The Pope Audio BAX2020 500 Series EQ offers simple yet highly musical tone-shaping with subtle analogue character.
Originally developed by the legendary Peter Baxandall in 1952, a Baxandall EQ - unlike a traditional shelving EQ - exhibits a more gradual slope with lower phase distortion and a smoother, more natural response.
With each model ('Classic', 'Plus', 'Extra' and 'Beast') based around a different selection of DOAs (discrete Op-Amps) and an optional output transformer, the BAX2020 can be used for applying top-end sparkle to a mix, cleaning-up low-end mud on sources, or adding a touch of vintage character to otherwise sterile digital sources.

“Both review models worked superbly on a whole mix and while the difference between the Classic and Extra versions is subtle, it becomes more obvious on louder, bass-heavy material. Indeed, the Extra would be an affordable means of adding subtle analogue mojo to an otherwise clean-sounding chain. The BAX2020 is an impressive debut product from Pope Audio and is well worth auditioning.”
