A truly exceptional piece of coaster engineering. If Olympia Looping didn't exist, the concept of a giant travelling coaster made in the 80s being able to provide an experience as thrilling as many modern coasters would be considered crazy. I'm very grateful I get the opportunity to ride it every Winter in London.
@88tibro
@88tibro Год назад
Well, Olympia Looping was sort of the last of the big travel coasters in Germany (Alpina Bahn, 3er Looping & Thriller had all come before). Okay then there also was Eurostar manufactured in the 90s. But yeah, whilst Olympia is pretty much the last one around alongside Alpinabahn, it surely wasn't a trend setter. There were funfairs here in Germany where sometimes you had 2 or even 3 of such rides on one funfair. I miss those times.

@@88tibro Funny fact: Every coaster you mentions exept for the dreier looping were purchased by the showman oscar bruch. He truly is a madman.

You folks in Europe are so lucky. Any of the major fairs over there put US State fairs to shame, and in Canada too, which is even worse when it comes to traveling amusements. Most of which should be in museums ;)
@Fox_on_a_Rollercoaster
@Fox_on_a_Rollercoaster Год назад
@@davefroman4700 I appreciate it! I really wanna ride your "museum" pieces, though. The Zipper never fails to amaze to name my fav. I just wanna quickly mention that big coasters like this won't be at a normal fair. The Oktoberfest, Wiener Prater (Not a fair at all, more like an amusement park) and Winter Wonterland in Hyde Park are very special events. I can only talk about the showman traveling around in germany and around. These are very proud showman familys. A big advantage are the european based manufacturers though. Anton Schwarzkopf not only did those wonderful coasters, but a huge amount of flatrides. Classic rides by Huss, Gerstlauer, KMG and Mondial to name a few have absolute maniacs employed as engineers. A lot of thier rides got shipped to the us, too.
@davefroman4700
@davefroman4700 Год назад
@@Fox_on_a_Rollercoaster Here the rides/games are owned mostly by big outfits full of greasy people that don't get paid much. Big difference from the family operations of Europe. And most of them carry the bare minimum for theming etc. You never see them add anything extra to a ride that is for certain. Even if you look at the EU Manufacturers installments in the US you find its ordered with the bare minimum.

A traveling coaster that’s 4,101 feet long! That’s longer than Iron Gwazi, but with half the height!! And it still manages to tear through most of the course! Schwarzkopf’s really have a special magic to them!

I really hope that they will never sell or scrap this coaster. It's a legend and one of the last remaining pieces of art engineering by Schwarzkopf. I am so happy I finally got to ride it this year and I was surprised how a coaster that is over 30 years old can be so smooth. R.I.P. Anton Schwarzkopf. Thank you for making our world more fun.

I ride this every year in munich. It's still one of my fav coasters. You have to experience this coaster in munich or in london, though. In other locations the trains are 2 cars shorter, wich makes quite a difference. I'm just amazed how a traveling coaster made in '89 is still riding pretty smooth. The showman oscar bruch loves his Schwarzkopf coaster and it's superb to see how much love these one of a kind coasters get. So much history
@johnphillips3475

This ride is not owned by Oscar Bruch. He does own Alpina Bahn, and previously owned the Schwarzkopf Thriller and the Intamin inverter EuroStar. Olympia is owned by Rudolph Barth, who previously owned the Schwarzkopf Dreier, Looping. Amazingly, there was a brief period from 1995 to 1997 where all 5 of these rides travelled in Germany at the same time

One other incredible stat not mentioned in the video is its capacity. In theory, trains can be dispatched every 40 seconds, and if using all 5 trains, and the extra two cars added to each train in London and Munich, it can reach over 2,500 riders per hour.

Man, it would be FUN to walk up that lift hill staircase, haha. That thing is barely wide enough for 2 feet. Brilliant piece of engineering. That first vertical loop has so much sideways kickover to it. Halfway to being a corkscrew almost. God, I wish Schwarzkopf wasn't terrible with his money and was still alive. IMAGINE if he was still in the industry. Arrow wouldn't have become such a big phenomena I'd imagine if he'd stayed in the game.

A compact coaster with five inversions, and a nice length including a nice little cruising section towards the end? Yes, this is how coasters should be made. Getting pretty sick of the 20-30 second rides that are being built these days (thankyou ArieForceOne that area needed an RMC that wouldn't have it's last 1/3 missing). Also having a Schwarzkophf coaster quite honestly no matter how big or small, clone or not, should not be taken for granted. Especially not custom models (SF Over Georgia appreciate Mind Bender more!). Only saying this last part because many do. Also if Busch Gardens Tampa doesn't want there's sell it to Fun Spot Orlando it'd fit in nice, theming or not tbh.
