It will be cool to make unicycle, something like Honda U3-x.

That was my thought as soon as I saw the paired wheels. I have a Focus Designs Self-balancing Unicycle, but it has to keep moving forward to balance. With the paired wheels, it could be nearly at a standstill. There would have to be a set of IMUs or accelerometers ninety degrees to the fore/aft sensing set, but that's "trivial" in my opinion.

that tip-proof omnidirectional motor cycle of Batman is looking more and more like a real thing. Conceptually, all the different functions you'd need already exist

I do not think anyone is actually asking about 2 wheels, I think everyone is asking about a seated configuration with a less square, more linear setup where there is less non-wheel space on the vehicle. A bike in most people's minds is about ratios, not wheel count, a speeder bike has no wheels, but maintains that width to length and rider ratio. People wanna ride around at high speeds on a super precise and maneuverable scifi bike. They do not care whether it has 0 or a thousand wheels, especially when you consider that mecanum wheels are wheels of wheels, and therefore more than two anyway.

Thanks for confirming my theory! I was watching my daughter pilot the Rainbow 6 Seige drone and she was strafing it sideways, when I saw it only had two wheels I knew it would need an extra one on each side to actually function like in the game. I did thing of a small wheel with roller at 90 degrees on the small tail with a motor to counter the twist of driving just two mecanum wheels and allow sideways movement.

Interesting... Could this be used for electric wheelchairs then? 🤔

I have an Airwheel S8, the only seated Segway clone type transport on the market that has no handlebars. Airwheel sells a similar non-tandem transporter that has handlebars and weighs 75 pounds. The S8 weighs about 30 and is a lot easier to handle. My use of the S8 as a mobility scooter is working quite well, but the S8 is getting harder to find and so far has demonstrated a limited lifespan and near-zero manufacturer support. I have two working units and one complete chassis that's non-operational. As a result, if necessary, I'd have two pairs of motors-in-wheels similar to the mecanum skateboard. Unfortunately, I'm concerned about four points on a surface that's not always going to be planar. Three wheels removes that problem, as do two. What do you think about a side-by-side wheel arrangement such as the S8 but with a pair of mecanum wheels on each side? Uneven surfaces would not be as great of a problem, I believe. Currently, leaning fore and aft controls direction and speed. The seat post has a self-centering possibly elastomeric pivot with a hall effect sensor for turning. Completely hands free makes this a great mobility scooter, especially for grocery shopping, but if it had paired mecanum wheels, control from tilt and seat would be problematic. Additionally, the motors would have to have external bracing for the shaft mounting on the outboard wheels. It seems it would become a ground-up redesign. On the plus side, ten inch wheels!

How well are the rollers on the wheels holding up to abrasion?

Pretty go so far after some aggressive driving on my pavers and in the street.

So with two you can't actually turn, just slide it seems. Still losing one axis of control if I'm understanding correctly... However would make an awesome tricycle!

I knew I was forgetting something! Yes, you can still turn in the configuration I showed at the end! If you spin the right wheel faster forward than the left wheel, it rotates CCW. If you spin the left wheel faster forward than the right wheel, it rotates CW. The same goes for turning in reverse. You could make an omnidirectional hoverboard with only two wheels or a weird looking e-bike lol

You know what, I would have to be like those motorcycles with 4 wheels, like 4MC, with fancy suspension, coz otherwise every time you lean one tire would lose contact with the ground. lol It would scary as heck, coz it would be like ridding on marbles. lol

I think I have an idea how to go about this, it's a little complex, but I think my idea will allow that type of bike to do all that.
@ProtoG42
@ProtoG42 3 года назад
You could drive the individual rollers or design something that would lock and unlock the rollers.

@@ProtoG42 my idea it involves a redesign somewhat fat hubless bike wheel, the other half of the design is a little hard for me to explain, but I can see it doing both regular bike and omnidirectional

If not a bike, make an Omniwheel board like the OneWheel.
