when they were together and how she drives past his house and how she thinks about their relationship and their moments together. she admits she still loves him and that she hasn’t moved on yet. 1 step forward, 3 steps back: Olivia now tries to reach out again to her ex, and they seem to be on talking terms again but he is very bipolar and either treats her like a goddess or dirt. however since this has become the norm for olivia she doesn’t leave as this is all she knows and that the “roller coasters all she’s ever had”. deja vu: after her ex makes it public with his new girl, olivia starts to realise the patterns in his new relationship and their past one she figures our that he’s reusing everything they did with his new girl. she calls her ex out and sings about how she knows that everything is all reused. good 4 u: this is when olivia starts to get bitter. she’s realised she’s been played, betrayed, mentally used and abused and she’s had enough. she calls her ex out on how he’s a narcissist, she becomes passive aggressive too telling him that she doesn’t care what he does and says “good 4 u”, which implies that she no longer cares about him or his life and decisions enough for you: olivia calms down and starts to reflect. she now sees how much she changed for him and how she never got anything in return from him expect betrayal. she realises that she was never going to be good enough for him and she realises that what she changed about herself not only did she do to impress him but she did it to be provided with validation from him. she realised that all she did was sabotage herself happier: this is where she starts to feel more sadness to this breakup once again. she wishes that he’s happy but doesn’t want him to be happier without her, she feels as if she being selfish about it and that he can’t be happy and that she can’t let him fully go yet. jealousy, jealousy: olivia now starts to compare herself to others and how the media had depicted their breakup and their relationship, she feels as if she’s no longer good enough for anyone or anything anymore she seems to be comparing herself to everyone else, all she sees online is what the internet shows as a perfect girl or woman which puts olivia further into her self doubt, because she believes that the reason her ex left her for another girl is because she’s better than her and how his new girl makes her insecure (links to DL) favourite crime: this is the final stage of the breakup, olivia finally comes to the conclusion that they were never meant for each other, she realised that what she did for him he never returned, she knows that it was also her fault as she never left the situation even though she knew what he was doing. she realised that they both were in the wrong in some ways and that they are both to blame in some ways. hope ur ok: this is the closing song which doesn’t relate to the relationship but it talks about how everyone has struggles and heartbreaks and that emotions are okay, and that it’s okay for things to be uncertain, she sings about people she’s met before and how she proud of them for seeing the new day even if it was hard. at end of the song she reminds everyone that she loves them and she hopes they are okay 💕 some of these could be completely off but these are just what i think, idk tho guys let me know what u think🤪
the fact that she said “saying i love you in between the chorus and the verse” and proceeds to whisper “i love you” in between her chorus and her verse 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think for “hope that your okay” it’s changing from the whole album. Since the whole album was about her she wanted to make the last song about other people. It was probably for a thank you for listening to my feelings but your feelings also matter :)
I love how you guys reacted to the album as an analytic and songwriter. Most reactors just say they love it or jam with it (not that it’s bad but it just gets tiring to watch). So as a storyteller and writer, this is really satisfying to watch and I hope you guys keep it up.
UGHHHH!!! I loved how you looked at this album as a story and valued the relationship that the songs had to each other. It made for a beautiful and useful reaction of the album. Y'all didn't skip the singles nor analyze them any less because you understood the importance of every puzzle piece. Damn, can't tell y'all how much I loved your careful analysis of the album.
in my opinion hope ur okay is about olivia’s childhood friends, they parted ways and she’s wondering if these two people are doing okay after dealing with such hard situations. also there’s a discussion about the two characters being lgbtqia+ (“his parents cared more about the bible than being good to their own child” “her parents hated who she loved”). i totally agree with this interpretation.
Absolutely LOVE your analysis of the album. Might have been the one album reaction I agreed with the most in forms of interpretation, and I love that you didn’t just vibe but really dove into the lyrics, considering that Olivia most of all is a lyricist and composer.
I LOVE how although every individual's heartbreak is different, this embodies the experience in every individual. It's like reliving that time and your own story and how you felt. The "hope ur ok" to me feels like the last chapter of this experience where you have 99% moved on and you're channeling that energy towards reflecting on what matters knowing that during the beginning of your grief you weren't focusing on it because you were hurting.
heres my top 3... 1. Traitor- this song is so strong and it really gives off her emotions 2. Good 4 u- i love how powerful this song is but also it can be relatable when nothing like it has ever happened to you- ahah lol 3. i cant tell between brutal or happier bc happier is soo catchy and i love it so much and brutal is just a mood and an AMAZING way to start off the album, am i right? lol thank you for reading this!
for those who don’t know: the bridge in deja vu (“i know you get deja vu!”) is inspired by the bridge to cruel summer by taylor swift!! olivia is a big fan of taylor swift and even samples her song New Years Day in 1sf3sb :)
i really like how you guys talk a lot about the lyrics, details, and order of the albums you react to. most people dont now how to observe the stages of the story through music and i have so much respect for you guys because of that.
