I bought this kiln 9 months ago and I will just say that changing the elements is a problem because the insulators are not screwed in. I am calling the Olympic people pretty frequently to work this out. Nothing is covered in the warranty but they did send me these parts free of charge. I also was not expecting to have to change these AND the relay this soon.

O wow that sucks, we have had good luck with it but its also just a hobby and we are not running all the time. I will put up a video when I have to do this, but until then good luck!

Hi! Thanks for the review, we just bought this kiln too. How long does an average firing take?

Sorry did not see this comment it depend on the setting you choose, bisques are ~12 hours with a 3 hour hold, glazes are about 8 hours

Hi Kevin, thanks for this review and I was wondering what size shelf is it that fits this kiln? Did you get stands as well and if so what is the hight? Also it has been a while since you're review have you had to replace anything or had any problems with the kiln?

sorry for the late reply but so far the kiln is still working great haven't had to replace anything and when every we go to use it, it just works haha! We bought an extra shelves from the same company, since it only came with one and my wife wanted to use one for the base and one as a shelf. I think my wife has a mix of stilts, ranging from 1" to 6"

How much fits it the kiln? Like how many mugs or bowls etc.

7 regular sized mugs when glazing, 3 on bottom 4 on top. Note we did get an extra shelf to protect the bottom of the kiln so we do loose some room.

Can you fire porcelain clays in the kiln?

It fires up to Cone 8 (2300F) which I believe is not quite high enough for porcelain sorry.

What type of clay do you use? Can it do black clay?

It appears that this kiln is a risk. A kiln has to be safe and you do not have to constantly call the manufacturer for parts or assistance.

Also, Olympic has provide NO videos online to help with this model in changing the relay and elements. Getting helpful info is very difficult. The above video was done by the potter's husband, which is odd.

Because I am the technical one haha, if something does break, which has not happen yet for us, I will be the one to fix it.
