No great surprises here. Exemplifies all of the arch hipness that we have come to expect from Gen Z's is it virtual signaling Bauhaus marxist socialist design aesthetic all in "50 shades of (regulation) battleship grey kitted out with all best regulation furnishings available from Habitat and Ikea together with a few rather pretentious sub "Tat Modun" "artistic expressions" unfortunately spaffed by the artist into existence onto a piece of canvas in a vain attempt to be "funky" and "original" and which now "decorate" Ollie and Gareth's place at what one would imagine to be some eyewatering cost! Wow how amazing it all is! Except that it isn't! We've seen it everywhere from the Chelsea to Stevenage to Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah! It's everywhere and dominates our world from College to Resort Hotel, to Office to housing estate. I think in reality their home is a testament to the success of the modernist movement and its design aesthetic since that time in brainwashing the entire artistic establishment that modernism is the very height of artistic endeavour and achievment and something to which we should all aspire. I think it's high time that people woke up to the fact that modernism and every movement that we have had since, under whatever title and label is an IDEOLOGY that runs rampant across the entire architectural, artistic and modern design aesthetic world. You may love it or you may hate it but either way it is an IDEOLOGY! Unfortunately a lot of this nonsense stems from that lunatic modernist architect by the name of a certain Adolf Loos who back in 1910 wrote something to the effect that "ornament is crime" and we have been living with the fall out of his essay on the subject ever since. However, I am happy to report that in the field of architecture in Norway and Sweden the young are rejecting Modernist inspired architecture and instead are turning to Classical and Traditional forms of architecture with great success to the dismay of the existing architectural establishment there and the delight of those who appreciate the grace, beauty and charm of pre-modernist architecture. Notre Dame School of Architecture in the USA exemplify the success of new Classical and Traditional architects for those that are interested in and care about such subjects. It's both sobering and humbling to acknowledge that today we have all of the technical resources and materials at our disposal including AI to reproduce even the grandest and most palatial designs in a great many fields at at astonishingly modest cost! Examples abound from floor coverings, wall coverings, window dressings, upholstery, tableware, bedlinen, door furniture, furniture - pretty much everything! Trouble is it is becoming harder and harder and harder to find So let's all get to work to DEMOCRATISE and make available all the FINER and FINEST things in life, to all and sundry that desire them, at a sensible and affordable cost! After all isn't "A THING OF BEAUTY A JOY FOREVER"? Beauty bolsters our spirits and raises our vibration. How often can we say the same for the "latest and greatest" steel, glass and concrete prize winning "starchitect" monstrosity! BTW I'm no design totalitarianist dictator unlike those on the Left so if you happen to be some poor unfortunate who finds "50 shades of battleship grey" or the equivalent simply irresistible and love any "artwork" deemed sufficiently "funky" and "original" to be of interest, then who am I to spoil your fun? And last and not least Ollie and Gareth, whilst I may have been pretty trenchant in critiquing your design tastes I absolutely do not hate either of you and am delighted that you can afford to indulge your taste design tastes just as much as we would all like to do and I sincerely hope that you love your home (if still there) and probably more importantly each other.!
