Quillian100 Music is my happy place too sometimes. Born in1962, and I sit in front of You tube many nights, before calling it a day, and remember my life before I made it so bloody complicated chasing all the things everybody else wanted thinking that was what I wanted too. I would be much happier trudging through the snow on a silent winters day.
It is impressive that a song of such quality and timelessness was one of their earlier works. This piece of music is something to be expected in the later trajectory of a bands progression and maturity. It goes without saying that any pop musician alive today would love to write & record even ONE song of this high quality. If it were released today for the first time, it would blow away the competition.
This is a wonderful song. The diction, enunciation and cadence of the words spoken is sublime. Nothing like the early and mid 1980's for great British music ! A thousand years of a Judeo/Christian base combined with a reasonably stable nation meant that a lot of very creative songwriters were nurtured...e.g. Joy Division, OMD, Visage, Ultravox, Spandau Ballet, Blue Nile, The The etc. Poetry graces the lyrics of these band's creative output. Their music resonates.
These guys were one of my favorite bands in the early 80's. I saw them 3 times back then, one memorable performance at the old Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Too me and I hope most others, their music is timeless.
Went to see OMD perform for the first time in Glasgow on Tuesday night and they were fantastic. It was a very intmiate gig and fantastic atmosphere. Andy McCluskey also has great energy on stage for a guy in his 50's. At the end of the show he said it was great to see a mix of young and old going to the gigs. Still going strong after 30 years..
am listening 27 years later, still as good as the first time I HEARD IT!! PURE CLASS!!!,lots of memories, very apt now also!! a real emotional song!! Spook

Great to see so many of us appreciate the music and style we had and even more so the amount of younger people. What would i give to go back for just one day. .
souvenir has to be on everyone's list. so romantic. dreamy. I mean, i really want to sit in that car with the cool wind, leaves, spots of shade, everything going by. great video. i can't separate the song from it.
Andy McCluskey stood on my foot and I yelled at him. Outside the Liverpool Empire when they were supporting Gary Numan on tour. Good Times!! This is my favourite OMD song. Thanks.
Duke1966 your comment is one of the best I've read on youtube regarding the 80's. It comprises some of the qualities of the era. Thank you. Souvenir is complex in its simplicity
Timeless OMD magic.Listening to those harmonic female chorus going oooooo... still gives me goose bumps.Still very uplifting tune to listen to.Classic stuff is always made so simple.
Living in Denmark, I listened to Radio Luxemburg to keep updatet with british 80´s pop, of which I´m still a great fan. I believe this was my first single bought. I loved the tune then, I love i now - I think I will still love it when I turn 90.
I loved this song. And still do. I remember buying it as a 10" single, as oppose to 7" or 12". Unfortunately when I was away with the military in the middle 80's my dad gave away all my vinyl records to his new girlfriends kids to impress them! OMD were/are hugely underrated as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for posting this video - fantastic!
This was from my parents generation but i fell in love with it two years ago when i heard it on a radio show. It's now my ultimate favourite OMD song and is one of the most played songs on my mp3.
i was a teenager when this was out and lookingt back i bring myself forward and wonder how we managed without mobiles and internet. i agree bring back the 80's - life was much more simple then!
i rang my local radio station in about 1987 and asked them to play if for `a lady in Ross. The lady was my first love, and i think of her when i hear this lovely song. Its a great song to lament on parts of your life.
Absolutely stunning! Poignant and beautiful. Architecture and Morality is one of my most prized and important albums from the 80s. So rich in associations...
i feel the same this song holds so much emontion in it to mee .my dad played these in the 80s i grew up lovin them all .the title is true aswell .this song has always sent a shiver up my spine n my hairs stand up ,it jus has so much magic in it .shellbrummy
omd are a great, me and my sister when we were very young kids used to watch our dads copy of the greatest hits video all the time was reminded of omd a couple of years ago when we found it in the attic now im very much into them great band!
Found links to this and "Secret" recently - never heard them back in the day. Both are absolute classics, two of the best tunes from the 80s. Thanks for posting!
wow what a blast from the past, one of the truly inovative bands of the 80's. In fact this was my first LP record bought with my first paycheck! Still got it after all these years. A&M was probably their best LP. Joan of Ark is my other fav. Thanks for posting
Aimless winter mornings roaming the hills in peckforton with my trusty German shepherd and headphones playing this track. Have to admit to smoking some illegal substances trecking through the snow and thinking it does not get much better than this. Great track.....the memories still linger...
for me the best song of omd. I remenber when i was a little kid with 7-8 years old (i was born in 1973) sound the weekends when we were going to the wood with my parents for a picnic, sound it in the radio that carries my mom, while me runing and playing in the woods.
one of the first band than i heard was OMD when i was 7 (1973 i was born) and thats masterpiece keep grab it in my mind in this time (realese in 1980 or 1981 i think) a lot of memories when i was a kid without responsabilitys playing in the woods evry sunny sundays!!!
OMD were and still are so musically talented. Also notice this song seems to get a lot more air play on the radio now. Everything they done was so original and I think they are possibly the best band in the 80's.
I agree with you all the way. Today's kids don't have the kind of music that brings joy, the kind that can lift your spirits when you're down. Everything now is all about attitude and flash.
love it. happy memories of travelling abroad and the only english speaking radio station i could get was a very feint signal from radio luxembourg in glorious medium wave. this song takes me right back there when i didn't have a care in the world...
This is the first music video i remember seeing ever , i was probably only 4. I loved the song so much (still do), it moulded my taste in music forever.
Its funny how back then I had taken for this for granted, though I liked it, it was just another pop song out of many from that time. Now it sounds so much better when compared to todays pop songs (or am i getting too nostalgic???). Its now one of my favorite tunes.
i think it's one of those songs that hits you to the core and is very personal, when i first heard it when i was a teenager it knocked me for six and it still has the same effect on me now. That to me is what music is all about. peace xxxxxx
the first time i heard this song i was 8or9 years old(a vinyl from my mother),i have 32 now,i listen to metal, punk, hardcore AND STILL LOVE THIS SONG(first time for the videoclip)
briilliant and melancholic.........beautifull and ethereal.........from the pioners of the british synth pop...an excellent song..........My fave omd album is ORGANISATION.....with beautiful songs like almost , statues , promise .
I was moved when Ashes to ashes put this in, I have past and modern memories from it.. anyone who remembers this doesn't need me to explain :) I liked how there was no-one else in the club either, really fits the song.
Great memories...that brought a tear of joy to my eye reading that. Those were the days when BT was a public service...not the Ripp Off merchants they are today.
wow i knew the series a ashes to ashes would do this,,80s revival!!,,i was 11 years old when this come out,,still have the album too,,i noticed visage fade to grey too on tonights show,,have the original 45 of that too,,i miss the 80s,,no music been same since.ty..
The 'instrumentals' on A+M alone are amazing. And Dazzle Ships deserves to be recognised! International is so moving, as is silent Running, Romance of the Telescope ..etc etc.
i fxxking love this song wit a big passion.reminds me of me being a nipper and happy times -my dad loves these so i grew up listing to omd,new order, depeche mode usual bands
OMD just take their musical skills to another level with this piece. It's such a nice sunday afternoon song. It's also a good video too. Well done OMD!
OMD always found fantastically haunting tunes and i always remember Depeche Mode and the Mobiles - Drowning in Berlin in the same vain, awesome stuff take you back wearing Adidas kicks and playing football every day lol