My top 5 are probably as follows: 1. good 4 u 2. brutal 3. jealousy, jealousy 4. happier 5. traitor btw, these could probably all be interchanged they are all amazing but so are the other ones and I wanna sit here and keep pondering this AHHH
You guys understood the assignment!!!! This is the best reaction I have watched, thank you for breaking down/ appreciating the lyrics that many have missed
YALL ARE SO DETAILED ABT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN A SONG AND ANOTHER IN ONE ALBUM AND I THINK ITS AWESOME HOW U CAN POINT THAT OUT BY THE FIRST TIME OF LISTENING TO IT! I LOVE U SO MUCH
One thing I love about this album is the first official lyric in brutal is ‘im’ and the final lyric of the album in hope ur ok is “ok” ... so the first and last words add up to say “I’m ok” even if it’s unintentional this just makes the album go to the god tier for me
ur right with hope ur ok im lesbian and cant come out to anyone other than close friends. my whole family is very conservative. i cry every single time i listen to it because it just hits my heart so deeply and i feel comforted by her.
same, i understand how you feel. it sucks when you can’t even be yourself. i know how hard it is. i hope you will one day be able to tell them or be happy without telling them.
I like your theory about the ending, especially because it’s been said that joshua didn’t have a great relationship with his parents, particularly when it comes to expressing sexuality and emotions
i really love how in driver's license she says "she's everything i'm insecure about" and then in jealousy jealousy we get to hear those things that the other girl is that she's insecure about. another fantastic connection
I really love how you guys dissected this album song by song, lyric by lyric, and acknowledging the different tones she uses, praising her vocally! I honestly feel like listening to this album from your guy's perspective definitely made me love the album even more. and you guys are a beautiful set of twins. It is impossible for me to choose my top three though.
they way they reacted during "happier" when it switched from the chorus to the second verse.... that was literally me. the way we all knew it was the best song on the album from that moment LOL
one thing i noticed in brutal is she said i wish i did this before and that kinda ties to deja vu and at the end she’s says i don’t even know where to start then it goes into the album i though that was cool
oh wow honestly i watched multiple reactions to this song but none of them was as insightful as yours . so thankful for this album for helping me discover your channel 🦋
Olivia actually wrote the Corus to happier a long time ago (MUCH before she started releasing songs) and she posted it on her Instagram. I remember listening to it and thinking of how I couldn't get it out of my head. Now she is here, so successful, and she decided to put this on her album! My favorite song by a long shot🥰 if you can, try to find the original snippet on youtube. it's better imo
She ended with hope ur ok because all throughout the album she talked about her painful experiences, her struggles and she wanted to say that no matter how hard life is for her, others have it harder and she's proud of those who have the courage to unlearn all people's hatred.
if you look at the last like two sentences of hope ur ok i think it is abt her ex bc she says “i hope that you happier today (a reference to happier where she had wished he wasn’t happier but by this song she does hope he is) cause i love you (drivers license bridge) and i hope that your okay”
Top 3? Brutal. (Absolute bop, and im constantly saying "God, its brutal out here" constantly) Good 4 u. (The bridge! Im constantly screaming the lyrics and headbanging) Hope ur ok. (I cry to this song and remember all the hard times people, and me, have gone through that relate to different lines. Also love the beauty that its about her friends, and not the guy that broke her heart.)
Y'all are my favorite reaction channel. You're not dramatically fake and I can tell you both really like music. This album is so good, traitor is my favorite...hits deep. And good 4 you is a bop. Edit: I've been watching y'all for a few months now and I really thought I was subscribed 🤦🏻♀️ lol i am now
I think at the end of hope ur ok when she says “I hope you’re happier today and i hope that you’re ok” it’s a throw back to the song Happier and she now is in a place where she does want the person to be happier and she hopes they are ok too. I think the first two verses are about previous friends but she throws that line purposefully at the end to close up the relationship and the album. Just my theory. Either way, all of it is genius.
You guys had a great reaction! I love how much you paid attention to the lyrics and I really enjoyed watching this. My top 3 are fluid right now, but I love Brutal, Jealousy, Jealousy and Traitor :)
You guys are without a doubt my favorite RU-vidrs! I love your commentary and the way you actually put in the patience to enjoy the song and break down there lyrics INTELLIGENTLY. I'm so grateful I stumbled upon this channel and immediately subscribed. My RU-vid days just got better😊💜
I love you guys' reaction so much, cause you're reacting to the melody, lyrics and the order of the album. I haven't really seen a reaction like this omg
I think “hope ur ok” is the perfect ending to this album because it’s proof that she has moved on. She is no longer thinking about her ex and her own pain but about others, the miracles that they are, and their well-being. I really enjoy your reactions. You guys really spend the time to listen and dissect the lyrics and see the connections songs have with other songs or even other albums.
