Thanks for the information. I recently did a Colorado mountain road trip of 237 miles with an elevation gain of 2500 '. Overall efficiency 3.84 m/kwh and 4.2 on the way back down. Really amazing as that is more than the 3.4 -3.7 I get around the country and limited city driving I normally do. Mainly used both auto regen level 0 or 2 when it got downhill steep or else cruise control for the flatter straighter parts. Very surprising and impressive regeneration they engineered in the Kia.

Thank you for this video. We have been trying to learn all we can before purchasing an EV and this was extremely helpful. You gave a very thorough picture of what a road trip is like in an EV.

I got about 20 miles/kwh on our Ioniq 5, but when I leave work it's about 2-3 miles mainly downhill. After we hit 3 miles it drops to 5 - 6 before ending up at 3.1-3.4 when we get home.

The only prediction that holds, it that range prediction is very hard to get right :D Both KIA and ABRP was not correct. For KIA this can be because you actually change your driving habit when doing roadtrips compared to daily commutes. So it can shift to be more positive when going back to commutes again. One general issue with EVs, its the focus on range. Its typical displayed very center of you attention, so we become hyper aware of it. We don't notice that the range prediction is also likely quite off on ICE cars as there range is often just a tiny number down in a corner.. most ICE drivers only react when the yellow tank light turns on :)

How do you get to the EV economy screen that shows per trip economy stats? The one where you showed the mi/kWh 24.3 bar graph. Been trying to find this in my EV6
@THEDRIVERDOWNLOAD

From Home screen, click on 'EV', then on the icon with three horizontal lines, then 'energy information' and then 'ev economy history'. It shows you the history for the last 30 drives.

Hi. Ioniq 5 EV. I believe the miles per kilowatt hour report reflects energy for motion not AC/Heat/accessories. The discrepancy looks like an incorrect estimate or higher/lower consumption. In another video from the UK comparing 5 EVs on a motorway trip at 65 mph, cold temperatures, headlights/HVAC in use, most resulted in close to 20% less range than manufacturers claimed the Tesla Y showing the best miles per kilowatt at 3.8. Oh, the reason for downhill high miles per is not regen as that is minimal but zero energy used while using gravity. Of course the car shows longer range as it has the energy stored to go the estimated distance. Thanks for the exquisitely detailed videos. Enjoyable and informative.

This is a promotion for the US market. Not sure where you are, but it may not be available in your market…

Another great video with a lot of good info and data…the visuals of the uphill downhill are appreciated too. Question about the app, does it provide backup or alternative stations in case a charging station is not working? Also, is the app programmable so you can try to stay above certain battery percentage projections? Example, if you input 20% would it show you a route where you never go below 20% before charging. I would want to see various routes and be able to see what is around the charging stations. I may pick a route that is a little longer or 1 more charge session based on the food and beverage and facilities options close to the charge station. Does the app give you this type of info too?

Yes ABRP can show alternatives for charging and you can set the SoC you would like to arrive with, seperate for chargers and final destination, (default is 10% on both). And it can also show nearby facilities at a charger... it really has alot of options to get into (like extra weight in car to account for luggage and family ect)

Curious if your review was of the basic or the premium subscription feature version of ABRP? In the premium version the possibility exists to connect the app to the car’s battery management system as well as to edit the reference consumption data of the car. Since it appears as if ABRP was roughly 11-14% optimistic I suppose you could penalize the consumption figure by that much. You could also save this as an alternate configuration “loaded” for instance, such that you could toggle between loaded and unladen profiles depending on who/what you’re carrying.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I did pay for the premium ABRP, but I was so overwhelmed by my first EV trip, that I didn't really use any of the premium features. I do plan to dig deeper into the premium features soon!

@@THEDRIVERDOWNLOAD Two days ago I was able to purchase an EV6 and yesterday after posing the question to you I was able to confirm by using an ODB-2 WiFi connector I had from another car and swapping into the EV6 that yes indeed ABRP was able to connect to the live data, presumably increasing the validity of the estimates and it all shows up live in Apple CarPlay on the nice screen of that car. I really should try to post a short video on this topic and share the link. If I get a chance I’ll do so.

By the way I used the LELink Bluetooth low energy ODB 2 adapter I used. Depending if you have iOS or Android devices you may find this more or less compatible with them and there are a variety of these type of adapters out there so by no means do you need to restrict your shopping to this particular one. Since ABRP works on Android and iOS it might be good to research ABRP and your situation and find the right ODB-2 diagnostic tool for you!

@Georgios Kouvaris I’ve had this same model ODB 2 LE link2 on my 2012 LEAF for a year now and there’s been no trouble. I’ve now installed a second one I purchased on the EV6 for two weeks now without any apparent issues. When the car is off this model of reader times out and turns off according to my understanding.
