Fun fact: another reason Enterprise Rent a Car is a big sponsor of the series is because their founder is a veteran of the ship. She is what the company was named after.

There is another video about USS Enterprise created by Animarchy that takes a historical narrative approach if you’re interested in that.

The displacement or displacement tonnage of a ship is its weight. As the term indicates, it is measured indirectly, using Archimedes' principle, by first calculating the volume of water displaced by the ship, then converting that value into weight. Traditionally, various measurement rules have been in use, giving various measures in long tons. Today, Tonnes are more commonly used. Draft marks, by showing how low a ship is sitting in the water, make it possible to determine displacement. Ship displacement varies by a vessel's degree of load, from its empty weight as designed (known as "lightweight tonnage" to its maximum load. Numerous specific terms are used to describe varying levels of load and trim, detailed below. Ship displacement should not be confused with measurements of volume or capacity typically used for commercial vessels and measured by tonnage: net tonnage and gross tonnage.

The operations featured here including Doolittle's were actually in 2019's Midway. This and "Dogfights" were my favorites on the History Channel.

Navy vet here. I've studied the Pacific theater in great detail. One of the best series on the overall action is "Kings & Generals, Pacific Campaign" series. That series gives great detail, step by step, land, sea and air action. Not just the large battles, but every battle. Highly recommend it.

I'm a volunteer at the USS Hornet museum. This Hornet is an Essex class carrier which was the next type of carrier built. But it carries the name of a Yorktown class carrier CV-8. A lot of these battles that Enterprise are in Hornet was right there. When they say that the carriers were away from Pearl on December 7th Hornet and Yorktown were the other ships. Cmdr Doolittle had his pilots practice at a airfield and he painted a line across the air strip the length of Hornet and where the pilots had to be airborne but the pilots are not familiar with the deck moving as they are taking off

Let me correct one detail: On December 7th, the USS Hornet CV-8 was doing his tests before being put in active combat in the Atlantic, Hornet was only transferred to the Pacific fleet after January to reinforce the fleet of carriers, the carriers that were in the Pacific fleet at the time of December 7th were the two Lexington class carriers (Lexington and Saratoga respectfully) and the two first Yorktown class carriers (Yorktown and Enterprise)

It'd be awesome to see a history of The USS Enterprises throughout American History. Pretty sure there's been a USS Enterprise since our Navy was stood up.

Brilliant Dan. Great reaction and a really fascinating programme. I struggled a bit with the narrator's movie trailer style and the constant music (kind of made it feel like it wasn't serious somehow) but i loved the details about the ships, guns and the battles. My favourite thing though is always the testimonial of the old soldiers, sailors and pilots. They are SO humble yet they saved us from such terrible, all encompassing evil in WWII. They always make me want to cry. What a bunch of bloody heroes❤

Yes, keep studying WW II. What you will find is that America came together as ONE nation. Not only the military but the general public as a whole. Possibly the last time as a nation that we were united with one common cause. Armed forces, factories and people donating ANY materials that could be used or reused. My parents grew up during the great depression and WW II, and taught us the lessons of doing with less to achieve a goal. They're not called The Greatest Generation for no reason. The videos are longer than this but the series War Factories shows exactly what Yamamoto feared about waking the sleeping giant.

Yorktowns (Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown) could carry the same amount of planes as the "heavier" carriers while being lighter because they were designed to be carriers. The other fleet carries before them were converted ships. mostly planned battlecruisers like Lexington and Saratoga. or even coal haulers like USS Langley. The first planned as a carrier ship was USS Ranger. And then came the "Super-Carriers" of their time... the Essex Class. Nearly 10 thousand tons heavier than the Yorktowns. 80-100 planes, 90 AA guns, 500 more crew, 30 THOUSAND more shaft horsepower,

I really enjoy your content. I'm a new subscriber. My first husband and father of my children was in the 101st and did 2 tours in Vietnam. My oldest son joined the Navy and was assigned to a submarine, the USS Scranton. I love learning about the history of the military and weapons etc. Keep up the excellent content and reactions. 😊
