The ending of the Mari fight makes sense when you think about it. The entire reason that Mari's bad knee is emphasized so she doesn't join the party in Headspace, in reality is just because Sunny couldn't bear to see Mari die again in a fight, even in his fictional world where she could come back to life easily. So of course, when Omori and Basil, the two characters present for the incident, actively assault and defeat Mari, even a projection of a made up version of her, it'd be a huge trigger to Sunny.
The whole Mari "fight" is just pure evil You have to fight the memory of the protagonist's deceased sister And during the fight, she doesn't even attack She just... Smiles and heals you. Like she always did. And then, after you defeat her... You relive the most traumatizing memory of Sunny The day he saw the hanging corpse of his sister with Basil by his side And the final jumpscare It's also interesting to note that Red Hands and Flower Crown share the same attack pattern and design

Why is Basil so busted? He gives health, can give energy, can give juice, can distract, can do massive damage, can give anyone any emotion, can go into 3 tiers of emotion, and the release energy just revives everyone!! Who said this guy couldn't fight?
He kinda had to be that way because you're taking on the same bosses that you would normally face as a 4-man party, with just Omori and Basil. Basil had to be the combination of Aubrey, Kel, and Hero otherwise the boss rush would be just too hard with only 2.
The only thing I wish was different about the friends battle is I wish when one was defeated they would become toast and hero would make homemade jam to revive them with low health. This would mean hero would have to be taken out first, making the battle much harder

Things I noticed in this video: 1- The most obvious, playable basil. Things I noticed about Basil -Basil has tier 3 emotions - Basil is OP... both a healer and a damage dealer + can restore juice and debuff.... Obviously for balance purposes, since we can only play as omori and basil. - His follow ups are: Vent (Omori and Sunny attack, both become angry), Mull (They become Sad and gain juice) and Comfort (They become happy and Heal) - The release energy is a full heal + restores all juice, then does one attack. According to a reply, it also causes a regeneration effect for the rest of the battle! 2- The fight with the friends. Things i noticed: - They are not the real headspace friends, but clones created by the headspace Mari and Kel? - They have many of their normal moves! So this is how the enemies see us? - (30:49) THEY KNOW THE KEL NUKE OH NO- (And it's a dull attack!) - The song has leitmotifs from Tussle among the trees, aka battle theme of the normal forest (30:46) - (31:30) What the- It also has the airhorn part of "My time" by bo en!... (and according to a comment, it also contains a slightly altered version of the chord progression that comes after) kinda unsettling knowing the bad ending... In Omori, does it represent the friends or the headspace? 3- The fight against Mari... - Trauma aaaa - She doesn't even fight, she velas you - According to another reply, the song that plays when you fight her is a Waltz, since they were Mari's favourites. - (38:37) Mari's theme, aka "By your side" (It first plays when you meet headspace Mari and Basil) -In this fight, the vines from Basil's skill "flower crown" for a moment has a rope texture aaaaa- (39:51) - Clearly makes reference to the whole Sunny-Basil shenanigans. - OF COURSE IT WOULD BECOME CREEPY- You are basically "killing" the Mari clone, however, as it was said in deep well "Your dear sister Mari. You could not bear to see her die again, so she was confined to the safety of a picnic blanket"... Of course, seeing her "die" again would be triggering for Sunny, specially since he (Omori) and Basil are the ones doing it. - Small Sunny and Basil afraid sprites- oh boy, they seem super traumatized. 4 - Aftermath: - The friends don't seem to remember, but Omori clearly does (considering he's basically t he God of the place.) However, it did happen (In the dream world) since Basil feels some sort of deja vú. - Omori probably lost the control for a moment. It seems he didn't expect that to happen, and tried to take control ASAP. He also tried to reverse the damage by making the others forget what happened (maybe even including Sunny but idk) so they don't speak about it. - Omori's reactions. He is clearly mad and sus of everyone. He probably thinks Basil did it on purpose, so was probably thinking of sending him to the shadow real- I mean, black space. Also he is either annoyed/mad/suspicious of Headspace Mari's actions. -Mari saying "I will always be here for you I'll take care of you as long as I am here... and that means forever!"... Man, it's so sad... Probably Sunny trying to convince himself Mari is still with him (Or just the ghost Mari shenanigans) Tell me if I missed anything worthwhile or if I made a mistake!
