The Spanish ski federation gave Muhlegg everything he wanted in order to dope his way to victories. Spain was just super happy to finally win something in cross country.
imagine being in elofssons position when muehlegg just goes and you the champion with all the training you´ve been doing can´t follow him. i can feel the frustraition!!!
People say that this run destroyed the career of Elofsson. But as you see Bjørndalen was able to keep it up for long time aswell, and he didn't get problems. Elofsson took gold in the next world championship, but he suffered with overtraining. It could be that he was on the knifeedge when it came to training, and if he pressed his body harder, it could go the wrong way so it would be hard to recover due to his low bodyfat percent.. Probably that's what happened here, he pressed too hard...
Imagine how good Per Elofsson actually was... :/ What Muehlegg did was such a disgrace to cross country skiing, and it made a lot of people simply lose interest in the entire sport...
It's not true that this race "destroyed" Elofsson's career. He won an individual gold medal in the 2003 World Championships. It might have hampered his chances in these Olympic games, though.
It did though, becuse after this Per trained harder than ever. His body could manage it to 2003, but after then it was destroyed. And all because of that Per felt that he needs to work harder if someone is so much better
Aaah i rember this 2002 olympic 30 km cross conutry. Johan Mulegg was fantastic and crushed the rest of the field. He had astonishing and very strong skiing. I wonder what happend to him because he never made any more signifiant results after this olympic...
Fakta er at Bjørn dælhie og alsgaard etc. trente mye bedre enn sine konkurrenter du må heller ikke glemme at Bjørn Dælhie hadde verdens beste ski i hele 90 tallet ettersom nordmennene hadde steinslip noe konkurrentene ikke hadde.
Mühlegg was bastard that was doped through the roof. I just wish Elofsson would have let him go. He broke 1 of the greatest upcomming skiers. Sadly Elofsson was to stubborn to let that Doped pig go.
Mattebubben The thing is that Elofsson probably thought that muhlegg would get tired at some point too. He clearly didn't expect that he could keep the same speed for the entire race. With that assumption, it is reasonable to try to hang on. But had he known that muhlegg was unbeatable, he should have gone for silver, and waited for muhlegg to get caught.
+Ben Dover Yeah... And the scandal with the Finnish national team during the World Championship in Lahti in 2001 was just a hoax, right? Nice try, mate. Try arguing that the earth is 6000 years old next time. Maybe you'll have some luck...
