Olympus OM-1 Subject Detect Capture Print and Frame. Can Micro Four Thirds produce a quality result?

We had heard from a good friend about a Barred Owl in our area. We set off excitedly to see if we could find and photograph it. I figured the OM-1 with the 40 to 150mm F 2.8 Pro lens was most appropriate for this instance, I brought my entire kit with me just in case. I was not disappointed to say the least! The capture went just fine focus was right on I even managed some video hand held I think a tripod would have been a real holdback, as is often the case less is more. We went home, edited the Raw Files in Lightroom and Photoshop then made a print on our Epson 9880 using Epson Enhanced Matt Media and Ultrachrome Archival Ink. I cut the frame on our Morso Chopper using Michaelango Moulding from Chops in London ONT. I bought the glass locally from Provincial Glass just around the corner from me. I am absolutely delighted with the result.

@@bellasvistas3463 You bet! I purchased my OM-1 in Feb., but I haven't had a real chance to put it through it's paces yet. My previous camera is/was the EM-1 mark i, so all the extra features have presented me with a pretty steep learning curve. My next purchase will be the Zuiko 100-400 as soon as my camera shop here in Tokyo gets some trade-ins or returns (I can't afford to buy new). My company moved to a new building last month that is right next to an urban bird sanctuary so there are dozens of cranes, egrets, herons, cormorants and other birds water birds like that. I have a few shots with my 40-150 and they are good, but I really want to test that OM-1/100-400 combo.

Nice photo, and it was instructive watching you prepare the framing, which seems to require almost as much craftsmanship as it took to photograph the owl in the first place. I have an image I took of a blue heron in back of the Hotel Del Coronado that I’ve always liked, and your video makes me curious as to what it would look like as a print.

Thanks. I have been making frames for many years. I started out as an apprentice in 1965. We used a Stanley hand miter box, and I pushed brads in by hand to hold the print in place. @bellasvistas3463 Год назад
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I have used Matts and also acrylic straps adhered to the glass perimeters to have an air space enclosed. With Matt Paper I haven't had any problems the way I framed this print. My thoughts are that the print is thoroughly dry and offgassed with waiting a couple of days and using heat for dry mounting. I haven't had any issues yet with moisture. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Mike
