The first time I heard this song, I remember listening to it solely because I liked Olivia Rodrigo and the sound of this song. A year later, I met a guy who became my absolute best friend. We used to sit on the bus sharing AirPods, and he would play this song on repeat. And another year later, he asked me out, dated me for a bit, decided he liked someone else, broke up with me, and left me for another girl two weeks later. Every emotion I felt after the break up is perfectly summarized in this song. I realized the year I spent with him was all a lie and every word and "forever" that he promised me were just words. For a while, I was left very very heartbroken and thought nothing could get me out of this slump unless he came back. The break up is still fresh and seeing him with his new girl hurts, but I've learned to deal with it and let things go. Glad to have had this song to listen to and cry, rage, and smile to.

I love the essence of innocence the song has. In parts of the song if you listen closely to lines like “I know if you were true there is no damn way that you could fall in love with somebody that quickly.” It in my opinion portrays the fact that she knows that they were together even before the breakup however she chose denial due to her feelings. The song gives of “I love you so much that I would do anything for you even play blind if that’s what it takes.”

The song describes exactly how it happed to me. He dumped me at my highest hope for our future. I fight everything for his love but left me no where. I try to survive every single day with tears while seeing him perfectly fine with other people. My heart broke into pieces second time when I saw him show his love contract with a brand new girl in the same coffee shop that we used to go together. It only took him two weeks to date a new girl while my whole world is in darkness and fear. I started to collect everything before our breakup. He avoided showing me his messages and he kept ignoring my messages. He became indifferent and didn’t care at all. I gradually accept the truth and walk away. The most heartbreaking part about this song is you can tell where she gets really emotional as she sings. As a singer, I understand this. Your mouth might get full of saliva and you might clench your teeth when you feel a lot of emotion. Your body builds tension. You can hear it in the bridge. This song isn’t just amazing because it’s lyrically and musically genius, it’s beautiful because there’s so much raw emotion invested.

I just recently went through a messy breakup. After she met a new friend, she suddenly became cold and barely spoke to me anymore. Whenever I would confront her about her distance, she would always brush me off and claimed this guy was just a "friend". A few arguments later, and I was demoted to a friend and he got promoted to her new partner. My heart goes out to Olivia. I just got a taste of what she had, and it really hurts. I know what it's like to love a traitor.
