On the Right Track is a 1981 American comedy film that was the first feature film starring Gary Coleman. It was directed by Lee Philips, produced by Ronald Jacobs, and released to theaters by 20th Century Fox in the spring of 1981.
Gary Coleman stars as a homeless shoeshine boy named Lester who is living in a locker at Union Station, Chicago. Already a beloved figure among the staff at the station who look after him, and suffering attempts to move him to an orphanage, he finds great popularity after it is revealed that he has an amazing talent for picking winning horses at the racetrack. -Wikipedia

I forgot Gary Coleman passed away in 2010. I did some online research on him and I understand he was short, only 4’8”-WOW-he was even shorter than my mom was(she too is deceased, she was about 5’3” or so.) And yes, may he RIP.

Gary Coleman was the biggest child star of his era bar none. He was my favorite actor growing up. I saw all of his theater movies, tv movies, tv specials-guest appearances, his Saturday Morning cartoon and Diff'rent Strokes...

This was the FIRST EVER movie I watched on cable tv, HBO I think, at the uncles house. I was so excited, because my family hardly ever went to the movies. It was too expensive for us, and they worked a lot. So i was shocked when this came on because it was still playing in some local theaters or was just recently pulled. We also watched The Lone Ranger later that day, and some Caveman movie that starred Ringo Starr. Even though it was a barbecue and all the cousins were outside playing, I spent that entire day in my aunties bedroom trying to watch as many movies as possible!!

I was just scrolling and found this in my feed. I said "Hmmm let me try this!" Gary Coleman was on commercials, TV show Different Strokes and other movies when I was growing up. I was 6 yrs old in 81. I watched the entire movie and I enjoyed it 😊. Thank you!

Enjoyed seeing this again for literally the first time in FORTY years since it was first released; I remember my brother and I went to see it in the theater summer 1981. I was twelve and my brother was ten going on eleven; now of course I’m 52 and my brother is going on 51. His time flies. Touching but happy ending, with Frank and Jill deciding to adopt Lester after all. :)

I can not watch anymore of Gary's movies. Its devastating knowing how badly treated he was by the industry and his parents/guardians. How hard they've worked him in life, not giving sufficient breaks, even when he was very sick and stealing his entire income, leaving him nothing to survive on in adulthood. He never really knew nothing much about his own race, being completely surrounded constantly by the Caucasian race in life. What a complete disservice everyone with connection to Gary, turning a blind eye to the truth of his situation. Every movie they joked on his height, every single movie and show...How much can a person take??

Sis I am grateful as always for your uncanny ability to put out African American film that was and still not white Hollywood mainstream "Black films" It immensely adds to the nas collection I am compiling for my children, grand"s and great grand's. Sort of a poor man's movie studio as well as teach them how to care and keep available. We desperately need our own media outlets and you are providing a sorely missed source. Even some of our "so-called " Black media seems to ignore many of the priceless films that Spenser Williams and Oscar Micheaux and others who followed them and show "Hollywood" accepted "Black Media" AKA "Money movies". My mom told me she was an extra in this film. She told me that she arrived downtown early for work one day and the person who was in charge of the extras saw her and liked how she was dressed that day. They asked if they could get some shots of her and a few other people walking up and down the street and she agreed. I don't see her in here, so I'm guessing her footage ended up on the cutting room floor. But it's cool to know she worked on this. :-)

This was a classic funny old school flick im suprised i never seen it before now i was born in 1977 but dont ever remember running across this flick. But when i seen all the great people in the cast i knew i needed to see it. Im sure glad i watched it this was a great early 80s show it was funny and had just the right amount of heart to it. A real feel good fun movie one that anyone could watch and enjoy without being offended if your one that does not like offensive language or violence or nudity it does not bug me but if your one that it does none of that here just feel good fun. Left me with a big smile. So thanks alot for the upload i plan on watching this again i really enjoyed it. Look like there is some other good stuff here on this channel ill check out dont know most of it maybe thats cause im a white dude from idaho but looks good to me i plan on watching more.

GARY ALWAYS HAD TO PLAY CHILD ROLLS, BUT HE WAS A MAN WHO HAD A HORRIBLE DISEASE. IT STOPPED HIM FROM GROWING HE HAD SO MANY DISEASES AND HE DIED IN A DARN SMALL COFFIN. Sometimes comedy is a good way to tackle all these heavy subjects at once... but watching these movie some of the explicit jokes made me so uncomfortable for the kid that Gary Coleman was at the time, too much to deal. If I were his parent or even sibling at the time, not sure I;d be ok with those lines :/

I hated Frank. Nothing but an opportunist. This movie is too close to what happened to Gary in his brief life. He was taken advantage of by those who claimed to care about him. When he stopped being profitable, Hollywood threw him away. His "parents" took his money. His "wife" made him miserable. Was there anyone who truly cared? Aside from Todd Bridges and Conrad Bain? Anyone?

I am not even sure, Todd or Conrad took really care of this poor Gary. It seems like Bain took more care of Bridges, and on the Diff'rent Strokes, there were some bad things that happened between Todd & Gary... What is very upsetting me in the movie is the fact, you have a lot of echos to pedophilia and (moral) abusing: everything that (in fact) was about to happen to this poor kid in his real life since everyone took advantage of him! I don't want to fall into conspiracy, but... this movie left me a bad feeling!

Both Gary's parents and surroundings include one of his "friend" Dion MIAL (or something like that) abused him! See the last testimony of Gary before his death: he didn't want to have to do with people "who took [financially] advantage of him"! This movie, nowadays, is just insane cause every single detail sounds like an echo to his real life! R.I.P. Gary!

Carrie Mtsh , Gary did make lots of money during his years as a child but unfortunately his "parents" took all of his money as they were in control of his finances until he reached adulthood....I think I remember reading that he took them to court , can`t remember what the outcome was . Also hollywood was not kind to Gary after he grew up. He eventually had to get a regular 9 to 5 job to make a living. When he finally got married I was really happy for him but the next thing I knew , he was gone. A great talent he was but he was used his whole life .

Part of me wants to laugh at the precocious humor, but spending too much time in the "conspiracy theory"/pizzagate section of YT is pointing out so much in the first ten minutes of this movie: a homeless kid sleeping in a locker, a half-naked homeless kid walking around in a bath towel with a random adult, a homeless kid talking about "sex without the fun" to another random adult and yet again, a vulnerable homeless kid having a brief discussion about rape with another random adult...if I had watched this as a kid it would have all gone over my head....let's see how much of this comedy I can enjoy without the cringey undertones of ( ) blatantly played out in plain site....13:58 (nuff said). not cute.
