Correction to my comment in the video about this Pete maybe being a 362H … there is no “362H” only a 352H that was developed as an interim model between the 352 and the 362 platform when the truck sales weren’t supporting the costs of full development of the 362. The 352H was built for the bigger engines and cooling needs of the large Cats like the 3408, Detroit 8v92 and the KT Cummins. The 1st 352H was built as a '76 model year - last in 1980. The build numbers for the 352H and the 352 are merged together. 352H stands 4 inches taller than 352, the cosmetic differences being the cab panels below the headlamps, wider step pockets, lower mounted turn signals, taller grille and unique bumper (center mounted fog lamps vs. wide spread on 352). 352H required a unique cab tilting system, a wider doghouse and a 1510 square inch radiator. If you have a 352H that you don’t want anymore, please let me know 😉
The 352H was developed in the mid-70’s expressly to fit the Cummins K-series engines and Caterpillar 3408, and facilitate the much larger radiator required to keep them cool. Everything learned from the 352H went into the design of the succeeding 362…wouldn’t necessarily call the 352H an “interim model”.
I've got both and it has been good so far with the Mack MDrive automatic and 505 hp mp8 same thing as the D13 Volvo and I shift from what I've read I was scared of the Def system but so far it's good at 96000 miles and about a year of driving it .
Awesome Twinsticks , all your videos are great and really like the on the hunt ! The cab over Pete coming to Nova Scotia, I’ll keep an eye out for it , east to spot that one . The new intro is really good 👍, what a way to spend a day ! Truck auction! Keep er up Twinsticks! 👍🇨🇦
I know you don't like Automatic trucks but believe me they have there place. I am a truck driver that now has a disability with my left leg and cant do the gear jamming no more. My boss went out and got me an automatic so I can still do my trucking
really enjoy ur videos like the fact u do it yourself I learn something new each video can't wait till the tribute truck gets finished as well as little by little and iron duke!!
Hi twin sticks ! , greetings from the UK I know an auto isn’t a “man’s “ transmission but there is a good argument for they’re increasing popularity They reduce wear through operator error and are more fuel efficient through in theory being in the correct gear at all times , Here in the uk where diesel is $7.90 a us gallon ,95% of all new semi trucks are automatic , they’re so advanced they use gps to even know where hills are and correct engine output accordingly !! , The Volvo unit you showed with I shift is regarded as one of the best available along with scanias opti cruise But I look forward to getting back to the USA a playing with a 13 eaton again !!
Some really nice trucks in that lot, with regard to the Volvos, they use the exact same dash in the FM12 Cabovers here in the UK, Thanks again for a great video
The Volvo Automatics aren’t bad my buddy drives a 2021 Volvo and the 12spd automatic isn’t bad in his truck. It doesn’t jump like in the Kenworth’s or Peterbilt with the Eaton Ultrashift transmissions they have a tendency to jump. I rather have a manual myself at the end of the day.
Love this channel. I don’t have a CDL and have no business owning a Semi but I find myself checking online for used truck in the area. Just in case I need one, hahahah.
its a fine line with the wheel bases on cab overs. Some people stretch them out and they look horrific, but too short does look funny. I'm some what used to seeing them short being from Australia I guess.
Mark you might want to reconsider putting 7 inch stove pipes on the iron duke I have them on my 389 and I ABSOLUTELY HATE THEM every day when you crank it up it blows black sut all over you your truck and everything else I even put flappers on and drilled a hole in the bottom to drain any water out. Will NEVER PUT STOVE PIPES ON ANYTHING ELSE
Hello 👋. That looked very cold .. 🥶. Loved seeing All them trucks... when will you bid on one? .... any luck with parts for iron Duke.. any chance of a meet up with peterbilt Mike in the future.. now that would be Cool
@@TwinStix dude..... you acted like a DEF tank kicked in your door ...kissed your wife and peed in your maple syrup And I wanted to mention about the autos I don't like it either but sadly most guys didn't have a understanding mentor to teach them stick...... I love trucks ...but I was poor... And if I messed up a Eaton .....I'm in debtors prison So don't be so hard
Although I agree with you on the automatic trucks, since loosing my left leg below the knee 3 years ago having one at work has been decent. I can still drive the standard trucks, but my previous prosthesis was not easily adjustable. So activating the clutch brake was a problem. The one I currently use is easily adjustable so with a truck that has an easy clutch it works pretty good, but a stiff clutch is still a pain, literally. So I agreed hard no! But reality is sometimes we need to accept the things we rather not.
