Do they have African American reenactors? I remember getting to dress in a full union soldier regalia back in 4th grade and was hooked ever since
@paooul_dixon
@paooul_dixon 6 лет назад
I've seen black reenactors fighting on both sides. There's some black specific units in the Union army as well. It really depends on where you live. If you're in the South there's more Confederate units, and more Union units in the North. Look online for any local units and give them a call. We reenactors take anyone regardless of race and skin color that has a passion for history.

At most reenactments we hardly get payed at all, my unit plans on going to Gettysburg this summer and we arent getting payed in money, the closest thing we are getting to pay is the rations they give us.

You don't get paid as a reenactor, Sure there are some places like Fort Henry that hires people to do demonstrations in the summer and such but that isn't really the same as reenacting. Reenacting is just a hobby which you have to pay for equipment, travel, food etc.

Did this for twenty years, loved every moment of it, it's learning, teaching and experience something you can't just get from reading a book. Comradery is great, experiencing what the soldier did in the 1860's without actually dying. I didn't regret any moments of it ever and I hope the hobby never dies off. Kids can learn so much from this!

I hope all the confederate flag hysteria doesn't affect the reenactors, because they present living history with no bias. If there is anyplace the flag belongs, its with these dedicated historians. Footnote: It would be a wonderful acknowledgement if the Federal Government would stipend each reenactor a few hundred dollars a year to help with their costs of maintaining this important historical pageant.

@@ghaffarkhan5662 sounds like you may be interested in participating! Yes, you do talk in period ways with a backstory you make up, when on the battlefield, drilling, or in camp. When you are just with your mates in your regiment, you can dual just relax and talk with them. It’s almost always Civil War related of course, but may be about other re-enactments, movies or each other’s families. When other men from different it’s or any spectators come to us or we go to them - we are sure to switch into character.
