At one point some feds had it in the rule books that going too deep on squat was grounds for redlights. So you could legitimately get reds for going too low. But, that rule wasn't really ever enforced. I want to say it was like in the SPF, which basically meant it wasnt gonna happen really ever. Haha.

@OneDerscoreOneder
@OneDerscoreOneder 3 года назад
@Sheldon Julius mixed hook whoa
@zachdion2586
@zachdion2586 3 года назад
Hook grip is more efficient to pull max loads then mixed grip. Look at someone like Jamal browner. There’s a good reason why lifters like him who switch to hook grip start to deadlift more. It places the lats in a more optimal position to lift. Because of that more optimal position when doing hook grip there is no reason to do both hook grip and mixed grip. If you can do hook grip successfully then just do it. There is no reason to try to do both if that makes sense. While the grip may be stronger that doesn’t mean someone can lift more. The grip isn’t the only reason people fail. Hope I helped
@OneDerscoreOneder
@OneDerscoreOneder 3 года назад
@@zachdion2586 I disagree. I think that it depends how good your deadlift is. Hook is stronger than mixed in that it can hold more weight, but if you have excess finger strength relative to your deadlift then it's not really necessary. I believe fingertip grip is sometimes the best option. This doesn't apply to people like Jamal, but for people who are light with strong hands or just don't have problems with grip it can actually be better. It artificially extends your arms by another inch ish.

Weightlifting has a good transfer of skills over to powerlifting. On the other hand...powerlifting has no transferable skills to weightlifting. Powerlifters would lack the mobility, speed, and balance. I can see retired weightlifters crossing over to powerlifting.

Exactly , if a weightlifter try powerlfiting will have an elite total even without training specifically for the sport , that’s why I respect weightlifters a lot despite the fact I’m an hardcore powerlfiting lover 🤙✌️

This is not really as true as people think imo. Powerlifting is likely to have more PEDs, it has an entire equipped division and I suppose only Squat is directly transferable without additional training. Do not get me wrong, he still lifts more than me at every lift at lower bodyweight.

Those deadlifts looked very easy. When powerlifters and strongman competitors deadlift, they tend to be stronger from the floor to the knee than from the knee to lockout. When weightlifters deadlift, they tend to be stronger from the knee to lockout rather than from the floor to the knee.

@@rasherth9324 I have the same situation. It means you need more leg drive. According to Andy Bolton, one exercise that definitely helps with that is the leg press. If you don't have that machine, other exercises that help there are front squats, high bar Olympic squats and Hack deadlifts. A Hack deadlift is a deadlift with the bar behind you rather than in front of you.

As a former weightlifter, I can tell you he's incredibly strong for what he's lifting in oly competition. I would expect his cj 20kg higher with that squat. Shows you how weightlifting is truly a sport about technique and physical power doesn't necessarily translates directly into performance in main lifts.

For example my 1RM in squat was 230kg, but I was able to cj 170kg out of it. And some people would squeeze even more.

Have you ever tried it? Gives you a lot more quad power off the floor. It just makes the lift more closely resemble the first pull of a clean, which he's already going to be absurdly strong at - why learn a completely new movement pattern for the sake of millimetres of ROM?

@@zaynmalice7106 tried on pwl. It only gives about 85-95% of my max on normal conventional pull. Note that I am a full time powerlifter, not a weightlifter so that will be a thing. And beside, I just point out that he did it amazingly good, not trying to criticize anyone here.

@@Goriaas no, because "weightlifting shoes utilize your movement to use more quad than normal flat shoes, it's mostly used in squat competitors. hence, squat shoes. and I have to inform you, both Olympic lifting lifts, have 50% of their movement squat variants. so, again. squat shoes.

Bench would hold him back if he were to compete seriously but its to be expected since he is a weightlifter and heavy wide bench isn't great for snatch. He could probably reach a 700 deadlift very easily. He could probably get his bench low to mid 4s as well but its not worth the sacrifice for him.
