This was recorded live in Central Park,. New York City, 19 September 1981. But the original was recorded in 1964 with only acoustic instruments, then that master was reproduced, and re-released, by producer Tom Wilson with added electric instruments in 1965, without the knowledge of Paul Simon, and went to number one.

This is my favorite by Simon & Garfunkle! When I saw Paul Simon on his Farewell tour, the last song was Sound Of Silence, and he walked off the stage. I was in tears. It was so beautiful. They have extraordinary harmony together. Try "Homeward Bound" for another priceless harmony😊

The Concert in Central Park is the first live album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, released on February 16, 1982, by Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded on September 19, 1981, at a free benefit concert on the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City, where the pair performed in front of 500,000 people.

Hello again, Sarah. Both this song and Scarborough Fair were released during the Vietnam War, and were war protest songs. The Sound Of Silence was an admonition to people to speak out against the war (to not be silent). Scarborough Fair lamented the hardship on civilians caused by the war, and sending young men to die and never seeing see their girlfriends again. Thanks for the reaction. Love and hugs from America.

I have heard thru an explanation given by Paul Simon that "The Sounds of Silence" was actually written about a close friend of his who was blind, and he wrote the song in his honor and about him. However, it could mean a great many things to many different people, depending on their perceptions as you have described, and, or, their experiences and abstract explanations to those perceptions and experiences, and stances on causes, if so inclined.
@allanboyer2769

According to Art Garfunkel, it is about people's inability to love and express that love. It had nothing to do with anti Vietnam war protest.

@@SarahDengler I’ve heard estimates from 400,000 to a million people. It was a free concert in Central Park in New York City in 1981, eleven years after they broke up. That’s why the audience responds after they sing, “And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people, maybe more.” Definitely more that night. I’m so glad you’ve discovered Simon and Garfunkel! For those of us who were blessed to grow up with their music it’s a bit shocking and sad that so many adults (especially in America) have never heard them. It makes me feel old! You have many S&G gems yet to discover. I know you will enjoy them. Love your reactions. I hope all is well with you and yours.

After much thought, I recommend, from this same concert, the song "American Tune" not to be confused with "America" which is great in its own right. American Tune is/was a Paul Simon solo tune. Here, with Arthur joining in with his ethereal harmonies, makes it my favorite S&G song ever.

I love your reaction, dear Sarah. ❤ Yes. The song is a masterpiece. And the way the lyrics affected you are exactly the way they hit an entire generation of young people when it was released in the mid-60s. It articulated the core of what the entire rebellious youth movement of the times recognized, which was that the most essential qualities of love and purpose had been subsumed in the adult population's and corporations' drive to commercialize all aspects of then modern life.

There are so many great Simon & Garfunkel songs. My personal favorite is Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Live at the Concert in Central Park. This solo performance by Art Garfunkel was outstanding. His performance gave me chills, put a lump in my throat, and watered my eyes. Bridge was written by the prolific singer/songwriter, Paul Simon. The Bridge Over Troubled Waters album, won 6 Grammy Awards and sold over 25 million albums world-wide. This was S&G's FINAL studio album prior to their break-up (1970). The Concert in Central Park was a reunion concert for their NYC hometown fans attended by 500,000 people. I enjoyed your reaction. Please react to Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Live Concert at Central Park (1981). Thank you, Sarah.

"Sound Of Silence" is one of the most famous songs by Simon & Garfunkel. So many artists have covered it. But this is my favorite. I prefer the studio versions over the live. They have had so many hits such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water", The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.

Simon and Garfunkel are the original performers in 1964. This is being performed in Central Park in 1981. I believe they reunited for this performance after breaking up many years earlier. Paul Simon wrote the song. The original Studio tecording is much better then this rendition. That is probably the one you should have reacted to.

This is the original written and sung as Paul intended it. Do yourself a favour and listen to the studio version…..the orchestration is amazing and the harmony is the best as when they did most of their live shows they had been split up for years so their harmony is not as good.

That is not the original recording of their song. That was on the album Wednesday morning 3AM. This version was performed by the original artists, however it was live at a reunion concert in Central Park. Your comments are so accurate and do not undermine the power of the song. @brandonflorida1092
@brandonflorida1092 8 месяцев назад
@@christiandengler6689 There are no more copywrite issues in playing "Richard Cory" or "Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall" than there are with playing "The Sounds of Silence." The actual problem is that most reactors function by copying each other, so you get the same songs (or movies for movie reactors) over and over again. For example, for years and years, you got the same 5 Beatles songs reacted to over and over and the other 200 never. Then a few brave reactors became the first to react to many more from their catalog, and now it's common. As another example, for movies, for years I begged reactors over and over to react to Alfred Hitchcock movies and was universally ignored until finally a few brave reactors tried his movies so that all the cowardly, unoriginal reactors could then rush in and copy them, and now his movies are reacted to all the time (although it's still the same 5 movies over and over while the bulk are ignored).
@christiandengler6689
@christiandengler6689 8 месяцев назад
@brandonflorida1092 my comment was not specific to SaG but a general one. Again, the issue very much is a) the number of requests (if 500 people ask for one song and only a handful for another...the choice is clear), b) while the reactors usually do not chose based on other reactors they do look and see the response. A bad performing video is unfortunately not just a bad performing video but with a bad response the RU-vid algorithm will also limit the reach of future videos. Sarah is my wife, so I know how and why she is chosing the videos and 85% are requests from patreons, 10% from the comment section and the remaining 5% are my suggestions.
@brandonflorida1092
@brandonflorida1092 8 месяцев назад
@@christiandengler6689 No disrespect to your wife. I liked her reaction, but I cannot make community posts and have to put such comments somewhere. My following comments below are not about your wife, but about RU-vid reactors in general. You said "...while the reactors usually do not chose based on other reactors...." I disagree. I think this is exactly what many reactors do. They have little knowledge of the subject and aren't very brave. The result is that five songs by a group will be reacted to over, and over, and over while other songs by them which are at least as good will never be reacted to. The initial response to a reaction to a song that hasn't been reacted to before, may indeed be poor despite the fact that it's a great song, simply because the audience has never heard it before. However, once a few people react to it, it becomes popular on RU-vid. At some point, someone has to show some courage and react to something that isn't popular with Gen Z yet or no one will ever learn anything new. For many years, I begged movie reactors to do Clint Eastwood's "Dollars trilogy" and no one paid any attention. Finally, a couple of years ago, some reactors finally showed some courage and tried them, and now they are popular all over RU-vid.
@christiandengler6689
@christiandengler6689 8 месяцев назад
@@brandonflorida1092 not quite sure what you mean with your first paragraph, but I was not offended nor did I see your comment as an attack...and not sure what comments you are referring to. Tho again, I disagree and I do because I can see the numbers...clicks on a reaction are not built by a reactors audience but the wider RU-vid audience is responsible for the reactors decision as to which video he/she will react to. Barely anyone of a reactors audience will tune in for the reactor and will expose him or herself to new music, rather they tune in when the reactor published a video/song they know. I guess it is possible that the numbers I constantly see and the reactors we are in touch with handle it differently to the ones you watch, but what I described is the reality for Sarah and her channel as well as the other 2-3 reactors we are in close touch with.
