27 YEARS!! For 27 long years I thought I knew what this scene meant and only now has it changed. What was Sephiroth doing at the northern crater in OG Final Fantasy 7? This theory will hold FF7 Rebirth spoilers and is big ol' waffle about the promised land. What is the promised land? What context does Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Remake add to it? Who is omni Sephiroth and what is a social memory complex? More casual Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth theory that I hope you guys enjoy. These are definitely story points to hold in mind entering into part 3.

At the end you ask if your highest purpose is giving crackpot conspiracy theories about a video game, I get it's a joke right, but seriously this is a great way to enlighten people with concepts they'd otherwise never come across or think about. You're essentially acting as a more effective philosopher than even a college professor because the subject matter is more relevant to so many more people.

I've often felt that the Promised Land is your own personal ideal afterlife. Within the Lifestream, yes, but it can vary in appearance from person to person.

This is a very spiritualist belief anyway, I've found :) I love how they incorporate real-life morals and beliefs into these games. Like with Final Fantasy X, the religion of Yevon was HEAVILY based from Buddhism :) and I'm pretty sure MOST modern spiritualism comes from Buddhism too :)

32:52 if anything, for me, one thing this does is certainly makes me intrigued and fascinated to see Sephiroth's Remake version of his Safer/Seraph Sephiroth form :) and when you asked earlier if your theory was "stupid"? No! I thought it was a brilliant theory on the spot, mate! You think even more than i do about these things! I've got high-functioning Asperger's Syndrome, and i think a LOT, but you really do your homework. You're a clever bloke, please don't ever think your ideas or thoughts are stupid in any way mate! :) i was impressed listening to all your ideas, always am! Also, I DO believe that this Sephiroth IS post-Advent Children Sephiroth. He's an evil genius! It's SO sad, replaying Crisis Core and OG FFVII, seeing how kind Sephiroth was towards Zack BEFORE he snapped in the Nibelheim incident, even giving Zack clearance for time off so he could go visit Aerith in Midgar (oh, the irony!), and I'm sure he opened up to Zack a few times, even chose Zack to try to retrieve Angeal from Banora when he refused to go himself, because he knew somewhat thay he could trust Zack not to betray Angeal, due to Zack's loyalty to him. The story is just too beautiful

Was anyone else starting to come around to Roche? I wonder if he still has a role to play in part 3. Him, Glenn and Clone Cloud could all be a part of the omni-Sephiroth complex. Is the world of chaos really Seph's promised land and the Spitz (dream) timeline Aerith's promised land? Damn the concepts in this game are so good!

I was initially put-off by Roche, back in 2020, playing Remake for the first time. I was jarred by the addition of his character, and while questioning “why,” he began to speak, and it was too much. After beating Remake, and understanding what they were doing, I learned to appreciate Roche as over-the-top fun. By the end of his role in Rebirth, I loved his character, and was a bit emotional about his fate.

I think we will definitely see him at least one more time at the crater. But after that? I'm not too sure if he has any more significant role to play in the main story.

Honestly, Roche's part in Rebirth and his eventual joining with Jenova's lifestream makes me think of FF9's Terra and Gaia. The idea that Terra(Jenova's Meteor) is growing stronger as it falls deeper into Gaia's core and absorbing the souls, until the two distinct lifestreams merge and become one... just feels right for FF7

I feel Roche was a cool addition, but they didn't fully flush out his role.. I get it.. there are so many characters and only so much time to invest in each of them.. as importance goes Roche is more than Wedge but less than Biggs

My idea has usually been the promised land is like... home. It's just when you've entered a state of self actualization and enlightenment. For Cloud or is finding himself, his family, and what he cares for. For Aerith, it is the time she had with her friends and loved ones. It's her boundless love and Devotion.

So cool that a big moment in a game over 27 years ago, had so much subtlety to it, that it can have such vast implications this much later on. The promised land is entirely that. Subtle and never fully revealed. I've seen some say it should be an actual location in part 3. But I think it loses the purpose that it serves. Asking what the promised land is, is asking what liberation is. Everyone will land on something different and that's pretty damn awesome imo

This really added a dimension of depth to Sephiroth that really serves his character and role in the story justice. I would love if the third part of the game actualises some of the concepts you've explained, it would be the kind of 'villainy' that is far from the typical storylines that we see about good vs evil. Another great video!

For the longest period of time, I had just thought of the Promised Land as something that was not real. So: either a conceptual "paradise", or a fable. I'm glad that this remake trilogy has at heart to explain these concepts so that we get a clearer understanding. It would be a cool outcome if it was about self-realization. Regarding Jenova not being that present in this game, it feels like the Devs are setting her up for a bigger role in the third installment. She's more fleshed out than before (chapter 14 & Queen's blood) and yet remains mysterious enough. While, on the other hand, we keep seeing Sephiroth all the time. It seems like Jenova could still become the big bad villain that we finally destroy in the third game. Hence preventing Geostigma from wiping humans from Gaia's surface.

Hey Pez the line 'a father's dream accomplished by his son' had major significance in my interpretation. You'd think at first that he's just talking about rufus and president shinra, but I actually think Glenn is the father, talking about Cloud, and Sephiroth is the son talking about Hojo. Would love to hear your thoughts on this:)

Isn’t the edge of creation where we see sephiroth just his promise land? He’s destroyed the planet, consumed the lifestream and now he’s just staring into the cosmos as a god. Where he’s standing could be on top of the meteor

Ello mate❤ According to you and one of your earlier episodes uploaded, technically anybody can have a promised land if there will is strong enough -if I perceived it correctly, your theory alluded to like a state of mind type deal? I mean, I think that’s a pretty good assumption that I hadn’t thought about until you brought it up but makes sense, especially if the last ancients slaughtered shouted “you will never make it to our promised” land or something like that. We will never make it there because we aren’t them! We can’t be what they were. Honestly, when Aerith said that Shinra wasn’t the real enemy, I’m inclined to believe her even more since they were technically doing exactly what the ancients did, but in their own way, terrorizing everyone as well as the Planet in order to harness the lifestream

Number 1, you have no higher purpose, enlightenment makes us all equal, higher purpose creates inequality, it creates lower purpose people. I see religious and spritual people fall into this all the time. They raise themselves up, they cant do that, they need to lower themselves down. Seperate ego from self, people just cannot do it. Itsblike trying to adapt to an existential lifestyle while knowing to truly be existential is to not even know what existentialism is, as soon as you have that knowledge you become corrupted and the ego and knowledge of existentialism become inseparable. Its a moment of realisation that anybody, regardless of their knowledge could be living a perfect existential, spiritual life, BECAUSE they are ignorant. You should never worry about your individual "higher" purpose, because in that pursuit you lose self, and self is all we truly have.