Yeah they have their place but I’m just worried they’re going to be completely phased out just like they were for pickups and sports cars and just be a distant memory from the past 😕
@@TwinStix they will be a memory from the past the road ranger disappeared from trucks in Europe in the late eighties , you can’t buy a truck in Europe now with a manual transmission and as much as I hate autos you just have too get used to them
While I get the macho put downs of the Volvo gearbox I have to tell you that over too many years I drove Scania, Volvo, MAN and other makes all over Europe and fought their various manual gearboxes over Alps and Pyrenees. The Roadranger was OK but I still hate the Eaton Twin Splitter with a vengeance. But that Volvo 'automatic' is just about the best gearbox you could wish to have underneath you. You can shift it like a manual or leave it to do its thing. The clever part is it 'learns' how you drive and adapts shifts. Drove my last 6 years before retirement on Volvo FH12s and the Volvo built Renault all with that gearbox. It never let me down and they were easy years to end up on.
@@TwinStix We had the same attitude when the Volvo and Scania synchromesh gearboxes first arrived. They were all classed as 'pussy' and not what a 'real driver' would drive. I liked them. ZF did a really nice synchro box although its range change could drop you into a neutral. The other thing is the 'automatic' gearboxes these days are so good they improve fuel consumption by a big margin and why fleet owners want them. Not sure what manual gearbox lovers will do when its all electric!
@@1chish when we went Volvo FH’s in 2004 I asked the head of fleet why he picked the ishift , simple answer was Volvo will warranty one manual box , but the ishift had a fix it as many times as breaks for free
@@ianmunslow5675 That is how manufacturers 'persuade' buyers to buy what they want them to buy! Scanias had an oddball design at first where you had to use a clutch to start off and stop but then it was automatic. Later versions had no clutch pedal. Well we say automatic but in fact the Volvo and Scania boxes are manual boxes with the shift , range and splitters driven by ECU controlled air valves. Got to love technology!
@@1chish yes they were all manual gearboxes driven by high tech gubbins we went from Volvos to the two pedal opticruise scanias not a bad box on daf superspace cabs now and that’s a pretty decent box if you drive it manual , although my all time favourite was the 16 speed ZF
The Kenworths are the same way, I've seen W900As with modern daylight doors. Probably makes more sense on the Pete's though because IMO cab mounted mirrors are way better.
I shift is the best auto box in the world mark so if I had to have a auto it would be I shift the d13 is OK prefer the fh16 D16 750hp engine though but your right can't beat a manual
Would you believe that some people take the clean idle stickers off of trucks? I have also seen on some of our trailers where some one has peeled of the state inspection sticker.
It's an ugly sticker smack dab in the middle of a nice paint job so I took one off. It's not like it makes the truck idle dirty, and does it really matter if you aren't driving in Cali? Peeling an inspection sticker on a trailer seems kinda dumb though.
@@averyw.3939I drive for a fleet and none of our drivers take them off because they are unsightly. I think people who don't have carb compliant trucks take them and think that the DOT will give them a pass. At drop lots other company drivers take of the inspection stickers because theirs is expired.
@@bobme2787 The sticker, at least the one on that truck, was designed to destroy itself if you took it off, even if you managed to get it to stick again it exposed repeated “void” lettering, definitely wouldn’t sneak that by any DOT guys. This truck is more of a show truck, I wouldn’t bother to take one off a fleet truck.
@@averyw.3939 I believe the destroy part of the sticker but the person thinking that they are getting away with something does not realize that there is a void symbol and it is almost impossible to reuse the sticker.
You need to find a less expensive, less time consuming hobby. Like sitting around in your shop drinking beer, and admiring your trucks, listening to Waylon Jennings on your 8 track player.
