A parody of Leonardo da Vinci's famous fresco 'The Last Supper' featuring drag queens in the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris has sparked fury among some Catholic clergy and far-right politicians, while supporters praised its message of tolerance. The deputy prime minister of Italy, Matteo Salvini, who also leads the right-wing anti-migrant League party, slammed the performance as “squalid” on social media on Saturday, reports FRANCE 24’s Seema Gupta.

No. I don't thing it has anything to do with the olympics, but I'm not offended and I don't think anyone should be. All religions have been mocked in France and wether you like it or not, it is a right that is fully part of our culture. Again, I'm not a fan of it, it is not the place for it and it was probably innapropriate, but just move on.

I was raised Christian and have went through many periods of questioning but not once I have ever been even close to atheism because there really is no benefit to being Godless. I’ve also realized that all religions are not equal and Christianity is by far the best for the most people and that doesn’t mean only for Christians. Communities that are Christian based benefit everyone regardless if they realize it or not. If France has decided to antagonize Christianity then they will suffer the consequences.

Look, I'm a french christian as well and most of the people I know don't even know what The Last Supper (La Cène) is or what it represents. The few that are up in arms are basically parroting what the christian/conservative media are saying. What people are calling a mockery of christianity is nothing more than what France has always been about: it's about art, fashion, acceptance, transgression, kitsch, humor, all mixed in one single performance. The Last Supper has been made a parody of more than a thousand times by now to the point that it's part of pop culture in the same way Andy Warhol's work was, or the Beatle's Abbey Road's cover. NO ONE was being mocked in this scene.

And there is a difference between parodying it in an individual art, and portraying a parody of it in front of the world, representing France. France was so absorbed in its idea of freedom and beauty and love that they forgot that other countries have their own versions of love too, and that respect and understanding is an important part of love. France bombarded the world with their own idea of love, but didn’t show love to other countries.
