Best novel I've ever read and best adaptation of a novel into a movie. No way it could have been done without a mini series. It could not have possibly been condensed into two hours.

I don't know how Dianne was able to portray that part (in the clip) with such emotion and they way she looked, she nailed it! It truly shows what a great actress she really is.

I still can't get over just how rich and textured this FILM (I refuse to call it a mini series) was and still is. I have lent both the book and film to at least 20 friends and not a one was not knocked out by it. Literally everything works. It truly needed to be on tv because without it's length it would not have worked. It furthered established Duvall as Titan of an actor and turned Tommy Lee Jones onto a bona fide star. Gus and Woodrow are the ultimate buddy team

The series Lonesome dove was [in my estimation ]a fairly accurate portrayal of what it was like to be a Texas Ranger during that time.One single Texas Ranger could stop a riot singlehandedly.Also the scene where Gus slit his horses throat and used the carcass as a defensive wall was based on a true life event.

Greatest Western of All Time,,, Only Match or Competition Is "Gunsmoke" With James Arness... But Gunsmoke Was Completely Different, Comedy, Action, True Story, All Mixed Up... Lonesome Dove Was a Complete "Saga"... Suzanne de Passe, Her Insight on The "Pigs",,, Priceless... Margo Martindale aka Buffalo Heiffer ,,, Priceless... If One Frame of This Movie Had Been Changed,,, Maybe The Essence of The Whole Movie Would of Been Lost... Bobby Duvall and Tommy Lee,,, Priceless...

LD such a epic movie , the characters just drew one into the movie and scenes . It was like you were there back in that era living it as a bystander. A movie has not ever grabbed me like LD did and I've seen a lot of movies but I love Western movies. I'm glad I was alive to have seen this movie . The best ever movie made . I'll rank LD up there with the movies of the likes of the Ten commandments, To kill a mockingbird, Gone with the wind etc etc .

Too, too bad, that the sound engineering sucked. It would have been a pleasure, instead of a strain. The substances is engrossing. But, cannot be heard well. Sad that someone didn’t pay attention and take the time to set the recording at a proper level. Sad and disrespectful of the woman and the substance of their feeling s and experience and knowledge.

My husband and I love Lonesome Dove and we have watched it once a yr since it's been around. We love all the characters in the movie, thought the actors were perfect for their role, EXCEPT Angelica Huston, she just appeared to be acting instead of being the character she was playing, to me she just didn't fit the character. Does anyone else have an opinion about this?
@amberlilly4101
@amberlilly4101 6 лет назад
I wish I knew, I've thought about it many times but we don't really keep up with actors much and I don't know who was popular at that time. They were lucky that the actors they got were available for these parts. I would love to here if anybody else could think of a substitute for Clara's role. It really doesn't matter it's a done deal. It was great anyway!
@dobypilgrim6160
@dobypilgrim6160 6 лет назад
Huston was just fine to me. Remember what her character had been 30 years before when Call had loved her. She fit. Just my opinion.
@amberlilly4101
@amberlilly4101 6 лет назад
Dobie thanks for your input. I guess I'm being too critical about her and it wasn't really about the way she looked, although, she did tower over Gus. Anyway, it was more about her acting for this part. She seemed to be trying too hard to fit her role and it just didn't come off very natural. The other actors seemed to literally be that character they were playing. She is a good actress and has been in a many other things that seemed to suit her. It doesn't really matter the whole film was phenomenal, it is our all time favorite.
