Back when BET had actual programming on their network. And this was the last season of the show. From Video Soul to Planet Groove and the golden era of 106 & Park (circa A.J. & Free).
Listen to her talk about SMW give me chills because That’s my favorite CD but I understand why she felt the way she did now..This brings back so many memories...I remember watching this.. love this woman so much ...MJB!!
Love this retrospective! Rachel is such an incredible interviewer. I love how both of these women present as powerful and intelligent as well as caring and supportive.
Carla Linton. I love My Black Hip Hop Soul Sista Mary J. Blige so much. She is so amazing and wonderful. Also she has such a beautiful and wonderful voice.
Piece of history right here.. The last episode of "Planet Groove" which was a very solid show.. Not as good as its predecessors such as "Video SOUL" and "Video LP". Rachel and Mary in the same room.. Is always a good look. I thought the original just for BET's " Love From LA" was Michael Colyer?. Then he was eventually replaced by John Salley. But I digress. Great interview, to end a pretty decent show.
Ummm I wonder who Mary J Blige was talking about when she said that she doesn't really like a lot of women in the industry---cough, cough, cough FAITH EVANS....I could recall that Punk daddy aka Sean Combs tried to replace Mary J Blige with Fake Evans aka Faith Evans.
DeeJay Fikes Mary is her fourth STUDIO album, but in albums total, it’s her fifth, her third album is SMW, before ‘Mary’ was her The Tour (SMW Tour) album, this was aired in either ‘99 or 2000
Mary often talks about how depressed she truly was back then. She mentions that she didn't like doing interviews. She often says that she didn't love herself and was still dealing with a lot of pain from the past but tried to mask it. She was guarded and protective of herself, which is what growing up in rough environments and being abused as a child will do to a person.
