As someone who has lived through every single day of this war, I must say this report only scratches the surface of the horrors inflicted by the RSF. It fails to mention the widespread looting and the horrific rapes, which stand as some of the worst in Africa's history. A 13-minute report simply cannot do justice to the immense suffering the Sudanese people have endured at the hands of the RSF. The world needs to know the full extent of these atrocities.

I believe the Sudanese Arabs and Arabized native Africans did the same exact things to their own countrymen for over 20+ years, but they were treated farrr worse because the other people were the native African tribes of the whole entire West of Sudan in Darfur. And the Janja Arab general (now RSF) was paid by the government, by the former President dictator, as well as there were Sudanese government soldiers assisting the Janja Arabs to do full ethn1c cl3ansing of the native Sudanese African tribes: the Darfurians, such as Fur tribe, Zaghawa, and Masalit, etc., people who aren't Arabs like the Janjas, that was the Darfur War. The Janja Arabs have 20+ years of experience doing these sorts of things in the previous Darfur War, and they also have battle experience from fighting in Yemen and Libya fighting for the UAE. So, the Sudanese Janja Arabs, who is now the powerful and quite wealthy RSF due to the gold mines they control, and the RSF buys all sorts of weapons and ammo, trucks like Land Cruisers, whatever else coming straight from the UAE with the gold they mine because the Arabs in the UAE love gold. Say, in Dubai, there are countless dozens of gold shops like in Gold Souk, plenty of massive 22k gold jewelry that can even cover the whole chest for their wives, even the supercars and luxury vehicles are gold plated, basically the whole entire shop is yellow gold, gold jewelry everywhere, they really love their gold. The UAE really has no problem arming the RSF, and they're both Arabs.

Good piece, but two main points left out, 1st is that its not just a civil war between 2 power hungry generals, the nuance is that the RSF and their UAE backers tried to sieze rule with a coup which failed. 2nd the Army restricts Aid because the UAE literally sent weapons and ammo to the RSF militia in Aid boxes, wsj themselves reported on that. Google wsj UAE Sudan. Third is as you can see all the people are much safer in the Army controlled areas, as for all its shortcomings it doesn’t target civilians like the RSF deliberately does.

As South Sudanese🇸🇸, I know exactly what the Sudanese war is about, but it’s also difficult to explain to outsiders but I’ll do my best. Sudan is a country that has wars within. In 1889, it was under British colonialism, just as other nations as the time but Arab merchants, who were working for the British and later worked with the British, by favoritism over black Nubians and Nilotic Africans, reasons; racially, and their skills as they could served the British. On the other hand, the Indigenous peoples’ skills were that of hunting and made homes of huts. The Indigenous people also opposed to British occupying their lands. While all these factors were taken place, the British had missionaries in the South of the country to educate them about Christianity , had challenged their Animism spiritual beliefs/practices. While in the North, Arabs were rapidly spreading the Islam ☪️ religion by utilizing forcefully converting, by using Sharia law against the those who resisted, amputating rights and left legs, mostly men. And women were subjected to Female circumcision practices. Mostly Southern became Christians, Catholicism and Episcopalian. I am a proud Christian, I would choose Christianity any day over all Juju’s practices, it’s my personal belief/sentiment. Forward to 1955, British grand Sudan to be independent. British were well aware there were going to be turmoil in Sudan between the North and South because of their many differences; culturally, economically, racially and religiously. British then granted the Southerners the Autonomy to govern themselves in the Southern areas. Immediately, after colonization ended, Northerners(Muslims) and Southerners(Christians), keep in mind, after Arabs converted Black Nubians, they began intermarriages with each other. So now you have Arabs: middle eastern look alike, light skin (mixed race) and black Nubians who identified as Arabs because they are Muslims. All the Muslims in Sudan identify themselves as Arabs and declared wars on those who identified as Africans/Black and Christians. They did it brutally , by using the most their most darkest skin complexion Muslims, who has self-hatred internalized ideologies towards my Beautiful, very dark and tall people and who had and always identify themselves as Black African people, even with our Christianity ✝️ religion. We fought with the Arabs/Muslims in Sudan for decades and lost over 4 million lives and our have achieved more our independence, the Nation, Republic of South Sudan🇸🇸. Now they have turned against their Dark skin Muslims/Arabs’ brothers and sisters. Those two guys are using the same ideology that were used on Southerners, great to everyone, that is what I can provide as of today🙏✝️❤️

