You could use a small amount of plumbers putty as a gasket for the plate
@rjmfishtales
@rjmfishtales 25 дней назад
Yes very good point. Now if we can get the plumbers to fill their own crack haha!

Easy fix. Purchase some 1/4” starboard and gasket material and replace. I can make 6-8 of them for less than what Nucanoe charges you for three ($50).
@rjmfishtales
@rjmfishtales 25 дней назад
Yes starboard is good too. I will probably never replace them because it’s not bothering me but wanted people to know not to worry about it. Good comment Liz.

Aluminum is a good idea. There will be one issue that I see. The aluminum will, over time, start pitting from the saltwater, especially if not coated or washed off after the kayak is off the water.

The putting will match my aluminum seat lol. I wash pretty good after I am in the salt. But most likely I will probably never even replace them anyways. Someone did mention using starboard too. That would work at a thicker level. Would need to just use longer screws most likely.

I had a frontier 12 for the past 3 years and I loved it. Only bad thing I can say about it is that thing is a tank. Not having a motor made it extremely difficult to get up river. Other than that it was like a lazy boy on the river. I just traded it in for an unlimited this year. I’m hoping it’s just as good. Got a lot of goodies. Xi3, nice Garmin. Have you had any issues with the scupper holes?
@rjmfishtales
@rjmfishtales 26 дней назад
Glad you switched to Unlimited. It’s a tank. No issues with scuppers. I don’t plug them and leave them open all the time. Stay nice and dry with the tarpon drainage system. I run it into ramps, stumps and oyster bed. Lots of scrapes and gouges. So looks good. Haha.

The amount of water is so minimal it’s a non-issue.

Yes but I brought it up on the pro/con video and people are getting hung up on that tiny issue. There is nothing perfect out there. Maybe my wife just don’t tell her I said that. Don’t want her to be too spoiled. lol.

Love my Unlimited, but had a really bad experience with my NV 300 this past Friday. Have been fishing the Murrells Inlet shallows for founder and reds. Running into a mud bottom or some oysters now and then is unavoidable. I always cut power and try to back off rather than plow through. The motor started giving error signals several times when this happened and I'd have to get out or crawl over my Blackpack to unplug and replug the motor to get it going again. Once it even seemed to reverse polarity so that when I throttled into reverse it shot me forward onto the bank. Then it quit working completely so I'll likely have to send it back to California or Florida. Paddling an Unlimited a mile or more against tide and wind is a heart attack waiting to happen. Thank goodness I got a tow. Now questioning what I can do and if I need a pedal drive that will also take a motor, but it won't be a 300. Way too much torque for me. Have you had any similar issues with your Torqeedo when fishing the shallow marsh?
@rjmfishtales
@rjmfishtales 26 дней назад
You can always get the pivot drive from Nucanoe as an option. Here is the difference between Newport and Torqeedo. Torqeedo did this motor first and they just copied. Newport is a bigger company so wasn’t much Torqeedo could do. Here is the kicker. People see the price point and much cheaper number and jump all over it. It’s cheaper for a reason. Not saying it’s completely back but…..Torqeedo internal parts are stainless steel and better quality. Newport not so much that is why it’s cheaper. I would only use Newport in fresh water. Still a strong motor but now you see the difference. So short answer is no. I was just in Murrells inlet yesterday and didn’t stop for anything. I have the motor guard on it and plow my way through oyster beds and mud. Yes paddling the Unlimited against current is not fun. Tracks well but it’s like paddled a brick wall. This is only my opinion on the motor, giving what I know. I would send back and be like why am I going forward when I hit reverse and what’s up with all the codes. Can this not be used in salt??????!!!! Send me a new one!!!!!!! Or we will start talking bad about it all over the internet. Haha.

@@rjmfishtales Yes, I'm pretty bummed about this. Bought the 300 for range, so I wouldn't run out of juice and get stranded...How ironic is that! Going tomorrow to look at an Outback and other options, though I may just sell the motor and battery and take that hit on the Torqeedo.

@johndavis5662 let me know what you do. I like my Hobie as well just my knees can’t do it all the time that is why I utilize the Nucanoe. Still I like the Nucanoe over the Hobie as primary vessel.

@@rjmfishtales Will do. One knee replaced here and the other bone on bone which is my reason for motorized.

@@rjmfishtales Got Newport on the phone and they helped me get the motor running again. Good customer support! Seems to work fine so I'm going back out tomorrow. Unfortunately, they do not offer a rock guard. I also looked at an Outback and will probably try one on the water later this summer because I like the option of three power options: paddle, pedal, power.