@@notabot10912 Weirdly enough, I was relieved once it smashed to black and white. At least at that point, I knew to start bracing for the jumpscare. Until then, I felt so *tense* making OMORI and BASIL attack a MARI that was *healing* us with that slightly off key piano playing in Heaven.
SPOILERS BELOW: I think what hits 10 times worse with this new content is the fact that by the end of the Mari fight you face the exact same enemy you'd face in the normal route, thing is, you manage to beat there, in here, you DON'T, it's a heavy reminder that Sunny will never go past his trauma by shutting himself into his own mind.
Also in the normal route, it’s a slow progression to seeing the hanging body. We aren’t exposed to it right away. Here, we’re violently and suddenly yanked away from a happy fantasy and are exposed to incredibly disturbing imagery in the blink of an eye.
Man, just _imagine_ the first-time Blind OMORI player playing the Hikikomori Route first like NicoB did, and coming to the end of the Mari fight... I think this pretty much smashes you in the face with a hammer as to what happened to Mari. Oh, you get hints about her through the Hikikomori Route, especially when you first enter Black Space and you see her laying in that bed of flowers, but it's never really... mentioned much. There's that box that spams "It was an accident..." over and over again, but again, you still don't really _know_ what happened to her. Imagine running into THIS with the "Hanging Body" during the Mari fight, without having seen the Sunny Route first....
That's what fascinated me about the Hikikomori route so much, everyone sees it as the "bad" route because obviously not facing the truth isn't a better ending, but it's seen that way largely because everyone chooses the true route. I think the point of the HellMari jumpscare when you first open the door was to discourage people from opening it for Kel, but it just wasn't that effective because you only see it for a split second. If it was executed better and more people went Hikikomori first, so many people would instead play a route where they get more of the RPG aspect of the game, more of Blackspace, and yet so many unanswered questions about the truth their first time.
@@TheAdvertisement I can see your point, but to be honest, I'm not sure that was the intended purpose of it. You can tell that on the whole, the Hikikomori route is less polished. The content of it just... isn't as interesting, all taking place in Headspace where the characters have little depth. And there's even some parts in the last day where you can tell they didn't put as much time into the sprites and technical aspects, either (for example the Vertigo, Cripple, and Suffocate skills don't have that waving effect that the rest of the 'fear auras' do, there's a bunch of glitches that can happen with the second member of your party, etc). Having a player go through with that route _first,_ while it may work for a completionist player like NicoB, is not a strategy that works better for a casual player. I'd imagine that after finishing the Hiki route, a lot of players would think the game was "just alright" and not see the point of going back for the true route at all (especially when the game is so long). I can also see it making the true route experience worse for a casual player with how much Headspace content you have to repeat between the two routes. It already feels like a bit of a slog going through Headspace and waiting to get back to the real world's main plot, but that tedium would be even _worse_ if you'd played those parts already in the alternate route.
@@TheAdvertisement I’m planning on replaying the game with my sister and am going hikikomori route first and then true. I hope that route doesn’t spoil the true route. That said, I don’t think it was poorly executed. I think most cringe from fear and open the door, so the fear is still present, but people are hopeful cuz they know Kel and want to trust him. It’s more so that their care for Kel overwhelms their fear.
@@Violet111 I haven’t played the hikimomori route yet but I think casual RPG fans don’t always feel the need to rush to get to plot. Especially when the game purposefully makes it so that the headspace feels preferable to how sad the real world is, until “one day left”. There’s less incentive to go down the other route after true ending cuz what else would be there left to do? Either way, playing through headspace after either route will be kinda annoying since you’re just not going to get much new content anyway.
