Thank you Linda for your memories. You are not alone - the Muktananda diaspora is wide and scattered. You may be surprised to find old friends orbiting around Swami Nityananda these days on his travels and at his ashram in Magod. I am a very discerning watchdog, having been around since Gurumai and Nityananda were children and my wife Nu (seen in the video, and heard on the audio track) ...and I would give him 10/10 for obeying his Guru's command for the past 30+ years and faithfully preserving the practices in their original form without artifice or innovation. Baba did not lightly name him "Nityananda" and we think he is living up to his namesake.

Yes Rakesh, he did have that effect. I think it was because all our atoms aligned to a universal harmony for a period, and we were driven to recapture that state, despite all our plans for the future!

I loved that noon chant, Babu Rao played the harmonium during the year we were there. I hope this version does it justice, I think it's pretty close.

I am excited for you. My late husband and I visited Ganeshpuri 3 times and it is beyond magical. Our first trip there was in 1990 and even though we'd never met Baba (except in dreams), we could really feel his presence in that Sacred Place. Wishing you a truly memorable visit. Don't forget to journal your experiences as they happen. I wish I'd written more while I was actually there. It's amazing what manages to slip away.

@@lindaj171 hi Linda, I was there also in 90 through 91, what a great time and period of life! What was your seva? I worked in the 'arts & publication' dept but in the evenings I would often do seva and make espresso in the western eating hall. so many amazing memories

@@maha77 We were not there that long in 1990, probably no more than 5 weeks, using our vacation time from work. We arrived in early November. I remember after the first few days the weather became unseasonably hot for that time of year, and being from Canada, I wasn't handling the heat so well. I was doing seva in the kitchen prep area and feeling distinctly ungrateful as I struggled with the heat. Then I noticed there was a poster up for a 2 day Gratitude course. I immediately signed up knowing I needed to get myself in order! I emerged 2 days later happy and in a much expanded state. In typical Siddha Yoga fashion, first come the lessons and then comes the test. Or in this case, 3 tests. I immediately headed back to the dorm I shared with 17 other women. It had one washroom, with a toilet recessed into the floor. Thank God I had stronger leg muscles back then! There was no one in the dorm and when I went to the washroom I saw that the toilet was all clogged up and there was no note to indicate anyone had reported it. I spent the next half hour figuring out who to contact to take care of it. Then I decided to head to the restaurant and treat myself. When I got there, there was one piece left of the most delicious looking cake. I paid for it and headed for the outdoor seating area. One second it was on my plate, the next it was upside-down on the floor. Usually when you drop something you have some awareness of how it happened. Maybe you tripped or bumped into someone. But no, it was like it just jumped off my plate. My newly acquired state of gratitude was now becoming seriously compromised. So I gave up on dessert and went to meet my husband. We were given the task of shucking corn for the upcoming Thanksgiving Dinner. It was to be a typical American Thanksgiving Dinner (albeit vegetarian style) in the middle of India. We had tofu turkey, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and vegetarian gravy. We were shucking the corn next to some bushes that separated one of the major pathways from the outdoor seating area for the restaurant. Between us and the shrubs was a low chain fence. When I was done I stepped over the fence to get to the pathway. Somehow I caught my foot and catapulted head first into the bushes with my bum in the air and the skirt of my dress over my head. What a glorious sight that must have afforded both the people on the pathway and those relaxing in the restaurant area. All of my gratitude vanished in an instant (failed the 3rd test!) but my husband at least had the good sense not to laugh! I'm sure Baba was having a hearty chuckle from the other side though. You are right maha 77. So many great memories! Namaste.

Thank you Mary Anne, it sounds like our little video clip and chant triggered something or just reinforced a growing change of direction - it's so simple isn't it, just to remember to remember? But also the most difficult thing to do. I think that's why they say to make a time every day- same time, even 15 minutes to chant or meditate. We try to chant at noon, it usually works. Nu (the female voice on the track) meditates each morning at 7am before even a coffee! I am somewhat slack, but try late at night. It always feels right and I am sometimes surprised how clear my overview is as I wait for the thoughts to stop. If I could sustain that clarity I think I would be of more use! As it is my best flashes of inspiration for art come from that place. The rest are just ideas. We would do more mantra in public, but here in Australia they just want excitement.

​@@Vasudha8 Yes, we did meet in Melbourne ten years or so ago at the big theatre space called Gasworks. You were running around taking photos. Maybe at Ganeshpuri in '76. I'm Kim, I was playing tamboura during that tour. Nu is singing on this track. I prefer harmonium when I get a "go". I was a pro muso in another life. Learned by ear. That's why I think the rendition on this track of ONS is closer to the old Ganeshpuri Babu Rao version than the SYDA version that replaced it and which I resisted playing. It was a different wave form - more bumps. Even more bumps now. By bumps I mean all the ups and downs as it trails off. Smooth waves make for a better ride into Turia than choppy seas!

Did we come to your home for satsang? Nu's pic is so familiar. She has such a beautiful voice! I love this version of ONS. Yes I was certainly running around in those days! What a tour!!! And no we didn't hold a satsang at our house, we stepped aside for others who were keen to do so. No doubt we will keep in touch!

Thank you for your observations, I like to think our version of ONS is authentic 1976 and you have confirmed it!! We too would like to take our sons to Shree Gurudev Ashram but would not be allowed in because we are on the 'black list' of Westerners and Indians who supported Sw Nityananda in his years of exile. The terms 'sibling rivalry' and 'divide and conquer' spring to mind. Many of Baba Muktananda's old devotees would agree it is a travesty. Take your kids to Sw Nityananda's new Shanti Mandir ashram just outside Ganeshpuri if you wish to give them an experience of how it once felt to be welcome when visiting Baba's ashram.

Thanks, yes it's a very powerful mantra if you wish to break the thought barrier. And, it's portable. And ancient. And verified in its effectiveness by millions of yogis over the centuries. You may find that a small keyboard or harmonium helps if you want to try it yourself. There are only six notes. Easy! D/ Eb/ D/ C/ Bb... Bb/ C/ Bb.... D/ C/ Bb/ A/ Bb.... The string of syllables were designed to shift focus from the frontal lobes, to resonate the key energy centres between the heart and the crown and eject "you" into inner space. I think partly the secret is in the MMMM sounds that stimulate the vagus nerve particularly if you make the MMM sounds in your upper chest and lower throat. It never fails to give me a moment of peace away from the non-stop commentaries and multimedia productions my mind constantly creates! We chanted this mantra with schoolkids for their music class for one month. Parents shut it down on religious grounds... but the headmaster told us that schoolyard violence had dropped to zero over the period. It affected the whole school!
