#Gravitas | Italian boxer Angela Carini's decision to pull out of the boxing match with Algerian opponent Imane Khelif mid-fight has sparked a big debate on gender eligibility at the Olympics. Khelif, whose participation in the Games was permitted by the IOC and had divided boxers, was able to defeat Carini within the first 46 seconds, prompting severe criticism and fake news to circulate around Khelif's gender. She had failed a gender eligibility test at the World Championships, fuelling the criticism against her. While some called her "trans" and "biological male", others asked whether the rules of eligibility should change. If sports is about fair play, then who should be blamed for the injustice that both women faced at the Olympics.

Yes. Intersex conditions affect 1:100 people but it is rarely talked about and not recognized as another gender. Intersex conditions vary widely. Most societies make no place for them. They have no doctors for their gender. They are pushed into binary identities that, more often than not, are not by any choice.

Girls with Swyer syndrome have an XY chromosomal makeup (as boys normally do) instead of an XX chromosomal makeup (as girls normally do). Despite having the XY chromosomal makeup, girls with Swyer syndrome look female and have functional female genitalia and structures including a vagina, uterus and fallopian tubes.

Khelif has XY - male - chromosomes. He has testes and all the testosterones and other characteristics of a male. Except his gentilities is not typical looking for males, but that doesn't make him a female.

My understanding is that Khelif is "intersex," which means he/she has a chromosomal anomaly (maybe XXY). Intersex babies are often assigned one sex or the other at birth, so the birth certificate may not be meaningful. At any rate, if some women boxers are allowed to have elevated testosterone levels because it is "natural." then all women competitors should be allowed to raise their testosterone levels, if they wish.

Just because someone did participated something for years doesn't make it okay, because its similar with cheating right unless caught no one will know right. let them take the test again by independent body to prove they have XX chromosome if not remove them. Where does the system leave people who are born with one set of genitalia and different set of chromosomes? This is not even tested for at birth. Many times people find out when they cannot conceive. She would not be accepted as a male and is not being accepted and is being rejected as a female. I do not know if what I am about to say has anything to do with the Olympics, but it is an issue. With 1:100 having one of the types of intersex conditions, I would call for all of these people to have proper medical care and not put them in a male or female category. People are put in categories and not tested because “it could be devastating. However, the truth of matter is there is a third gender category. Males and females have unique sets of medical challenges while intersex people are ignored and put in categories according to either what the parents decide or in some cases what the doctors decide without saying anything.

Someone suggested to me that they need to create a group where althetes it would ne more fair to everyone and they would be equal in abilities. They have!! There is a group where the athletes test positive to the xy cromozone (have high testosterone), the men's group. Its always womwn who are dumped on in these issues.