@@Violet111 I can see your point in terms of the fact that the Sunny route is for people who want to see the story and the good ending, aka most players, while completionists will more appreciated the challenges 1 day left in Hikikomori provide. But in terms of polish, what? No what are you on about? Hikikomori's one day left has tons of cool stuff and all you've listed are minor details that don't really mean much. And then there's the repetition part. First off wouldn't it be worse to do Hikikomori second then? Since the only in between you wouldn't have experienced is the boring-ass chores, while in the Sunny route you get an entire Faraway Town section. And even so you're treating Headspace like it's... bad? What? You can not like the Headspace RPG aspect of the game as much as the story of the real world and Blackspace and whatever but don't act like that applies to everyone or that that's what the devs had in mind. And it still doesn't change the fact that the point of the Hellmari jumpscare is to scare you. The choice you're given to either open or not open the door for Kel is clearly given in a mandatory scene for a reason.
It’s interesting how when the heart rate monitor appears in mari’s fight the line is just completely flat unlike in basil’s fight, I don’t know what it means but it’s an interesting detail nonetheless
[ SPOILERS BELOW ] Personally I believe it’s a reference to Mari being dead. It also could be a reference to the ending of the Hikikomori route, which is only able to result in a death if I’m correct? Thinking of it like that, it kinda makes this Boss Rush seem like it’s already the afterlife in a way. And the fight with Mari furthers that idea. The fight, also, isn’t just déjà vu inducing, but a big reference to the same fact that “Sunny manages to suppress the truth once more, at the cost of completely losing himself” as the OMORI wiki stated, and that he hasn’t fully gotten over his trauma. As for the déjà vu I claimed? Well… I guess you’ll have to take a look at THE TRUTH/BlackSpace photo album. Depending on which ending you got in the Hikikomori route can also change the perspective of how the player views this Boss Rush and the Mari fight. From what I’ve read and watched, Basil ends up dying in the Hikikomori and neutral endings regardless. It’s really only confirmed in, like, two I think? But with the idea that Basil dies unless confronted during the sleepover suggests that if he would have killed himself regardless if the sleepover happened or not. Sunny, however, can’t move on unless he takes the initiative to either leave the house or confront his demons. So while Sunny/Omori can either choose to die or move away and never confront the truth, Basil ends up dead anyways. This further suggests this idea of the afterlife. However, it could also be suggested that Sunny’s sudden appearance in Basil’s life in the three day span triggered Basil’s emotions which would lead to him attempting suicide. This entire concept is based on the assumption that either this Boss Rush exists after the ending or the Boss Rush is a convoluted precognitive-like dream that’s trying to warn Sunny of the real world consequences. But since Sunny lucid dreams, he ends up covering the warnings, unable to fully hide it during the Mari battle, which results in the route’s endings. It can be further idealized that the entirety of Headspace is a warning directed towards Sunny that is covered by Omori and his bright world, only unable to be hidden from view when faced with the fears he has to overcome to find Basil, who drags Sunny deeper into Headspace and further away from Omori and his colorful world. The further Basil drags Sunny down, the less Omori can hide. And when Omori realizes he can’t stop Sunny from going down with the bright world of Headspace, he tries to convince Sunny to pull his friends out of Deeper Well by showing him what will happen if he continues to dig deeper, which is growing up, getting jobs, and not having time to play anymore, which ends up in them forgetting about the missing Basil because it is Basil who brought them so far and Omori doesn’t want Sunny going any deeper. That’s why there’s the toll booths, why Mr Jawsum is so far up, and why Jawsum gets angry during his fight, because Mr Jawsum, and the all the other bosses Sunny had to battle, serves the same purpose as Omori does: To shield the truth from Sunny by any means necessary. But Sunny (with the help of Mari) doesn’t end up forgetting Basil and, rather, it seems he’s only more determined to find him, which ends up pulling Hero, Kel, and Aubrey from maturity and back to childhood. After this, Omori comes to decide that he cannot shield Sunny anymore and tries to scare him away with Blackspace. However, Sunny goes too deep and ends up finding STRANGER, which overlooks Blackspace and contains things that harbor the