To me it’s not even about Omega going to the moon, it’s more about them being on a mission that saved astronaut’s lives in the Apollo 13 mission by timing 14 second burns with the Speedy. Great video sir! 💯 Edit: if Omega could slim down their case sizes they could be even more of a threat with the co-axial escapement.

I own both and really like both brands. I think when comparing each brands watches to their counterpart I prefer Rolex in design by just a bit but my all time favorite watch is the speedmaster. Still have my fingers crossed for a 165.024 reissue from omega though. One of the best looking divers of all time imo. I gotta mention too I have had issues with my GMT master II's movement and have read quite a few people with similar issues on their 32 series movements. Haven't had a single problem with my speedmaster though.

@@Mega-zi7ys the fanboy mentality is really bad. Like I said before I really enjoy Rolex watches and even got mine at retail with a positive AD experience but the issues with 32 series movements should at least be addressed. I'm definitely with you on the 5 digit models though. Idc if it's a boring opinion I absolutely love the speedmaster and the submariner and would love to get a 14060 or 14060m. I just dig aluminum bezels. I get the pros of ceramic but I rarely wear my GMT due to the "bling" factor of the ceramic bezel
@Mega-zi7ys
@Mega-zi7ys Год назад
@@TheWutang1995 yes agreed. The alum bezels have a whole lot of character. They're like the 57 Mercedes gullwing . Especially when they ghost, they exude old world elegance. The ceramics are too shiny ang blingy for me. They're just like modern plastic cars. 😂 I once mentioned this Rolex movement issue to Adrian Barker and said it's in the Rolex forum. He immediately dismissed it as a made up story. Wtf. I think it's because they're trying to protect their interests.. Afraid resale might go down and they're gonna lose money on them. It's that bad. I no longer wear mine. For me it's straight out speedmaster professional 3861 and hoping to get a 321. I've had enough of this fanboy mentality already. Rolex AD are actually friendly , we both have experiences with them . Problem actually are the many (not all but many) Rolex owners' attitudes. Heheh it's become so pardon my saying..crass. I see many too many feeling cocky whenever they're wearing modern rolex ....they have this attitude like I can afford it and you guys can't look. 🙄 Anyway best regards to you
@jmso786

I don't think there's a universal "better" when it comes to Omega vs. Rolex. Both brands sell watches that are 1) well-built and designed 2) super accurate and 3) will last generations if properly maintained. There's only "better for you" as in which watch does an individual prefer and speaks to that person the most. Ultimately, the presence of both brands is a win for us since we have more choices.

Personally i think a one watch collection should be what you want and will be loved by you. Its a very personal choice. I've been trying to get a rolex since the tenth grade of high-school. Fall of 2011. Worked so hard and saved thousands of dollars. Went to the local dealer and got put on list and still have not got a call. I gave up after several yrs and bought some electronics and restored a vehicle to be my daily driver. Im still on the list and call them once a yr but yeah. Ended up with an omega and absolutely adore this watch.

First a good point for me is that both brands exits, I agree with you for almost all the points, I have both brands and I have to say that I almost always wear Omega, mainly for safety reasons. I don't like small watches so for me the sub and Daytona are too small, I went for sea dweller and sky dweller, for the speedy I went for vintage I have a 1969 pre moon watch and I love it. Also a way to go for a chrono and dive you have the sea master and PO chrono, not so many people talk about them but they are fantastic. Omega give you a lot of choice a lot of different materials (ceramic/titanium/tantalum......) they also offer some complications you can't find on any Rolex watches like tourbillon, and the stunning chrono chime .......

I have had an Omega seamster pro Chronometer ....... The bond one...... Got it in 98.......never any issues with it...... I would really love to get the NTTD titanium edition but I now have a family and can't really afford it....... I also love their 60th anniversary Bond seamaster...... I'm not a sucker for the bond association and would be happy if they made it without the limited edition reference, as that pushes their prices higher than their standard seamaster. I do love Rolex as well..... I think if I had one, I would be sucked in with the feeling of being exclusive..... And their Daytona is a beautiful watch....... I can never tell the difference between the Speedmaster series....... They all look the same...... But the Daytona with oyster dial and rubber strap is gorgeous......... Omega is like android, it's innovative, cheaper, and has a lot of choice, Rolex is a bit like apple...... A bit up their own arse, and think of themselves as being superior and charge a higher premium for their product ..... Very similar to how Apple operate. I also prefer the sales experience from Omega....... They don't judge you, and treat you respectfully even if you are browsing...... And when you have finally saved and ready to make the purchase, Omega will have stock to sell you....... Good luck with getting a Rolex from an AD......... I went into my local AD and put my name down to express an interest in a couple of models, the assistant told me the wait time can be up to 5 years....... So if I wanted one, I would need to go via Grey market......... The market is just full of hustlers trying to make a cut...... I can't be arsed with all that hassle...... All Rolex has is its exclusivity..... That's it....... You can't get one even if you have the money. They give them to celebrities as it makes them even more desirable..... Then the actual AD makes you feel that you need to earn the right to be given the opportunity to purchase....... Their design is subjective, their movement is inferior. If I won the lottery, I would like to think, I still wouldn't get a Rolex.......or rather, I wouldn't feel particularly safe wearing one....... Omega is far more invisible to hungry eyes....... I live in London, and i wouldn't want to attract a highly probable robbery.

