This was a tough book to get through but I'm glad I did. If you are interested in a brilliant poet and philosopher's attempt to describe the central problem of freedom and unity within man and society, than this might be up your alley. Thanks for watching!

I agree to learn about things that go beyond our comfort zone is how we become less narrow minded. Sometimes we need to release or give our control some slack and explore boundaries at a non physical level to free our minds and souls so that we can be free. Often times it is our body that keeps us slaves. When we enter a happy playful mode that also makes people around us happier. One cannot spread happiness unless they can first find that inner happiness within themselves. Some humans are good at this and even during times of war or unsettling times they can still find a ray of hope and happiness to share with others.

I love Schiller. He was super helpful when I was writing an essay on Frankenstein and needed to articulate the difference between fractious and unitary identity. His ideas about beauty itself being a kind of self-evident, unifying meaning for the divided soul of man is brilliant. “Why do we laugh when we see a man slip and fall on the ice? Because for a moment we are viewing spirit as if it were only matter, which is absurd.” Paraphrasing Henri Bergson there, whom I think Schiller would’ve appreciated. Great review as always sir!

I came across this video while studying for a part of my exam, and I had to stop right on this video, for the way, such a close philosophy is explained with so much simplicity. Your videos have such a positive aura. Thank you for creating this channel.

I appreciate your candor in describing the ideas. I’m researching Schiller and others on play right now. This was particularly interesting in the connections to Jung and Kant. I have the personality types volume on my shelf - so I was happy to learn that he had written on Schiller. I need to find out more about the connection to Kant as well. Play is tough to research since it’s not always called by that name. I like the idea of it as a term for the harmony of the other faculties (in Plato’s tripartite soul, for example.. that would make the driver of the two horses akin to Schiller’s play impulse, which is interesting). Anyway, thanks for posting the video!

I am so happy to hear that there are others out there that are interested in this topic as well! I think you'll find Jung's comments quite interesting, at least I did. I have yet to read Kant (sorta intimidated) but I'll get around to him one of these days. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