truth. The neighborhood area in Blackspace furthers the concept of containment, because I believe it was once a section of Headspace where Sunny could go and visit the other children. However, the neighborhood began to look more real each dream so it ended up being taken away. And when Basil learnt the truth, he had to be contained. Though since Basil was a strong part of Sunny’s life, it became hard to keep him away so STRANGER kept him close. Though, bits of Basil would help guide Sunny in the form of a Shadow. In the end, Sunny can’t handle the confrontation and wakes up in the real world. However, he doesn’t stop trying and Omori, at a loss for options, decides to directly confront Sunny. Redspace further hints that the entirety of this sleeping world is run by Omori and by sitting on the throne of hands, Omori successfully pulls Sunny from the truth. I also feel like Headspace Basil is something different. He’s more sentient and aware than the other Headspace characters. I could go on to compare shoulder Demons & Angels to Basil and Omori, the logic behind Headspace and Real Mari being the same person, the reasoning behind Mewo’s absence in the real world, Kel’s entire character showing next to no change in personality being both a good and bad thing, Real world Kel, Aubrey, and Hero and how they represent the three emotions of OMORI, with Sunny more obviously representing Fear, more logic behind the idea of a convoluted precognitive lucid dream, the smaller idea that Basil actually shares dreams with Omori, why Sunny/Omori has more expressive emotions, and a whole lot more that I’m not going to talk about because I’m tired of typing.
Yeah, it's a younger Sunny and Basil. He's flashing back to the moment the two of them were in his backyard after she died. You can tell, because Sunny's Afraid portrait is identical to Omori's unused Afraid Portait.

The background on Mari's fight probably indicated that she was in heaven, or that she was perfect (maybe perfectionist) as it was the same background used for Perfect Sweetheart battle
For someone who doesn't like to fight and has presumably never fought before, Basil's attacks are scarily powerful. I wonder if his power comes from his importance in the dream world, both as Sunny's best friend and as the person who drives the main plot of the game.
Of course they do, lol. It was the most popular strategy in the community after the game released on steam. And after their boss portraits were leaked earlier this year, people were openly saying how much they wanted the Kel Nuke to be cannon 😆 It's honestly such a cool nod to the community 😎
No one seems to have pointed this out: in the end of the fight with mari, you are fighting as sunny, as shown by the names. I guess that means that during the fight, the image of the hanging body was shocking enough for sunny to snap out of all that repression nonsense
What's interesting though is that the text "What will OMORI and BASIL do?" remains unchanged, while "Omori attacks!" Is changed to "Sunny attacks!" Maybe it's further emphasizing that Omori is the one in control? Or maybe it was just an oversight, but it seems odd for them to remember to change the attack text but not the other text?
@@WasabiKitCat This is just a guess, but it could be because OMORI does seem to be in control of SUNNY (since this is the hikikomori route and all that happens with SUNNY disappearing), but SUNNY is still trying to fight back, which is why it only says "SUNNY attacks (or tries to calm down)" and not OMORI. but just a guess
Imean yeah, Mari did something that wasn't really something that Sunny scripted. She can't fight and has a messed up knee, so he probably feels bad hurting her when she's helping him so much.
The way I see it , like headspace , omori is simply a shield against traumatic memories. Now , beating Mari to death with basil probably brings back some memories where bad would be an understatement and will break that shield causing the entire headspace and the facade of omori to collapse.
@@Funkyskep Mari does not have a messed up knee. The reason why she doesn't fight with the group is that Sunny couldn't bare seeing her die again even if just in a dream. The bad knee is merely an excuse made by Omori to further repress the truth.
I like to imagine that whenever Mari uses her fruit picnic "attack", she's really force feeding Omori and Basil with fruit. As in, just fucking *shoving* the stuff down their throats with a passive-aggressive smile, because she's actually low-key pissed at Sunny and Basil for faking her suicide, and this is her way of venting her anger at the boys for it. Mari: Open wide, you little shits. Sunny and Basil: *terrified choking noises*
TBH, MARI low-key has a lot of lines I read as angrily passive aggressive: "Look at OMORI. He's being so brave. Yup, so brave!" 💀 Justified, and hilarious, IMO.