Omega is a well kept secret in the industry, if Rolex collectors find out how great Omegas are, all of us will be subject to waitlists, and we not be able to get omegas at retail price anymore. For me, i have been a collector for over 20 years now, I own both Rolex and omegas, but the biggest difference I feel is in the purchasing experience. In omega, I have been treated like a VIP, entitled to get any watch I want, with an incredible experience. On the contrary, for Rolex, I practically had to suck up the my AD and practically beg the sales rep to sell me one of those gold Daytonas.

They know that it can take time to decide on a purchase, it can take two or three visits before you decide and they are cool with that and they are happy to chat with you and show you different pieces. When you decide to buy the service level go up even higher, serving you drink of your choice very elegantly. And are happy to chat with you even more after the purchase is completed. It really is a great experience doing business with Omega. After i bought my Speedmaster the purchase was completed everything was packed etc ready to go, the employee and me kept talking on the couch for 20 min or so about watches while i was finishing my drink. It just seemed so natural and not forced. I hope they never change their service.

Omega beats Rolex any day of the week and twice on Sunday! Better technology (co-axial escapement), higher certification standard (METAS), beautiful designs, build quality that’s at least on par with Rolex, exhibition case backs on many watches, not just one that is insanely expensive. NASA selected Omega after a battery of torture tests to go to the moon. Oh yeah, and you can actually buy them!
@5amarillo5
@5amarillo5 Год назад
Tudor gets METAS... so not so hard. Co-axial only makes your watch thicker and with shorter power reserve. Rolex offers a longer service interval, longer power reserve, same or better accuracy readings than any co-axial. Unless you are talking about the 321, the rest of Speedmasters are just expensive NASA merch with subpar cam-lever escapements when most refined luxury chronograph use column-wheel escapements.

I'm neutral on this. I've been fortunate to have had both. I would say go for the watch that works for you regardless of the name on the dial if you are going to wear it. If you're looking for a watch as an asset or something that may gain in value that is not intended to be worn then that's your choice and is fine as well. Personally I wear the watches that I have, they will get scratched and get the odd ding or worse but that is all part of the journey for me.

@@miabeatz80 I believe Omega use anti magnetic parts rather than iron cage. A good example for me is I tried on an Explorer 2. It’s a big watch (42m) but wears beautifully with a 12.5mm thickness. The main reason for me is that Omega is pound for pound the better watchmaker. The edge in innovation is one thing, but look at the Speedy Chrono Chime or the DeVille Center Tourbillon... Rolex doesn't make anything that comes even close to those calibers. Another reason for me as a vintage collector is that Omega has just more variety. They have some really cool vintage models like the Pie-Pan Constellation, the Memomatic, the Bullhead, the Jedi or the 1601 TC2 that are just so much more interesting to collect than anything Rolex has ever produced.
@majedalessa8376

Rolex is better than Omega because 1- Their bracelets are better and iconic. They tapper and have a quick adjustment, i.e.. Jubilee, Oyster, President, Oysterflex, you just can't go wrong. 2- Their watch cases are slimmer, which make the watch wear better and make it suitable for more occasions. 3- Rolex movements are known to be a workhorse that last many years. Moreover, they are easy to service and loved by all watchmakers. Their current movements have a power reserve of 70 hours, an accuracy of -2/+2, and they beat at 4 Hz. Rolex recommends a 10-year service. 4- Rolex is more consistent with their models. Almost all models are iconic and can be known to people with little knowledge of watches such Submariner, Datejusts, and even Daytona. 5- Rolex remained more fathful to the swiss watch industry by maintaining most of their movements automatic when others, especially Omega, relied more on quartz movements, which cheapened the brand. 6- One word, the Sea. Submariner is the most iconic dive watch period. 7- Rolex always uses the best of materials, and they never made gold plated watches, which Omega kept prodcuing till the nineties. 8- Rolex watches have better resale value and are largely more collectible 9- Rolex is independent while Omega is part of the Swatch Conglomerate, which, as a result they tend to go along with the shareholders even if they are not 100% in agreement. 10- Rolex was a brand of choice they did not need to pay James Bond producers to make the actor wear a Rolex contrary to Omega. 11- Rolex is the number 1 swiss watch producer with over 1.2 million watches per year, and their watches are in high demand that are not readily available. Omega is ranked at number 3 after Cartier.

