I agree. My song selection is different, however. The Messerschmitt Twins, Stanlow, The Romance of a Telescope, Sealand, Genetic Engineering, Of All The Things We've Made, The Beginning And The End...
Absolutely. Very influential group many people don’t know just how many of these groups actually came out of the 70s Japan Ultravox OMD and Kraftwerk obviously go way back but all contributed to the 80s movement vastly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OMD have about 30 classic pop songs & I have them all on my playlist. Its just catchy unique gem after gem. They are one of the greatest synth pop bands of all time. True pioneers.
Love OMD. So many great songs. Souvenir, Electricity, Enola Gay are all great 80s tracks. Walking on the Milky Way is a fab 90s song too worth checking out. One of a very few number of bands who continue to make great tunes to this day. Punishment of Luxury and Isotype are two killer tracks from the last couple of years too.
Thanks a ton! A treat, one of my best loved OMD's tracks after my fav by far which is "Maid of Orleans". This group did 90% of gems. Love hugely the ton of their voices.
Speaking of Liverpool new wave, you gotta check out China Crisis at some point. Underrated AF new wave duo from around the same time. Their second and third albums (Working with Fire and Steel, and Flaunt the Imperfection) feature some of the genuinely sweetest new wave I’ve ever heard.
Oh yes, thank you, this song means so much to me. It was one of the few songs in English that my father loved... And congratulations for 120 k subs... 👍
This song still sends shivers down my spine after 40 years. The hook "I wanna know, I wanna know..." just glides up the scale and takes you with it. Yep, good comparison to The Pet Shop Boys. Good choice.
I seem to appreciate these songs even more after seeing you react. The best reaction channel on You Tube from what i have seen. You deserve so many more subscribers.
'(Forever) Live And Die' is exactly the right OMD song to review. One of the greatest MID instrumentals ever (arguably), with great songwriting and compassionate vocals to match. A pleasure to see you enjoying this.
“If You Leave” is my favorite OMD tune. Probably most well known hit of their’s here in the US! It is from the movie Pretty in Pink. Also another great soundtrack!
Hard to believe that "If You Leave" was written in one evening in extreme urgency. They had gone to LA, originally, to present a different song to John Hughes, who had called and asked them to write a track for the Pretty in Pink end credits. The night before John Hughes called them and said he changed his mind and wanted for their song to be in a specific scene in the movie and explained the scene to them. They realized the song they had spent months on and brought to present was not going to work for that scene so they took that evening and wrote "If You Leave" for the movie.
lol I’ve got this single on vinyl great group. Can’t talk about 80s without them actually helped bring music from late 70s into the 80s very important group
I remember going to my local big box music store not long after OMD dropped this album and they were playing something from it on their sound system. I was instantly enchanted! I asked the young clerk who it was. With an obvious aire of condescension and a look that could break glass she replied "OMD". Unfazed, I bought the cd. A fan ever since. ✌
Thank you, so much, Dereck! Your reaction meant the world to me! I'm so glad you loved this! And that I redeemed myself with this choice after requesting 'Tesla Girls'! 'Forever Live and Die' is the track that made me a OMD superfan, so I knew that since you loved 'Enola Gay' that you would have to love this, too! But I was a bit nervous after 'Tesla Girls' LMAO! But that one doesn't really sound like their others. And spot on with the ABBA comparison! Probably why I love them so much and this song, in particular. And they have many others in this wheelhouse, as well, in term of sound.
hi Dereck! two comments: 1) I hope that You do a reaction to "Live and let Die" (1973) by Paul McCartney & Wings the famous soundtrack of the homonimus James Bond movie 2) next Friday 22 finally will be released "Just a Notion" after more than 40 years that ABBA recording it in Voulez Vous sessions, but never released until now
OMD has DOZENS of amazing tracks. Idk why anyone would suggest you start with Tesla Girls, lol. I love SECRET, Milky Way, Maid Of Orleans, Electricity, Messages …. So many.
Dereck didn't start with Tesla Girls, he started with Enola Gay. And I guess you never fell in love with a song that others didn't? I selected Tesla Girls because when I saw the video for it here, it blew me away and made me cry, as I explained in the comments for the reaction video. I was unaware at the time that others didn't feel the same way.
Dereck, if you think their songs are great you should see them live. They are one of the best live bands and put on fantastic shows. Andy's dancing is rather fun and ummm...interesting to watch. They are headed back to the US next May for their 40 anniversary hits tour.
Dereck, welcome to our 80s ! Another song of a very similar style is : " Deep wide and tall " from Aztec Camera. Check it ! You don't will be dissapointed.-
It has nothing to do with ABBA it's omd pure and simple they is no comparison your listening to the most amazing band that ever was, and they are still rocking the show.
Dereck, i remember when I first join your channel you had 39k followers, because of Mylene you have now two times more followers. (120k). Congrats. You should do two Mylene reactions per week. You still have 50 official videos/live performances to catch up. Cheers up bro.
Derek love your reviews so informative. Have you not done OMD best ever single SOUVENIR one of the best ever synth songs of all time .please listen to I and review you won't be disappointed.
Hm....how ist it possible that all these guys never heart all these songs before? They are still being played on lots of radio Stations all over the world. Im in doubt, sorry...