--Possible spoilers of the normal story-- It's funny how the things were out of control for a few seconds, i like to think that Omori wasn't expecting the fight against the clones, since that was a plan of Mari, so he continued normally until they defeated the Mari clone, and like a comment here says, that was a trigger to Sunny to relive a part of that night in a nightmare, the time enough to Omori recover the control and finish the nightmare, no matter how much Omori controls Headspace, he isn't perfect and he wasn't expecting that
Yeah, the scariest part is that they transform into their in real life selves instead of the dreamspace ones, it kind of scares sunny showing how he can't fight back his nightmares by shutting himself down in his own "paradise"
Thats because the kel nuke strat was the most famous one after the game was out and when the leaks of the Boss fight appeared people were saying that It would be funny that kel nuke became canon.

[UPCOMING CRAZY THEORY + SUNNY'S ROUTE SPOILERS] Something tells me that the Mari we are seeing on this battle is not just a simulation, but instead the spirit of Mari haunting Sunny (Or even WS Mari) as a complete opposite of her parting event at the beginning of 2 days left on Sunny's route. Also, this new added content and more important, the new afraid sprites of young Sunny and Basil kinda confirm my theory of "Afraid" emotions as a direct reaction to the concept of "Mari's true death", which would imply that the afraid states of Faraway Hero, Aubrey and Kel are foreshadowings of their reaction after Sunny's confession at the end of the Good Ending.
I almost forgot to mention this... But the fight against Aubrey, Kel and Hero would be a parallel of that event on blackspace where they beat down Basil. Maybe a projection of the idea of confronting your friends side by side with Basil, while this party uses against you two most of the strategies you've been using along the game.
Counterpoint: It isn't Mari's spirit, it's just a mental manifestation of Mari linked to how Sunny actually remembers her, and due to how much he loves her it's much easier for her to resurface in a comforting way than it is for the rest of the Truth and Sunny's repressed thoughts are. That's why on two days left we see her, it isn't her spirit, it's just Sunny's own mind trying to encourage him to remember through Mari. Edit: Also why on two days left, if you didn't go outside and therefore didn't force Sunny to remember Mari was dead, Headspace Kel just leads you, because Sunny hasn't made any connection yet to his old memories of Mari. It'd be pretty stupid of ghost Mari to only appear if Sunny's gone outside. And why only after four years?
I made my own idea of what may have happened and why the idea of MARI's fight exists in the first place. Mind, these are just my thoughts and ideas, trying to make sense of the new content. Beware this is gonne be somewhat long I guess. It is in my belief that MARI is behind the idea of fighting against OMORI as a way to help SUNNY get close to the truth. HEADSPACE was created for the purpose to bury any leaks of the past and MARI's "death" surfacing from BLACK SPACE. OMORI would act as a literal God, created by the DREAMER, SUNNY in this case, for the purpose to hide anything related to MARI's “death”. Anything that could even show once crumb of hints would be obliterated to the depths of BLACK SPACE or even the ABYSS. This includes resetting the HEADSPACE cycle and getting rid of anything and anyone who even comes remotely close to the TRUTH. BASIL wasn't spared by OMORI, as we see him getting killed off almost everywhere in BLACK SPACE, to hide the TRUTH. OMORI does this as a way to "protect" SUNNY from the truth. This action was not well favored by ABBY, STRANGER and likely DADDY LONGLEGS as well either, but trying to help SUNNY within OMORI will ultimately get them banned. This has happened to ABBY before, STRANGER attempted to make SUNNY remember (and succeeded/failed in SUNNY/OMORI Route) and DADDY LONGLEGS, likely to avoid total banishment, kept things about as vague as possible to steer clear of any suspicions. OMORI is extremely strict about how HEADSPACE should operate. *Anyone* close to finding out about the truth gets banished with no hesitation. Anyone except for MARI. Out of all characters, it seems to me that MARI is the closest that attempted to get SUNNY to the truth, accept her "death" without the consequences of banishment. MARI is too important for SUNNY and OMORI has no choice, but to keep her in the game. It's how MARI in her black and white appearance was able to give her final goodbyes without interruption. They love MARI so much, more than anyone else, so the thoughts of banishing her was undeniably out of the question. This gives MARI the leverage to help SUNNY overcome the TRUTH. Where ABBY and STRANGER failed. MARI is not allowed to fight, and OMORI defends this by the idea of MARI having broken her