Bravo, Olivier Franc! Bravo, Sidney Bechet!
Visit Paris and if you are Lucky, you'll enjoy his wonderfull music on the bridge Saint-Louis, together with his son playing the piano. It's great, his notes echoing over the waves of the Seine from St. Germain to Le Marais. (and get an ice-cream at Berthillion)
That’s right, I’ve just experienced it today !!! It was very nice . I spoke to him and his son at the end of the show, I congratulated him for giving us so much fun during these difficult moments we are all living, he’s a very friendly man ! (Sorry for my english 😅)
I saw him and his son playing at the Notre-Dam this weekend. Wow, what an amazing jazz musicians these guys are! Perfect. Have a look on my channel for the video.
You know Olivier plays Bechet's Buescher Soprano from 1924? He received it from Guy Demole, who bought it at an auction for more that 120000 Euros (I had the privilege to "touch" it one during a concert)
Can't decide if I prefer the sound of a sax or a clarinet, but this is a great interpretation. I'm collecting all kinds of versions of this wonderful tune and I ain't heard a bad one yet.
A great tribute to Sidney's wonderful tone-brought tears to my eyes! Every time I listen I am moved by the raw passion exhibitted in that Bechet sound and that sound is recaptured here -voila!
Every time I long for Paris, I just listen to Olivier Franc, close my eyes and I'm back on Pont de St. Louis on a beautiful spring morning. One of the things that keep me goïng.
it´s magnific, it´s the jazz in all expression. Woody Allen known, without doubt, everything that this composition could be neccesary from Paris. This is a brilliant interpretation, and i´m sure that might listen it a lot of times and i would bring all my memories in a moment. Excellent jazz, amazing notes in a space. Salut!
On the 10th of july, a little jazz ensemble with a double bass and a soprano saxophone played on teh Rue des Franc Bourgeois (le Marais between the Place des Vosges and the Rue des Rosiers). Their repertoir consisted also of jazz-standards en pieces from Sidney Bechet. So, it was a sunday morning just before noon, it was Paris, it was as Sopsax, an older lady dressed in a kind of retrostyle dance on the pavement, they were also selling CD's but it was nothing compared with that wonderfull sunday in 2011 on the pont de st. Louis.