Thank you for your valuable perspective my brother. I am Coptic Christian from Egypt and found it very enlightening. It is so sad that there is an element of this to do with the forced arabisation of a group of people, and their subsequent hatred of others who do have not been Arabised. This and religious differences is undoubtedly what motivated their geonocidal tendencies. But where these people to read their history, they would know many of them had nubian ancestors who had independent kingdoms like Nobatia and Markuria that fought off Arab Muslim enroachment for centuries. I don't even see myself as Arab but Arabised because my ancestors lost their native tongue and culture. I look forward to the days where we can be proud of our African heritage and Christian faith. Or Arab heritage and Islamic faith. But sit together as brothers again. Wishing you peace and prosperity ✌🏽

As a Kenyan you have helped me understand what is going on in Sudan. In short our own people are killing each other because of Islam, Christianity and Arabization. Initially black Africans who had converted to Islam were used to fight those who had been converted to Christianity. Then after the South Sudan was split from Sudan then the war took the turn of the Arabized African muslims versus African Muslims. President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere of Tanzania warned about this kind of division and hatred. I wish all Africans can do away with colonial religions of Islam and Christianity and just revert back to our own African spirituality.

The war began in 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led respectively by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Hemediti. The war began as a revolt of several reasons however the main factor was a disagreement over democratic reforms in the country following the overthrow of Sudans Head of State Omar al-Bashir in 2019, a transitional council was formed to oversee the creation of a democratic state in Sudan with an interim government led by Abdalla Hamdok however n October 2021 the SAF alongside the RSF undertook a coup leading Abdel Fattah and Hemedti to be leaders and stopping any transition to democracy. There was tensions between the two leaders as Fattah continued to appoint more government officials. Than in April 2023, the RSF began attacking SAF bases across the country starting the war. They are not fighting for democracy at this point but rather power. The conflict has spread across the entirety of Sudan including in Darfur. The UNHRC has condemned the increase in violence and worked with leaders to negotiate a temporary ceasefire which largely failed. The Pope and Vatican has called an end to the war. Muslim leaders are split Egypt has backed the SAF sending fighter aircraft and Special Forces, the UAE has supplied weapons and money to the RSF. The Russian backed Wagner group has supplied RSF forces with SAMs and fought alongside the RSF however in 2024, the Russian government officially restarted diplomatic ties with the SAF. Chad and Libya has been accused of supporting the RSF. Ukraine has sent special forces targeting Wagner forces in the country and instructing SAF on the use of FPV drones. Iran has sent weapons to the RSF including mortars and drones. The EU, US and UK have called for negotiations and an end to the war, sanctioned the RSF for war crimes as well as give over $1.9 billion in aid to humanitarian organisations working in the region including UNICEF, Red Cross & Red Crescent. Currently over 15,000 civilians are estimated to have died, as well as mass cases of sexual violence committed by the RSF in the Darfur region and 27 million civilians are on the verge of famine.

The war erupted once the RSF started encircling the capital and almost every single military fort and proceeded to take over the Meroe airport and focus control on almost every single resource mining deposit. A country without a army is a country without protectors, it is imperative that the national armed forces (SAF) must prevail and restore stability thwarting the advances of these insurgent forces.

The result of 1,400 years of Arab Muslim genocidal settler colonialism in Sudan specifically/north Africa in general. The indigenous Sudanese, who are Nubians, example the Masalit and Fur ethnic groups, have been pushed west into Darfur over the last thousand years and are now being wiped out there too or pushed into Chad, South Sudan, etc. The Arab-Muslim militias conducting this genocide against non-Arab indigenous groups should be receiving way more attention.

The RSF needs to be stopped by the militaries of the international community. And their health services and food services need support! This is unacceptable that we are allowing this to happen. Sudan has a government, even if Burhan should go as soon as the war is over. This is not Afghanistan, there is only one side stopping peace in Sudan and committing crimes against humanity and thats Hemedti's RSF. This is not some both sides interminable conflict.

This is a good report because it gives the chance to learn by seeing recent war effects and impact on the area and its citizens by military conflict. On the other hand, there are always reports like this during conflicts and crisis, what makes it different and improving? Example, how can this short report make most use of its time to enable effective humanitarian support where it goes (ex. children's hospital)? Rather than a mere advertiser or co-facilitator of status quo? But allows for value-added reporting service, where the reporter and news brand does not stop at being an observer and co-facilitator of the present news, but seeks to set an example of making their time count wherever they have already has passed, albeit in a small way as a information worker. For example, WSJ can be more effective during these reports of conflicts by reporting more about the 'resource mismatch' (ex. Unicef to children's hospital), to also increase transparency and accountability measures.A central issue during conflicts that is rarely reported enough.