knee during practice, but it seems to me he just doesn't want to see MARI getting hurt in general, regardless of other accidents she went through. MARI can't get close to SUNNY without irritating OMORI about fighting alongside him, so what would be another opportunity to get close to them? This is where the new BOSS RUSH comes into play: I believe MARI managed to convince KEL about the idea of using clones of themselves for OMORI to fight. This especially gives her more opportunity, as now BASIL is involved. With BASIL acting alongside OMORI, as they always have been together. It wouldn't be far off to say that perhaps BASIL, too, was in on it with MARI, which I’ll mention in the end. The new BOSS RUSH is the perfect plan to expose SUNNY to the TRUTH, especially now that BASIL is involved. BASIL was the only character, that likely found the TRUTH and got saved by OMORI. I feel like BASIL still remembers even after the supposed "RESET" of HEADSPACE (will mention in the end). This is MARI's attempt to get close to SUNNY, by roping BASIL and OMORI into her fights and expose the nature of her "death". The STAGE is set, and MARI is ready to fight OMORI and BASIL. Or rather her CLONE is ready to fight. Once again, MARI is probably not allowed to fight with her own “body”, as any hints of pain coming from her can potentially trigger SUNNY in a bad way. MARI assured the duo she is in fact doing fine behind the screen and that the person in front of them is merely a CLONE. That should be enough for OMORI not needing to lift a finger and put a stop to this and continue with the BOSS RUSH. The FIGHT with MARI starts and it’s going well so far. What I noticed during the FIGHT of MARI compared to HERO, KEL and AUBREY FIGHT is that HERO, KEL and AUBREY each have a sprite of their facial expression showing hurt emotions, when attacked (indicated by the grey color). MARI does not change her facial expression when she gets hit, probably to avoid making OMORI stop the FIGHT (again, any expressions of MARI hurting is an immediate no-no for OMORI). MARI does nothing but heal the duo. She does not attack or anything whatsoever. Once the duo got too close for comfort, that’s when she unleashes the traumatic memory: her hanging. We are brought back to a memory four years ago that OMORI desperately tried to bury to his best ability. That one memory that cannot come back, that is not allowed to come back, meant to be hidden forever. OMORI banished any hints of showing any past memories resurfacing. He was good at his job. Eliminating anything and anyone in order to “PROTECT” SUNNY. So why did this part of memory come back? How did it manage to resurface now? Despite OMORI doing such a good job hiding evidence? This is how MARI’s plan works, and OMORI can’t do anything about it, he didn’t FORESAW this. She is the only one who can guide SUNNY without getting exiled. MARI knows OMORI can’t do anything about her plan by doing this. MARI knows she can’t get in deep trouble, because of how much SUNNY and OMORI loves her. They wouldn’t do this to her, OMORI wouldn’t do this to her. It’s good coverage to secure her safety. And exposing her “death”, her hanging in front of them was a success. It is a harsh method doing this, but a necessary one. They try to use CALM DOWN and other methods to get out of this situation as much as possible, but in the end the hanging MARI gives them a scare attack and the screen goes black. And we are brought back to the hallway of BOSS RUSH. It’s likely that OMORI managed to regain control and stop the FIGHT before it got too out of control. He is back with HERO, KEL and AUBREY with MARI and BASIL back in their seat. Interacting with BASIL and MARI, both may intentionally pretend nothing happened, despite that definitely something happened just a few moments ago. 42:30 especially gives me the idea, that he acts like he doesn’t know how he got the FLOWER CROWN and swears he didn’t do anything with it. MARI’s last sentence in 42:46 promised to be always being here for him. I see it as a coverage, as a way to stay close with OMORI, with SUNNY and continue to try push the truth about her “death” to SUNNY in the future. The TRUTH needs to be shown to him. He can continue to stay ignorant about the TRUTH and live on with his life, but dark pasts are bound to leak. SUNNY can’t hide forever, even if he grows older, the TRUTH will eventually resurface at some point. And MARI will make sure she will succeed. Where others failed. And this is the end. This is my idea explaining the new BOSS RUSH content. I can’t guarantee I have seen every content of OMORI, even very little of BLACK SPACE 2, if it has any more conclusive hints or evidence. This is just my idea trying to make sense of how a very specific horrific memory managed to get out of hand so easily, when even telling just few words of the TRUTH from ABBY, BASIL and likely many others were immediately banished with no mercy from OMORI. Any thoughts?
