Jack N The President DID launch the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative. He just didn't come up with the idea of older men mentoring younger men. But then... neither did Robert Bly. Bly's point is that he is talking about something a lot older than himself. Neither one of them claim to have invented the idea of mentorship. They just each created their respective programs to accomplish similar goals. It's silly to call Barack Obama a liar for claiming to create a program he actually created. Are you going to call Robert Bly a liar because "Big Brothers of America" was founded by Ernest Coulter in 1904? There have been numerous programs with this aim around for a long time. And even Ernest Coulter didn't invent the idea of a big brother- or a father- or of an older man mentoring a younger one.

I do understand that you're nit-picking because you've run across someone who's not as gullible as Obama fans. Obama's shown consistency in his idea of mentoring: supporting juvenile delinquents and petty thieves who get themselves killed. Too bad he didn't do any mentoring in the direction of rational behavior, non-aggressiveness and honesty. Now go on your way and know that you've been schooled, Troll. :-)

No, dude. It just means he agree with it. Look at the statement. He said " It reminds me why we started the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative in the first place"-- starting "this initiative" is the thing he is taking credit for (and, incidentally, he says "we"- not "I"). Then he says "because we need to do more to help young people go as far as their dreams and hard work will take them, no matter what they look like or where they grow up." That's just exactly what Bly says. That this is something that should happen. He didn't say "because I invented the idea of helping people." He says "I'm doing this program because I think people need to be helped this way." You are seriously nitpicking- but in a way that doesn't pay attention to grammar. I'm not sure how you reached this conclusion. I think you might be the one who needs more school. (Why are you calling me a troll? Do you really find it odd that someone would respond to a statement you put out?) Besides, if you really think that claiming that young people need help to follow their dreams is equivalent to claiming you invented mentoring-- why are you not criticizing Robert Bly or "Head Start" programs or any other program or person that says the same thing? It doesn't makes sense to say that Obama is lying and Robert Bly isn't. Here's a parallel for you. If I look out my window, or read an article in the paper about homelessness, and I say "I think I'm going to start a program to help feed the homeless, because everyone deserves a free lunch." And I start, say, the "Defender's Team Foundation" to feed the homeless. And I put out a Xmas card to the people who have contributed, saying "I started this foundation because I believe everyone deserves to be fed, not hungry!" ... Does make me a liar just because other people have also done this? I mean- is that such a unique idea that I am stealing it from Soup Kitchens across America? No. Am I even saying anything false? Not at all. I'm just agreeing with them and contributing in a positive way to making the world a better place. If I said "I started this program because I am the only person who has ever thought of feeding the homeless" that would be a lie. But saying that this needs to happen is not the same as saying I invented it. Get it? Geez.
