Olivier Messiaen: L'Ascension. III. Transports de joie d'une âme devant la gloire du Christ qui est la sienne IV. Prière du Christ montant vers son Père Olivier Latry, organ of Stavanger Concert Hall, sept.13, 2014. Norsk Orgelfestival.
I cry listening to Latry play Messiaen. He is a gift to the music of Messiaen and is one of the rare individuals that can channel the truly mystical and primordial spiritual energy of music.
I cry because he sounds like he's hurrying to get the piece over and done with so that he can leave. I'll take Jennifer Bate or Hans-Ola Ericsson's interpretations over Latry's any day.
Un purgatoire pour nos chères âmes ! Célébration de la Terre et du Ciel… et ce génie de l’orgue, O. Latry, qui interprète si judicieusement la partition glorieuse d’O. Messiaen !
I am fascinated by the personality of the individual. In the previous century, he never doubted in a world where everything led to believe that he would collapse on himself! All his work is like the first light of twilight. It was during his lifetime the reproach that his was made. His music, under dark and diabolic aspects, was composed entirely to the glory of Christ, and he suffered greatly as a result ;-(
Grandísima interpretación,transporta al oyente, los matices y el acento están magníficamente desarrollados, transmite al oyente la intención de Messiaen.
He lifted his eyes upward at the end... and I saw him do that in a video where he played Vierne's Claire de Lune. Do you suppose he's saying a prayer of gratitude/in memory at the end of these pieces by people he so admires and from whom he draws inspiration?
Seriously? This "song" is just very loud noise interspersed with almost inaudible wrong progression chords. It's a surprise that there are individuals that like this.
you must live your life in a state of permanent surprise and stupefaction; it must be quite tiring to constantly discover that there is a world outside of one's own myopic experience.
Messiaen by himself : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7FHc2ooFT3E.html And you must know that Latry uses scores annoted by Messiaen himself.
LOL! “Too fast”? Seriously? The tempo marking does say “Vif”, no? And as Kepler Gso’s video link attests, Messiaen himself took the third movement quite a bit faster than Latry.