I think her expression doesn't change when being hit because she's already sad. I don't think it's like they'd make 12 extra hurt sprites for the other emotions, is it?
@@FireyDeath4 Pay attention to KEL in 30:58, here we see him in a SAD emotion, and still has an extra hurt expression when hit, regardless of emotion. Once again, it is still odd, how the others have hurt expression (regardless of emotions), but MARI doesn't.
It does make sense, the theory that actual Mari can enter Sunny’s dreams is supported by those orchids and it would make sense mari would do anything to help sunny, even scaring him for a while
@@MasterIsabelle It can go both ways! It can be the passed late GHOST MARI helping SUNNY or still just HEADSPACE MARI w/ no relation to the real one. One stays true to the game‘s core and the other would have it‘s themes be surrounded around supernatural and death rebirth stuff. One explanation has the lore stay true within the game strictly to maladaptive & lucid dreaming. The HEADSPACE MARI would still be a dream MARI SUNNY made up, but that MARI sought the TRUTH (or would have known from the beginning like ABBY or STRANGER) and is a last resort attempt to force SUNNY to accept the TRUTH. The other explanation would revolve around supernatural and all that paranormal stuff. In this case it‘s the real GHOST MARI who passed away due to the accident and tries to help SUNNY overcome his guilt, by helping him around in HEADSPACE and also in REAL WORLD with whispers of encouragement. Both ways works imo, since i see people prefer staying true to the game‘s core or wish to expand their possibilities by adding paranormal themes like ghosts.
@@petruciosxd1374 No wonder Air Horns make the entire party angry. It reminds Sunny of how he didn't wanna keep learning air horn to the point he threw it down the stairs, making it go off and making Mari fall down the stairs while they were fighting. Now this is how you write an emotional and gripping character. We should be taking notes from this.
I don't know if anyone else knew about this, but if you look closely, during the Mari fight Basil's attack "Flower Crown" can be seen shown as a rope instead of vines for some split seconds...
Interesting note: Basil also has a third form of emotion, and it's almost the same as OMORI's. The only notable difference is that Furious has one directed out and one directed in.
Huge spoilers for Omori . . . . . . I think its kind of neat how only bosses can feel 3rd tier emotions, but so do Omori and Basil, cool foreshadowing for the end of the game
Also, the only character to feel all emotion in 3rd tier are Spaceboy, Basil and Omori And people noticed that Spaceboy seem to be the character Sunny project himself the most
The sprites in Mari's... second... phase... if I can call it that, are of the real world versions of the characters, this is especially evident with Sunny.
This battle does not make this clear, but Basil can swap out his fourth skill based on whatever charm he has equipped. All of the swappable skills he can use that I've found are listed below: No charm/generic charm- Body Slam (Cost 40/Deals damage that increases with more ENERGY) Cactus Hairclip- Cactus (Cost 40/Deals damage based on DEFENSE and HEART) Tulip Hairstick- Tulip (Cost 40/Deals damage to all foes based on OMORI's STATS) Gladiolus Hairband- Gladiolus (Cost 40/Deals big damage that ignores DEFENSE. Always hits right in the HEART) Rose Hairclip - Rose (Cost 50/Acts first, reducing all foes ATTACK. Heals all friends for 40% of their HEART) Flower Crown - Flower Crown (Cost 75/Deals big damage 4 times) While Rose sounds really cool, I would not recommend using it or Body Slam because fighting Mr Jawsum is frustratingly annoying without a strong offensive skill on Basil. Since Omori always goes first he is stuck killing the bodyguards over and over while Basil has to deal all of the actual damage to Jawsum. Tulip is OP as hell despite it's confusing item description. I'm still doing tests to understand how it works but it seems to include stat buffs from certain emotions like the happiness chain, so get Omori to a Manic state and it hits extremely hard. I have seen this move hit enemies for 4k+ damage each on groups of enemies.