Rolex is more refined, Omega produces chunky watches.. Omega is not as desirable as Rolex, seasoned collectors or general public tend to gravitate towards Rolex. The Co-Axial does not provide significant improvement on function or style (same service time or less than Rolex, accuracy is the same, shorter power reserve, thick watches).

The Rolex’s movements are well developed but they aren’t as advanced as omega in my opinion. Rolex refines thing till they will work for ever. Omega pushes the envelope in movement development. Rolex has developed much better marketing Most of your points are just marketing not having to do anything with horological value. Like Rolex making the most watches. I like both, but regarding Omega negatives, I prefer closed casebacks and some of their designs look a little cartoonish to me (some of the beefed up super cases from Rolex do, too). For Rolex, they are so controlling and have awful buying experience and so much baggage... Also, have you seen how Rolex puts ugly notches in the watch case now? They do not want you using any other strap on YOUR watch, so controlling. I won't even go into the latest Daytona design...

I agree that Omega is practically on par with Rolex. As you said, Rolex is king of marketing. I own the current Blue SMP300M and prefer it over the sub. I find most Rolex sport watches over-hyped. However there are certain Rolexes I do love more than omega. I'd take a DJ36 (fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet) over an AT (even tho I love the AT) because I find the DJ just more classic, timeless, iconic, and elegant. I'd take the explorer 2 over any omega GMTs since omega just tries to mesh their seamasters with a gmt function and it doesn't jive well. As for chronographs, I'd take the speedy over the daytona any day. Daytona is so overhyped it's ridiculous.

I love Omega and I thought you were doing a serious video until you got to the 10th category. What James Bond wears does not warrant a seperate category. Fictional movie characters come under watch marketing and Rolex trump Omega in that one. Being honest I think too much is made of a Omega having the moon watch. Rolex’s have been taken to the moon and it’s known that the Pepsi was a popular private watch with NASA astronauts. Almost any watch can be used in space. The mantle Omega achieved was that NASA chose the Speedmaster for its offical watch over the Rolex, after extensive testing.

If you open up the comments, people are free to voice their opinion. To me, the getting mugged disparity between Rolex and Omega is laughable. A criminal won't discriminate. All Omegas have cache and are desirable. So, if in the wrong place and you are wearing an Omega or a Rolex, you are going to get mugged. Some people carry deterrents and know how to fight but that is another OT discussion to dissuade muggers from stealing our stuff. Btw, that applies to all nice watches of several brands. Like many, truthfully, I stay away from Rolex largely because of the stereotype. Btw, I don't begrudge anybody owning one, always been a fan of the Submariner, and if driving a Lambo with gold chains...Its all good. Omegas are nice but the watch industry is very crowded and some good competition from many brands. The recently released '57 Omega Chrono is a compelling watch but one must ask is it is $9K compelling. Btw, if you want to open up the discussion a bit more, Tudor has come to the fore as a worthy competitor to Omega at its price point. Tudor versus Omega IMHO is a worthy conversation. Of course, many will have their preference or bias because high end watches are effectvely art with many ingredients and people have different wrist sizes and aesthetic preferences. For example what Omega watch has been as desirable to collectors as the BB58 at its price point.

And Omega is in inventory. Like yourself, I own an Omega Seamaster. Yes, I bought it for James Bond, but now that I’ve owned it for several years, I can’t see myself going backwards to Sean Connery‘s submariner. I’m in sales and I never wear the watch while working, but my sales person mind just drives me crazy, knowing that there’s a Rolex sales person that can’t sell their complete product line of watches. And, the consumer loses as well. Knowing that I can’t get a Rolex on any given day, just absolutely turns me off and makes me want to never buy a Rolex. If I can’t access the product, how in the world can I depend on the company being there for me when my watch needs service? Sound ridiculous? That’s what we said with Mitsubishi and Saturn cars, for example. Think of all the brands that have ever failed and have gone out of business in life and you’re stuck with the product. Bottom line for both watch companies regarding consumers… treat your prospects like customers, and treat your customers like prospects. If these were the only two watch companies on the planet, support, inventory and choice for Omega’s watches will always beat out the little edge that Rolex may have with quality.
