This was a relatively short hike at 15 miles, that had the weather been better, would have provided some spectacular views. Starting at New Found Gap we hiked to the top of Mt. LeConte, stayed in the LeConte Shelter overnight and then hiked back down to the Alum Bluff trailhead.

Really amazing guys...in that weather no less! I'm 70 years old and did my first Great Smokies hike yesterday (Tuesday, 8/27) to Laurel Falls. I know it's considered easy but I was somewhat winded and very wet from sweating. Nonetheless, I loved it!. Next up for me, Grotto Falls, then some hikes that don't involved falls or climbing. Best of luck to y'all in future travels.

Do you need to make reservations to stay in the shelter? Planning hike for next summer

Yes, all shelters in the Smoky Mountain State Park require reservations.