i used a happy build with vertigo on omori and tulip on basil. Absolutely ripped through the bosses. A total 180 from my first attempt where i was spamming snacks and it took me 20 minutes to get through jawsum, just to lose at slime sisters. I also used release energy for the full restore. i would try to time it to the end of the battle so i would be fully healed for the next.
Something I immediately noticed with the theme that plays in Mari’s fight is that it’s the same theme that plays during the reveal trailer for Omori on switch. Not the part where Mari is humming the duet but when there discussing about OMORI the game.

i like how you made the selection sound effects sync with sweet heart's bgm and began the fight when the main melody striked and sweet heart went ohohohoho. that was cool
1. I love to compensate for balance that Basil is absolutely busted (which kinda makes since as headspace basil/stranger are the only ones capable of breaking through Omori's grasp in headspace) 2. The fact that in their ultimate attack Basil and Omori hold hands AND there's a heart shaped attack during is so precious I would die for them they're so cute 3. Basil's emotions are so good he looks cute, derpy, or miserable there's no in between 4. Kel nuke 5. That Mari fight was straight cruelty 11/10 would get emotionally damaged again
As many people stated before, the vines become rope for this fight and something struck me even though it was 100% obviously. Red Hands = Sunny pushing Mari off the stairs, Flower crown = the staging of Mari’s death via rope.
spoilers: I think one of the most interesting parts about the Mari fight is how you go from a state of absolute control to a state of none. It perfectly represents how Sunny and Basil are completely and utterly kidding themselves, and how this entire dream world is just a cover-up. But in the final moments of the fight? They can do nothing. They aren't in some fantasy world where they can overcome anything that comes their way. They are facing their mistake, their sin, and their regret, without the shield of the dream world to protect them. That final moment with the hung Mari is Sunny's eternal punishment, not just for killing his sister, but for not being able to overcome himself and live the rest of his life.
@@frozenmana yeah It has sense. If you think about It Omori red hands represents Sunny pushing Mari down the stairs. Flower crown represents Basil hunging the body of Mari.
@@ethanhinton4549 Yeah, but thematically, it works better. Considering the move is supposed to be a representation of him hanging Mari (the same way Omori's red hands represent Sunny pushing Mari), there should be a darker theme to it's name. Thorn crown would actually be perfect, because like you said, it links back to the torture of a holy figure, which fits with what Basil did to Mari (who was seen as perfect).
Spoilers for when you fight Mari: Once "that part" of the fight comes, you can see Basil and Omori's avatars change to reflect their appearances in the real world.(Most likely once they both turned around to look at what they'd done to Mari) Spooky stuff.
The part in the friend battle theme were it just transforms into a "My time" remix omg You can hear it at 34:13 for exemple put there are over times like 36:52
Some things I would do to make the friends battle harder is one, tempeh can use items too (limited use of each) Hero uses Homemade Jam to revive his toasted team mates Hero is knocked out and gets revived by one Life Jam (One time use) They can also use their own release energy (Low Hp on All) Finally they can also use follow ups with each other

SPOILERS something i noticed in the last part of maris fight is that sunny' and basil's icons look younger like when sunny committed manslaughter and basil framed it as a suicide
During the Mari fight when she is angry, she is yelling at you condescendingly. Then you get angry and push her, killing her just like in this fight. Then you get taken back to the time when it really happened and no matter how hard you would try to calm down you would still be scared until Omori comes and repressed the memory. The Mari fight is like a perception of that night before the recital, then taking you back to that time and eventually leading you to just have to forget what happened.
