On St. Maria Goretti's feast day, we consider modesty in dress. Taken from a pamphlet "Comments On a Christian Moral Code of Life" promulgated from www.miqcenter.com, herein lies the section 'On Modesty in Dress'.
"St Bernadine of Sienna teaches that the counsel of avoiding the occasions of sin is the best of all council, and as it were the foundation of religion." St Alphonsus Sunday sending, sermon 22, avoiding the near occasion of sin
It is interesting that the first comments on this video is to point to men having to be modest too. I don't think anyone disagrees with this. But it is an observable fact that women are the greater perpetrators against modesty of dress and to men modesty of eyes. Both men and women must do our part. Realize also that if men sin about their appearance it's more common because they don't think about their own appearance enough, whereas women are wired to think about it frequently and need extraordinary virtue to overcome this draw of dressing a certain way and feeling accepted and loved. As hard as it is for women to dress modestly it is at least that hard for Men to practice modest of eyes and thoughts. St Dominic Savio heroically gave himself migraines simply over controlling his eyes! This is no small feat and also requires extraordinary virtue to do!
Amish and mennonites dress modestly always. They are misguided in faith, but do dress modestly. Our Mennonite neighbors use our pool in the summer, and women swim in ankle length dresses.
It's also about propriety and aesthetics. A man who does not wear a tie tends to leave one or two top buttons open on his shirt. Though this has nothing to do with 'temptation' it is not pleasing to the eye and, thus, to the mind.
Pope Pius XI's Holy office clearly defined what is considered modest wear. In a nutshell- dress needs to be 2 in below knees, shirt no more than 2 in below clavicle, no more than 2 in from base of neck, and nothing transparent or tight. ....pretty simple....
@@JacquesMigne Yes and 2 inches don't seem enough as when a woman then sits usually the knees aren't covered especially in church. Remember dresses were fuller then. I remember as I am 77 and lived through all those years having a wonderful true Pope.
@@user-dj9uc2yc8d well 2 in is just the bare minimum to not be considered sinful and be refused communion. I think skirts like that look unbecoming and are not ladylike but they don't warrant being refused communion.
@@JacquesMigne Yes they should not be refused Communion as is the standard here at MSM but when they sit perhaps if they would observe at home the message they may send to others when attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with the tightness. We are going to adore and love God so we send a message to all that may observe us that we are before the holy of holies!
@@butterflybeatles ya that is certainly wrong too, Catholic family and others have mentioned men's modesty before. But you do realize that comparison is not there at all. Leaving a top button off and men daily seeing practically naked women is not even comparable.
@@JacquesMigne True. Because men are instantly attracted by what women project through their clothing. Do you like what Prime Minister of India wears? The shirt is not open at the top and he wears a skirt to cover the lower part of his body. I like it a lot.
@@butterflybeatles Tight jeans and even slacks are not decent but opening the top button of a shirt on a man is not indecent. At Mass the top button closed shows a sign of respect to the dignity of what's taking place....Holy Mass!
@@user-dj9uc2yc8d I'm tempting more men with a cute sun dress than with my casual jeans. Is the standard for modesty male attention? Because if yes then the standard of modesty changes with time depending on the men's taste...
