@@marcrodet4900 I was Olympus Principal Photographer and a European Visionary, so I've used every M4/3 camera made until the end of Olympus. I've literally used it for everything you can think of. I agree with everything you've said (re the battery door as an example) I can't tell you why but I LOVE this camera including its quirks

cracking camera Alan, worthy of the Pen name. i remember lusting after one as a wide-eyed 13 or so year old! i really think you should have put your massive Sigma zoom on it though, if only for comedy effect!! lovely mono image at 1:45 🙂 looked rather chilly there. we had no snow as usual here. we seem to have a micro-climate where we get surrounded by the stuff but are left untouched but still freeze!!
It was one of those rare mornings when, although it was freezing still, the lack of any wind combined with the sun made it feel remarkably pleasant! I would have liked that shot to have been pin-sharp on the Coot's beak, but hey-ho I was happy enough. I'm truly hoping the weather settles down soon so I can get out and about a little more.
Nice to see you as always Alan, with that cold weather it looks like you're going to need more than a cup of tea to warm up. That’s really a camera that I would like to add to my collection with a 25mm (50mm equivalent) for street photography, yes I’m old fashioned, to me 50mm is “normal”. BTW, great image of the lady feeding the pigeons. Be well and careful when walking on ice.
Yes Enrique I added a dash of whisky for good measure lol. We are both old fashioned then, as 50mm is what I still regard as 'normal' focal length. You may be relieved to hear that the ice has long gone!
Thanks for this excellent video. A couple of points: on lifting the articulated screen, the thumb grip on my Pen F fell off, probably because of too much use by a sweaty thumb. Anyway, once the residual glue is cleaned off, it doesn’t look too bad, and more importantly it makes it easier to lift the screen, as well as, in my opinion, making a more effective thumb grip. Note that this also reveals the only external screw, which might offend some! My second point is that I also use my Pen F with the M.Zuiko 75-300, and while it doesn’t look as good as it does with a small prime lens, getting over the visual imperfection does save me purchasing another camera and the challenge of flipping between two similar but not identical operating systems. I’ve also used it with the Samyang 85mm 1.4, with stunning results. Anyway thanks again, very well put together and presented.
Hello Martin and thank you for the kind words! I think I'm lucky in having both the Pen F and E-M1ii, the latter being more comfortable with longer/heavier lenses. However, there's no denying that a 75-300 can be used well on the Pen F! Now I know where to find the external screw as well - I just hope I never have to take it out!
I couldn't agree more Eric! However, given the financial restraints I suspect they will concentrate on the OM series. I hear the OM1 MkII will have the same sensor as the original so it will be interesting to see if changes are mainly cosmetic.
Hi Jason and thanks for commenting! I had the X-Pro1 a few years back and regret selling it, I loved the styling and the novel OVF/EVF arrangement. If I ever see one at an affordable price I could be tempted back to the Fuji family! The Pen F has found a place in my heart for sure and it's one camera I wont be selling.
I bought my Pen F after I bought an E-M5II (no Mk III back then) and wasn't satisfied at all with image quality and especially the IBIS (even after adjustment at Olympus it didn't work well between 1/25s and 1/100s, while it did very well with longer shutter speeds). I never regretted the switch, even though I did lose money in the process. Nowadays I would most likely go with an E-M5III or OM-5, but the Pen F is still all I need (and the 80 MP pixel-shift hi-res mode came in handy when I started to scan my 4x5 negatives). The EVF on the left (instead of in the middle) is a bonus I very much appreciate. Still quite expensive used, so I would not replace it if mine breaks (but if repairable for a decent price, I'll do that).
Most interesting Christian, the inconsistent IBIS performance isn't something I have heard about on the E-M5II or indeed other Olympus offerings. I would certainly consider an OM-5 but the chances are that prices will alter (used that is) once the OM-1Mk.II is launched. That is assuming it isn't just a re-branding of the 'Olympus' version as I believe it retains the same sensor.
@@photographyforenjoyment No need for a new camera at the moment, so I can sit and wait … ;-) I've bought a used E-M10II some years ago as my "disposable" camera (back then for a canoe trip on a lake), and it works fine as a backup camera. Yes, only 16 MP, and the IBIS isn't that great - but it works "as advertised", and it was quite cheap. I want a rather compact camera, and this would be E-M5III or OM-5. Or maybe I would switch to Panasonic if they come up with a smaller (and cheaper, but still weather sealed) model with their new 25 MP sensor, which would be exactly what I need (the Pen F would remain as my 80 MP "scanner" ;-)). The G9II is too large for my liking (and too expensive).
It's been mine since the beginning of last week and I don't want to be without it anymore. I shoot at the same time with the OM-D E-M5 Mark III, which is a bit more modern and weatherproof, but otherwise very similar. For wildlife then also with a Canon R8. Larger telephoto zooms fit a little better 😉.
Great to hear from you Elke and to know that you are a Pen F 'convert'. I have to agree that if (but I wont be investing!) I had super telephoto lenses, it probably would work a lot better with the lens being the part that gets gripped, or tripod mounted.
